    Unplug everything except fridge. And only plug in when needed that might help.

    Girl, you need to get rid of some of that non-essential expending and you will be able to pay your mom off and save more to build wealth.

  • @trnigyul
    @trnigyul 4 ปีที่แล้ว +78

    It seems that you priorities are off imo; your baby and hair gets the same amount recurring? You owe your mom thousands but only manage $20 a paycheck while saving $15 for a nose job? At that rate its gonna take a decade to pay her off. Your xmas gifts is $25 (more than you pay your mom), is it that important to purchase presents for others at that amount when you're clearly barely scraping by? Your rent is quite disproportionate to your income also. It doesn't make sense to me, but it seems to be working out for you so more power to you.

    • @kim1981D

      She gets to good pay checks each month so the rent is only about 25% of her wage. Also her mum probably wouldn’t mind waiting for the money most parents would rather you take care of your own stuff and pay them little and often rather than go without. That’s what being a parent is about! Also does it matter what she is saving for as long as her baby is being taking cares of what does it matter!

    Tip for electricity
    • shut off all lights when your not in that room
    •Dont use base board or wall heaters •plug in small heaters and each room only turn them on when in that room. •Also unplug all cords from wall and etc when sleeping or not using that device.
    •Close all doors to rooms and help block of the room so the heater is only heat that specific room.
    My mom is in real estate and my dad is a contractor so baseboard heaters and wall heater suck so much power and it's no much cheaper to use the small plug in heater.

    About the electricity, I've heard sometimes you can call the utility company and they will send someone out to check and see what is going on if your bill and your usage don't add up. Some people also buy something like a Kill A WATT usage monitor to figure out how much each appliance takes up. Plugged in appliances will even suck energy when they aren't in use, so if you have time or motivation you can unplug them and that will save you some extra money.

    • @budgiebug8097
      @budgiebug8097  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I’ll look into that device. I’m definitely going to call my electric company out though, maybe they’ll find something that I didn’t see. Thank you 😊

      Your windows and doors might also have seals that are letting cold air in making your heater have to work harder and thus making your electric go up.

    I don't get how everyone is saying that her method is so great. She doesn't factor long-term savings in (only leftover cash, which is close to nothing). You should save 10% of your income.
    Also at this rate her paying back her mom is going to take her over 10 years. She will get her nose job in about 20 years. And that is not even taking into acount, that her budget is going to change a lot with a child costing a lot.

    To lower my electricity bill, I flip the switch in the breaker box off as soon as I get up for work. When I get home I flip it back on. I'm in Texas so it does get really hot, but when I do this my electricity is around $40-$50!

    1.Cut Cable and get the fire stick. There is a video on TH-cam that shows how to watch TV and movies for free.
    2. Use the sun/windows to warm your home, open shades if possible. In the summer use shades that block out light and also use a fan.
    3. Put the heat at 65-67 and wear warmer clothes.
    4. Unplug everything except for major appliances.
    5. Replace all light bulbs with Energy efficient light bulbs. Use LED lights if possible.
    6. Check all major appliances to insure they are working well. Change dryer filter every time so it drys the first time.
    7. Hang dry clothes or hand wash dishes.
    8. Make sure your AC filter is clean, replace filter as direction states. More expensive filter last for 3 months.
    9. Use the sun for lights and keep the lights off as much as possible. Turn lights off if you are not in the room.
    10. Keep interior doors open for Energy efficient airflow
    Hope this helps🤞🏽

    We found out last month we had a gas leak on our dryer gas pipe for 3months. Only reason we didn't smell is because it was venting through a hole on the vent leading outside. But I was catching headaches everytime I was in the laundry room. I had our utility company come out because the bill didnt look right to me for the winter time. I should be back to normal now in March

