  • This almost century old film appears to show females patients demonstrating so-called regression, which Freud posited was a defensive mechanism where the ego reverted to an earlier stage.

    You need to appreciate the times we live in. The medicine and the treatments have gone through many revisions.
    People once died just having the "common" cold.

    I don't believe that it would be legal today to make films of this nature and show them. But my need to know everything makes me thankful for the heartbreaking knowledge that they impart.

      I admire your futile attempt to know everything. I feel the same. And you are correct. It would be illegal to film and release such images today.

    I love the videos and everything but I wish there was some type of explanation or narrative or something of the sort...I mean the video doesn't matter if you don't understand what the hell is going on??? I'm just saying that even though they show some type of direction its hard to follow if you don't understand the lingo back then...

    why all the subjects are females...no Male subjects??

    • @mangalyatiwary9490
      @mangalyatiwary9490 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Oh well this is the Freudian regression we are talking about. Sigmund Freud had discussed that any mental abnormality a woman is having is because of suppression of her sexual desires and that is the reason that all the women who were having such abnormalities were said to have hysteria in ig 19 century according to Freud's theory. Freud's theory were mostly male oriented, by this I mean, like he said that a male can be having mental abnormalities due to pressure from his family or work but a women can only have abnormalities due to her suppressing her sexual desires. So all in all hysteria in those times ,according to Freud's Psychology School was a women's mental disorder and so, all the subjects are women.
      PS: There might be some things missing in my explanation because I am still studying ( I am 17)

      @@mangalyatiwary9490 Standard Victorian era psychology believed hysteria was a woman's condition solely. Freud was one controversial among his peers for being the first to suggest that *men* could be hysterics too!
