Love Thailand, it is beautiful, and it is my second home. Very safe and cheap, if you go broke there it is because you don't make enough money or u have an addicted personality.

Looking to retire in the next few months in Colombia..Would you say $1500 a month would work all in Medellin? Or is Cali more affordable?Lived in Lima for 6 years time to try Colombia.
I was in Bangkok in the military. I liked it and the Thai people. I never chased after the little Thai girls which is more than I can say for the rest of the US Navy. We were given permits (chits) to purchase alcohol at the Air Force exchange (cheap). I have never drank alcohol. We had a cab driver who drove us in exchange for the alcohol which he sold to the thai bars who sold it back to the US military for much much more. I brought back saphires and rubies and wood carvings and much more.
my hotel had a full wall mirror here there and every where, so I used my looks to leverage a proper human diet and exercize, went to 1 meal a day of protein, zero'd off sugar and seed oils, and in 2-3 weeks was at my level I liked in the mirror, so I just stayed with the 1 meal, walking and some private Muay Thai, very do-able, so my dopamine was a better body image as opposed to a hangover for 2 days lol
Going broke in Thailand is much better than working and going broke through paying rent and taxes in your home country.
I make it work just fine in the USA and I'm not wealthy. I stay out of bars and strip clubs. It can come down to what you don't spend money on. I vacation about a month a year overseas all total.

when people come to bangkok, they want to explore many places, so it is quite costly to do so. If you stay longer, you might lost your interest in those places. Your cost will decrease. Similar to any big cities around the world, it has many things to do but the cost of living will relatively high compare to smaller cities. There are some cities in Thailand that is less crownded, but good place to live with most of the facilities you need. If you love mountain and forest, visit Cheang Mai. If you love Ocean, visit Hua Hin.

Hey Brother, get a card that has no international fee. I have chase, 2 of my cards dont have any fee and they also give me money back. Pretty sure all banks have some kind of card like this.
i was living in pattaya, i lived outside the bars area, after a while i got fed up as i felt too many expats & you aren't treated as well from the locals, then i moved up north far better, locals are so nice, i stayed in thailand for 6 months, issues is the visas and border runs, now i plan to check out cebu, stay for a while then decide which is better

Yes, very true. As cheap as things are here you can easily go broke if you don't discipline yourself. You need to work out a budget and stick to it. If you want to have a full time girlfriend it's going to cost you more than double. People who come here to Thailand without a plan will definitely go broke.

Not to throw around medical advice but what you are talking about is lack of impulse control, dopamine is the neurotransmitter involved but it is not as simplistic as that. Dopamine is the "pleasure" neurotransmitter but it also the substance that makes you think before you act, it is that millisecond in your mind that stops you from doing something foolish. It is kind of a catch 22 because of low dopamine you do stupid or rash things but the activity raises your dopamine so you feel better. I am glad to hear you speaking positive of Colombia, I still think it is great place if you are financially secure.

Colombia is NOT cheaper than Thailand. Not even close. Fun fact: in Colombia the cashier at the grocery will ask you how many payments you want to make for your groceries, 1-6. Yes, that's right kids, Colombia is so expensive their grocery stores allow shoppers to FINANCE their current groceries. Never saw that in thailand. Food is cheaper in Thailand, women are cheaper, beer is cheaper, motos are cheaper, paying off cops is cheaper, clothes are cheaper, and the list goes on.

I'd like to hear your perspective. You could do a commentary video on it for instance. I'd be very interested in watching as I love Cali, would like to go back, but would like to do so as safely as is possible given the situation and at least understand the risks. The problem is dudes save up don't work then go......it's all about having income... I would rather make 4 grand a month and have 200.00 dollars in my bank account and live overseas.....than have no income with 20,000 saved.....

It's not that difficult to control you cost, not just in Thailand but everywhere you travel. You count how much money you have, devide it by the numbers of days you are there, then stick to the daily budget, I know it can be hard sometimes, but then you force yourself to stick with it by taking only that daily budget of money in cash with you and that's pretty much it...