    I live in Paris and if I had that paycheck, with how I'm leaving now i would be rich.
    1050 for rent, depends on where she's living I guess. Here 42m² 2 roomn kitchen, bath with toilette is around 1200.
    134 for electricity? I pay 40euros for a shared flat of 2
    114 for internet? 25euros
    36 for water? its in the rent.
    We don't have sewage here, we pay for the trash and genral maintenance of the neighborhood via a yearly taxe that depends on where you live. So far its always been around 150euros for me so less than 15 a month.
    Well for the rest I have no dog and I don't use Netflix or Itune.
    Lets add the flat insurance, transportation and my smartphone bill, 20euros, 75 euros and 10 euros.
    Lets convert 1944 into euros to be fair 1782 euros
    I would have 998 euros left to enjoy myself.
    Okay I might be missing some costs here and there, my insurance is taken care of by my employer but its around, 30 euros a month.

    I love how you budget per paycheck and have each bill lined out and know exactly how much money it will take from that specific paycheck. That is how I budget as well. The envelope seems like easy work, but it also seems like a lot of unnecessary work. That’s a lot of writing and moving money around. re: electricity
    make sure your company is charging you based on actual usage. my company has two options: to charge you based on what you actually use, or they look at the average use in the area, and divide the cost of the entire year so you pay a similar amount every month. this is supposed to help when you do have high usage months and then the bill won’t be atrocious. i think it’s called “levelized billing”. there is also budget billing but usually you have to be in the home for 12 months and then it would be the same amount every month. i would definitely check what you have. if you are taking precautions then your statement should reflect that. otherwise.. lots of good tips below 👇 good luck!!

    Split all your bills in half each month. It has changed the way I do budgeting. It takes a bit of effort to get started but is so worth it. The key to doing this is knowing all your due dates and initially figuring out which ones need to be fully funded and which you can do half for. Then your next paycheck you should be able to do half for all your bills. This can also help you get 1 month ahead since you'll have extra cash to put into saving for that 1 month ahead.

When you buy a house, I recommend a smart thermostat that you can program to be more efficient by programming temps when you are home versus away and also make adjustments during peak hours.

    Are your utilities all electric? If so make sure you turn off any nonessential electrical items. E.g. turn off you tv at night, unplug stereos. Get energy efficient light bulbs. Use natural light where ever possible. Get used to the heat in summer. Ditch the ac it’s bad for the environment anyway. Open windows. Get fans. And air dry your clothes instead of using the dryer.

    For everyone saying that her rent is too much... oh well. It may be too much but it also depends where she lives and the area. If she is paying her rent then good for her. Other than that for those commenting “your rent is too much for what you’re making”, uhh are you paying her bills? Let her be. Some things she’s saving for might not be essential to you. phantom energy is a real thing so only plug in things when you need it if you can. i genuinely only turn the lights on when i’m eating dinner and for a little while after so maybe 2 hrs and that’s still only one light. throughout the day i keep all lights off and open blinds for light. i also don’t run the ac, i’ll open windows for fresh cool air in the evening, have a fan on all day and night, and i sometimes turn on the ac for about 10 minutes to get cool air in and turn the fans on to keep it circulating and i live in az and it’s about 80 everyday lately and it’s really not that bad. my electric was $43 this past month but i do live in an apartment so i know it’s different

    could be insulation of your house/unit or the windows. Maybe doors are letting the colder air in so you heat has to work harder. Not sure where you live (also it's like 5 months later) but just turning the heat OFF and just letting the house be naturally cold, wear sweaters and such.

    I would contact the electric dept and ask them why your bill is so high, maybe they are charging you for other units or there needs to be some updated equipment or something.

    just asking because i am from the UK, you said something about two pay-cheques a month. Is that a thing in the US?
    Over here we only get paid once at the end of the month.

    • @budgiebug8097
      @budgiebug8097  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well it depends on what job you have. My job pays twice a month. Some people can get paid up to 3 times a month because they get paid every other Friday. Some even get paid every Friday. I wish it were as simple as the UK, I think budgeting one check for the entire month would be way easier to track.

      BudgieBug you’re right! I’ve gotten paid in many methods from all my high school and college jobs and career jobs and it really does vary. However I found monthly checks the hardest since it feels like forever until the next check.

