    As a contractor and having worked on a project at the Domino's Sugar plant here in Baltimore, I can tell you there is no difference in the sugar packaged in the Domino's bag and any of the others. All sugar in your area will come from the same plant regardless of the packaging. Save the money and buy the cheapest, it's the same sugar.

    Great way to spend a day with family and friends, would love to have been there! Everyone is having a good time hanging out to stir the pot and get their share, nice. Have wanted to get together for a community can-in but it doesn't happen where we are. I could try to make it happen but best if I plant the seed with someone else, lol. Absolutley love the kettle and stand, thanks for showing us how to!

    I remember making apple butter a few times in my life but we didn't start working sauce... We started; picking the apples, peeling them for days before they ever went into the pot. It's a lot of hard work but great get together.

    I have been making apple butter for many years. Real apple butter does not require sugar and uses cider as a sweetner. Historically, in the 19th and 18th centuries, sugar was very expensive and not used in traditional recipes.

    • @jeffkimble8857
      @jeffkimble8857 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a ridiculous comment. Define real. Using a different method or recipe does not relegate something to not being real. We used to fight fire with buckets of water. So now that we use a hose it’s no longer real? Using cider to start your apple butter only increases the cook time. Cider is no sweeter than the apples it was made from unless it was sweetened with sugar or corn syrup. I’ve been making apple butter for almost 50 years and never once put a drop of cider in it.

      I agree. Also, I have seen that many people add the red hots, but it contains red dye #40. I just read that is not legal in 86 countries, as it is a carcinogen. Not trying to be Debbie downer, but added sugar and red dye, not a good combo:/. I am however very impressed with their achievement and team work.

    So just curious why you use red hots instead of just more cinnamon. For the color? I never cared for using candy in mine as it adds wax and artificial dyes. We just use cinnamon oil
    And we also add allspice into ours.

    You're using about 1/3 of the sugar we use in our recipe which is 4 lbs per gallon...😳 We also start finalizing with a cup of cider vinegar per 8 gallons and pulling the heat down a little about 10 mins before the cinnamon and dip off.
