Are these the "Best Enduro Trails" in the North? - We think so!!

  • We think these are "the best Enduro tracks" we have ever ridden in England. They are absolutely brimming with all the elements that make a great trail. They are a good length, steep, challenging and littered with roots, rocks, chutes and built features and manage to flow incredibly well There is plenty of progression to be had sessioning these amazing trails.
We were blown away by the quality, we doth our cap to the very talented trail fairies responsible!
So this week we wanted a double "Mindful Challenge".
We again wanted to explore some new riding spots and also wanted to ride something a bit outside of our comfort zone and Im happy to report we achieved both.
We were also following the better weather with the Peak District looking dry after heavy rain on the Friday.
So Saturday we visited the famous Wharncilffe woods and despite having a great day, we abandoned filming as there are so many forks in each track we were stopping and starting too much on what are short tracks anyway and the filming was getting in the way of the fun.
We then headed over to lady bower and stayed on the lady bower Inn carpark overnight in the van which cost £10 for 24 hours parking (if a meal was purchased in the pub). This gave us a good starting point to explore the trails in the forest on the West side of Ladybower reservoir.
These trails are not on trailforks and are in the “cheeky” category. We did meet plenty of friendly locals who were more than happy to chat and share their knowledge and we managed to string together an awesome day of riding covering 13 miles and around 2500ft of total climbing.
The climbs for us were a mix of pedal and push as they were pretty damn steep in places. There were a few locals besting some of these steeper ascents, hats off, but it’s a tremendous e-bike destination with the sting being taken out of the tougher climbs.
Riding each track completely blind meant we were inevitably going to find a trail that challenged and we found a couple of tracks with sections that were outside our pay grade on that day. The GoPro effect does its usual job of sanitising the danger but I can assure you we were dealing with a very slick surface at times and very steep sections of trail with any application of brakes leading to the bike sliding out sideways. We did say we wanted to scare ourselves a little and we definitely achieved that.
We would both love to come back and try and tackle the sections that bested us and familiarise ourselves with the tracks in general.
We will be back very soon!!

Morning Pete! On that side of the forest it was very greasy under the loam surface. just required enough confidence to keep the wheels turning and not brake too much which on the day I didn’t have. 😅
As always thanks for watching, appreciating and taking the tome to comment!

Some of those trail sections look remarkably similar to what we have in the PNW of the USA.

Now then.. Dent… yes I’ve heard many scary stories of those trails eek 😱
      Mindful challenge accepted.
Is there a good order to do the tracks in in order to ease in at all?

Dent doesn’t really have “warm up” but there are some easier trails at the very end of the main access path and on the opposite hill, Trailforks should show them 🤞🏻 I’m a Strava subscriber so don’t really use TF.
I just use the access path to the trailhead path, then work my way along, 1st trail - down, back up, 2nd trail - down and so on till I’m out is gas 🥵 the middle access path back up is a killer, much fitness needed, which I currently lack 😂😂.
      Stay safe out there 🤛

Great video and honest too. It genuinely is not an easy place to ride, but so rewarding. Some stuff there will definitely make you think twice, to the point you do the really stupid thing and stop (yep I'm guilty 🤣). Did you do the lower part of "the gift.." (the trail where it starts mellow and gets swopy vefire the rock roll/drop)? That gets pretty tasty
Those tracks are lethal in the wet and actually need to be avoided to protect them. It didnt look too bad when you visited but certainly enough to make it "interesting" 😂.
    Subbed.

Thank you for watching and for the kind words! Genuinely some of the best trails I’ve ever had the pleasure of riding! I do love finding trails that are a bit too difficult especially in first attempt. Really looking forward to getting back soon to see if I can crack the sections I found hard. Would like the table the angled log drop, didn’t look too bad if lined up properly. I’m not sure if the trial names, but there is a track in the video where I meet a bunch of guys at a rock drop/roll, it steepens up after that with some tasty steep corners.
Totally get the too wet to ride rule, our local tracks at Rivington are the same. We would always respect trail longevity and stick to the bridle ways when very wet. It was more greasy than anything that weekend (last weekend)!

@@MindfulTrailBiker I am no expert on that hill, done it about 5 or 6 times and I'm a bit more xc than enduro (bike is also not ideal as it's a short travel downcountry style bike). Guys I've never ridden the Ladybower lake on my bike and hope i con convince my missus to take a trip out there with me to explore those woods and trails there. BUT i do know ther ares roads very well as i have been a biker since forever currently runing an Africa Twin and a sexy old ZX9R ...... one thing i will say is if your ever interested in a great stop and amazing food (pub lunch style) the Yorkshire Bridge Inn is one of the very best Fish n Chips you will ever get in the north west as far as i am concerned. The Snakes Pass road is a gem of a drive or ride and the woods make for great wild camping ..... defo looks amazing and i hope to check this out soon as i am back in good old Blighty as sadly this nugget (me) works abroad, great video guys well done.

There are some routes in Trailforks as well. If you click on the win hill to ladybower blue run and then click routes it does show a few different routers zig - zagging up and down in the woods close To the reservoir.

Thank you Pat, appreciate you watching! That’s a tough one to answer. We did a 13 mile ride and nearly 1000m of climbing doing this edit so we would consider that to be a ride. I have done an XC loop in this area before but we wanted to explore the tracks in the woods this time round. If you look at our other edits we have done guided routes for Rivington moor which was a bit more XC. I think we prefer this type of climb and descend enduro type riding being honest and ive found that generally the audience isn’t turned on by climbing especially with my heavy breathing 🤣
