In this video I would like to just present to you a few of my thoughts about Galactic Cruise and on crowdfunding in general.
Have I been cured of FOMO??
Do I really want to pledge for this game..?

They did a great job of marketing for sure. It has the rage at GenCon last year and it didn't see it die down. I decided to not back as it appears I can just get this at retail later. It does look beautiful though.

I really meant no offense to the designers of this game and wanted to share my experience with this project.
And I might not have done this video if it was 'just another project'.
But the hype around it was too crazy to ignore.
At the same tone, I salute these guys for creating such a buzz around it. And I guess it proved ro be good because it is already almost at 400K and I think it will double till the end of the project, or with the late pledges when the pledge manager will open.
I just don't need to back it.. 😉

Being mindful is ALWAYS great advice😉 Being 1 year into the hobby of playing board games, I have noticed how incredible the hype can be for new games just for being new and it can be overwhelming. So am grateful to discover channels like yours that show both genuine excitement for games that speak to you and caution on those that don't. Not saying I don’t respect the hobby of game "collection", just saying there's a lot to sift through when considerating games I may want to invest in to play. May need to cull my TH-cam game channel subscriptions to help sort it all out. Not yours, though. You rock!!!

If I can be honest with you, myself and my viewers, I can say that in 2023 I've backed around 24 games.
To me, looking backwards, it is an EXCESSIVE amount of games to back on top of the games I buy second hand. It's just too much and I regret at least 50% of them. I hope to do better on 2024.
I personally don't like the collection aspect of the hobby (but totally respect those who do it).
In my collection I decided to have 'only' 100 games and every game that comes in has to be followed by a game going out.
This team put a master class on in terms of marketing. I recently had the similar experience with Floe. I went through almost the same exact stages with Floe that you did with Galactic Cruise. I passed on Floe. I am backing GC though, I have watched enough gameplay videos and reviews from people I respect to be confident that I will love this one. I am also one who has a hard time buying games that do not have deluxe editions. I have so many great games, the gameplay is no longer the defining factor. It must deliver a superior overall experience.
I totally get you for the deluxe things. I think I was just recently so burnt from games that maybe look great, but that's about it.
Marketng for GC was just mind blowing!!

Nothing motivates to grab it early..
I played it on TTS and found that it plays as good as it looks. This game checks every box for me. Do I need it? No. But I'm careful with my pledges, so I have room for this one.
That is totally legit..
And I think I will enjoy it aswell!
I just don't think I should spend that amount of money now for something that will sit a few more weeks/months on my shelf before I'll tend to it.
But hey! 😊 this is just me and what I thought about this project being in Kickstarter.

This game definitely looks like one I would enjoy and I really like Weather Machine and Lisboa by Lacerda. But as soon as I heard the designers being interviewed and they said they are already designing expansions... I think it will definitely be coming back for a reprint campaign in the future!
So I passed on it for now. If it is amazing I can look again in a reprint campaign, or from the secondary market. Like you - no criticism of the game or designers, just don't feel I *need* to back it right now.

So yeah.. now I'm even more convinced that you'll be able to get this game cheaper.
So! Here's how it's going to work:
Base game 2nd hand market--》shelf of shame for about 6 months--》playing this game a few times--》understanding that most likely I won't be using the expansions--》*might* stay in my collection

No hype required for me. I love this type of game and having watched playthroughs, I was convinced that I would back it as I like the game systems. The presentation is a bonus.

Hi Asaf, funny thing: I feel the same. Was eager to back this game because of the hype and then stopped for a moment. I do not need it, yet. I'll wait and see it it is a good one or not. Time will tell :-)

I really don’t think you can call a game overproduced if the price is still very fair. For me a game is overproduced with it inflates the price. This is not the case with galactic cruise. The value is insane considering the quality of the components, the art and the inserts. Insta-back for me.