    • @sweetzs100
      @sweetzs100 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Georgia Nicolaou Here in the U.S the most common time frame for pay is either 2 weeks or weekly pay. Every 2 weeks is pretty standard. Some jobs will even choose two specific days out of the month to pay you. My job pays every two weeks so there are some months where I may get paid more than just twice a month depending on when the first paycheck falls. Monthly pay sounds horrible. I can barely stand waiting two weeks for pay, I can’t imagine having to wait 4 weeks.

    • @budgiebug8097
      @budgiebug8097  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely! Budgets can be tailored to anyone’s pay. I’d say start off with the NEEDS...food, utilities, shelter and transportation. From there, anything left over use towards debts, other expenses and savings. This is how I do it personally, so just figure out what works best for you. The key is giving every dollar a place to be. You should be left with $0 at the end of the month. And by $0 I don’t mean spend it all. Utilize your savings goals.

    Re your electric - make sure you have a separate meter/aren't paying for multiple units. My apartment shares a meter with the unit next to me, and this wasn't mentioned in the lease or outright told to me by anyone appropriately (which is illegal) so I could imagine you turning on utilities for both units without knowing. My electric is around the same price as yours but it's split between the two of us so my cost is half.

    In the winter, we cellophane the windows to keep heat in, so it doesn’t escape throw the windows. We also roll old towels/blankets and put them up against the door (to keep the draft out). We’re lucky enough to have a fireplace to heat the house, I keep the thermostat at 62 degrees. When we were younger my mom would purposely cook in the oven on cold nights so the heat from the oven would help keep the house warm and the thermostat low!

    Unplugging appliances is a nice idea but it can get tiring after a while to bend down and try to reach the cord every time, I usually plug everything I can on a power strip that has a button. This way I can just step on the button when I want the appliance on and step on it again when I want it off. Also remember that some appliances have a double expense, for example the dishwasher doesn't use only water but also electricity (plus, the older the appliance, the bigger the energy dispersion, a class B fridge will consume more electricity than a class A++). I live alone so I barely use the dishwasher, but I still noticed it on my electricity bill that month when I really didn't want to handwash my dishes. Another thing is, if your country lets you, to self-read the energy meters, because often the bills are calculated on an "estimate" of how much you consume when it might be that it's lower. Of course, once every year, they'll actually read the meters and adjust your bill accordingly but if you self-read it's going to be more accurate and it would save you the headache when you get bills that are way pricier than what you'd expect.

    If you use a console for watching Netflix or Hulu or things at night, see if you cannot eventually switch to a smart TV or Chrome Cast from your phone which is already plugged in for the night. We switched over to a smart TV from using our xBox to watch Hulu in the evening and that made a weirdly significant difference in our electricity.

    If your bill is unusually high despite you making energy saving efforts there may be an issue with it! Try calling the company to see if you can get someone to come check and see what’s using power the most. Get you HVAC system checked especially! Unchanged filters, leaking, old parts can cause huge unnecessary energy usage. My bill just went down like crazy after my apartment had to replace multiple a/c parts.

  • @katem1105
    @katem1105 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Change your light bulbs to LED. Check to see how old your fridge is. If it is older than 10 year , it could be a energy waster. If you have a clothes waster use cold only. Do you keep your charging cables plunged 24/7. It does use energy.

    My electric company told me to turn down my heat to 66 degrees right before I head to bed then turn it back up to 68 degrees in the morning when I get up. If you work out of your home during the day you could probably turn the temperature back down to 66 degrees before you leave your home and turn it back up when you get home until bedtime. Try that.

    Find out when Non Peak hours are through your light company(helps when running washer,dryer,dishwasher...anything big) and do use these appliances during those hours....use energy efficient light bulbs...unplug anything your not using and plug things in that is necessary ...winter time on electric is always a bit higher but also running air conditioner on a brrrrr setting can also make it high... I’m sure you will figure out little shortcuts...hope this helps😊
