    WHAT THIS VIDEO COVERS:
After some difficult months, stress took a huge toll on my body. My HRV scores plummeted to 18ms - the lowest they've ever been. And I knew something needed to change. So I called on the help of a friend and fellow TH-camr, Kylegotcamera to help coach me on getting my stress levels back in check. Fast forward to just a few weeks later...my sleep quality has drastically improved and my HRV scores have more than tripled. So how did this happen? Stick around as I share the secrets behind my Sleep Advantage transformation.

A cold shower in L.A. is not the same as a cold shower in Winnipeg

      big facts!

    • @ABAdams
      @ABAdams 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well...yeah
      These people say
      Take a cold shower
      But, what is "cold"
      In L.A. it might be 50 F
In Winnipeg it might be 30 F
Time to start being a little more specific
5 minutes at 30 F takes a bit more fortitude
And BTW; why don't you fuckers start using degrees C like the civilized world?

Love your video! I have EDS and it bleeds into my quality of sleep. In 2019 I worked with an orthopedic spine surgeon 2 hours a time, 3 days a week for over a year. She has taught me a a similar neuromuscular technique that he goes over but I would argue slightly more in depth. I love that he mentioned fully exhaling! It makes a difference! It’s not often that we as individuals fully exhale our entire breath.

This is so helpful! Thank you. I will say everyone should also do what’s best for their health for example the not eating a few hours before bed doesn’t work for me. I have hypoglycemia and often times before bed blood sugar plummets to 70 or below and this disrupts sleep. So a light snack with protein and healthy carb helps provide much better sleep quality.

Awesome! While I've incorporated a couple of these components, I'm excited to try the others. I must admit, the cold shower is my toughest mountain to conquer!

yeah I know! The best advice I can give is just start by doing 5 seconds! take a hot shower and turn it cold for a short amount of time. your tolerance will build over time!

Hi Katie, thank you for taking the time and effort to create this insightful videos. I can personally validate that breath work increases my HRV, however, I do not think I can do cold showers been doing lukewarm showers.

    • @billkimura4512

Katie Type A Thats good to know, thanks. I’ve experimented with cold showers recently but didn’t stick with for more than a couple of days as I didn’t see immediate effects on my HRV. I did however feel great afterwards. Maybe I’ll try again but this time give it at least a week or two.

if you're not waking up to an alarm for shift work you might want to check your histamine levels. Histamine is highest during these times. For some people they won't get classic allergy symptoms, but will wake up routinely at 3-4am after a few hours of deep sleep.

I definitely agree with the light therapy! It has worked like a charm. I am also very supportive of deep breathing exercises. I think cold therapy is great for men, and women also asa long as it is not below 50 degrees, since as females the cold can shock our system into sympathetic (fight or flight) drive. We are NOT the same as men, and our bodies react very differently. I would highly suggest dry sauna or red light therapy also. These have made a huge difference in bringing me back from Long Covid hell a few years ago.