I saw many games with amazing components (and lots of them) that cost less..
How about Eclipse? Gloomhaven? Anachrony? Even the Galactic Box of Voidfall was 40€ bigger, but... I assume you've seen Voidfall.
Now, for me, overproduced components is more (like I said in the video) bigger meeples or tiles just for the sake of being bigger or thicker.
I have no doubt I will enjoy this game aswell! Just not for 160€

I also got a lot of ads for this one and I was intrigued by the retro look and design..
160 total is indeed a lot though... Definitely not a quick impulse buy.
I need to shop for some inspiring stuff soon, as my creative attempts to create 18 cards game leads me nowhere...
We should talk soon and maybe I'll be able to advice for you some games that cost much less and can inspire you much more 😊

I read somewhere that they were comparing mechanics to The Gallerist, so I'm not surprised by your comments :D I was/still am hesitant and I might just downgrade to the $1 pledge manager access. I'm watching a second video to see if I can be convinced 100%. If you wan to play the Tabletop Simulator or Tabletopia versions, hit me up. That way, we can both decide on the game.
I'd love to play with Mike whatever you want! But in anycase I think I'll stay on the 'no' side 😬😅

Totally on the same wavelength as you. I felt no compulsion to back this game because I already have a decent collection of Lacerda's I love and felt this one didn't bring anything new to the table like you said. Also by marketing it's Lacerda esk they are trying to justify the Eagle Gryphon like levels of production which I can bet this game doesn't need. Needless to say this one was an easy skip for me.

Backed Cyclades yesterday, so... it's a no no for me on this one 🤣 my wallet needs to survive until the end of the month 😆
It's like you said, it's an overproduced euro, but if it follows the prices of the Vital games in the secondary market it will hold it's value, but you will always catch some good deal at any given time.
So 2 conclusions...
1. Maybe I hate this planet because I prefer to pay the same money for a game that it's mostly plastic 🙃
2. Voidfall saved your wallet! So no matter how much you paid for it at the end you saved money 🤣

Yes, I agree that Lacerda's games keep their value but just untill a certain price.
If I can get today most of his games in umder 100€ (maybe not his latest), then I think it's worth waiting.
I love deluxified games aswell! But what I don't like is overproduced games. This is why, with time, I prefer maybe less games with tons of figurines, and upgrade those games if they really hit my table many times.

I think that its price (204€ WITH delivery) is an AMAZING price for what you get inside. And even its price will go down evantually, especially with Mindclash going to reproduction with it.

Yeah, I mean.. I always find it weird that a company is already putting 2 expansions out there when it just doing the KS. Better to have some feedback from the backers of from players, no? So I guess we'll see 😊
I feel like regardless of hype, the default position should be not-backing until you know how it plays. It sounds like you don't fully grasp how it plays, so it's an obvious pass. I love Lacerda's games, I have a pretty good idea how this plays... And I'm giving it a pass anyway.
I agree with you that till you know how it plays you shouldn't back a game (although I would lie if I've said I've never backed a game without knowing how it plays..)
It's also true that I haven't profoundly went into all the playthroughs etc.
And yet... it feels that it's really not necessary inorder to understand what's going on there.
And if already I want to spend 160€ about these kind of games, then yeah- give me a Lacerda game 😊

I've played it, yes. The combat system us really good in my opinion. I like how the different technologies are integrated into combat with the cards.
About the rest of the game- it feels that something is just missing. I'm not sure what exactly.. you finish the game and you're not really satisfied.
With that, I have to say that I haven't played with the modules yet! And they might be the answer to this game to make it great.

@@ezbgames i ve already played it, my english is not so good XD i think the game was created with in mind the campaign. In a oneshot game i agree with you, something seems missing. Bit the campaign is awfull. Maybe for the oneshot wold be better to play with the 3 ages module, to give more possibilities to the player.
So you didn't enjoy the campaign 😮
That makes me not want to play it even more haha
But I do want to try the modules. Especially the one that adds the exploration part so it will be a true 4X game.
Usually, I'm not into campaign games, so it's either good as a one-shot, or not at all.
