- Short video showing how to disassemble the famous DT770 Pro headphones from Beyerdynamic.
It was taken apart to upgrade all the internal cables and also make a detachable cable mod.

My 770s fell and the left cup was rattling with no audio. This guide helped me know the right way to open them and fix them and now they work again.
Me too after dropping it, the left side no longer works. However, all the welds are intact. I conclude that I need to replace the transducer. Was it the same problem for you?
Finally cleaned my DT990 pros after 3 years using this video as a guide. Thanks a lot!
Definitly one of the best cup designs out there, love the design and acoustic-specific parts. A great reference for anyone wanting to get into engineering custom cans.
I've bought the DT770 Pro 80Ohm and loving them already. Nice to see, that they are very repairable!! Nothing is glued together and each cable can be replaced, if broken. Nice!
80 Ohm!!
@@Catherinewheelband nothing wrong with 80ohm
Without voiceover this feels like an ASMR video. Helpful nonetheless, thanks mate.
Hah, indeed. Thanks!
As I am without any sight, I can't tell what's going on if there's not any voiceover in this video.
This was more helpful than I was expecting. Thank you. I have a buzzing on my left driver, and I didn't wanna go full apeshit trying to take em apart without knowing how, and I don't want to replace them. I love these cans, and while I can buy more, I'd like to avoid it if at all possible.
@@smugpug3093 Was it hair? Or the driver is actually busted? It's annoying that you pay for premium headphones and they die quickly :(
@@heksogen4788 idk what their problem was but doesn't it have a 2 year warranty?
@@smugpug3093 I had it on my right side. So I disassembled it to 5:28 but I went further and detached the speaker from the outer part. I had to bend the outer part a bit because the noses that hold the speaker in place are too short to bend them directly.
I formed a tunnel with both hands, having the speaker on one end (sound direction is facing outside) and blowing into that tunnel. The buzzing went away. When I assembled everything together both sides were sounding equally loud and fine again, its just that I hear a bit of buzzing on the left side now when trying lower frequencies. I probably need to do the same thing on that one too. I suspect that the membrane got some crinkles over time, so sending a good load of air in to the back of the speaker likely evened these crinkles out.
Edit: ah well, the right side finally gave up completely. Can't do anything about it now, so I've ordered a "System 80 Ohm DT 770" replacement part.
i have the same exact problem with my left one
Great walkthrough! I plan on disassembling my pair of dt770's today to remove a pesky hair that is trapped in my left earcup. Also getting a pair of Dekoni choice leathers to put on it. Im very excited, and thanks to you, very comfortable getting in there.
Good luck!
Thx for the time I didn't waste with your help :)
You're welcome.
Watching this with only the left channel working and feeling like i just lost a close friend... But at least i now got some hope for tomorrow! (-:
Hah, good luck!
literally every part of the disassembly but the part i needed haha
What were you looking for?
@@binauralearful7935 pretty much the only bit that's left to take apart; separating the driver from the disc thing that it sits in. Needed to tweeze hairs off of the membrane.
Oh okay, well I hope you were able to find a way. I took it apart to make the cable detachable.
What ever you do ... DO NOT REMOVE THE INNER FOAM. People say "Remove the foam to increase bass and treble", don't. They're there to prevent hairs and dust getting in your drivers. While, yes, it would change the sound profile, it's not worth it. One single hair is all it takes to make the drivers rattle like maracas.
thank you! I fixed my phones with the help of this!
Thanks, this helped me with opening them so I could solder one of the disconnected wires!
Glad to be of help.
I am a happy owner of the Dt 770 pro but after less than 2 years the drivers cable insulation started splitting exposing the red/white cables. Looks like it can be replaced with a similar generic cable. The question i have is: Is the cable going into the driver soldered or attached with clip/ screw?
Thx to anyone that can answer.
It’s been a while, but I believe it’s all soldered. Good luck!
Exactly the same happened with mine.
Thanks for the disassembly video! I've been looking into these after my ATH-MX50's broke after only two months of having them and been wondering what the construction of these was like. They did a far better job on wires inside the earpiece than Audio Technica did.
I personally have the original ATH-M50’s as well as the DT770’s and I like them both. The 770’s have a metal headband and overall the plastic feels more rugged than the M50’s. As for sound, they are both great, just keep in mind that the 770’s come in different ohm ratings and might need more power if you end up getting a higher ohm version. Also to consider is the foldability of the M50’s, which is not possible with the 770’s.
Good luck!
@@binauralearful7935 Nice arsenal. I'm currently listening to video using my ATH-M40's while trying to figure out how to fix my 2 sets of DT770's (one with an input that snapped, and another with heavy distortion in right ear.
very intriguing damping set up
Thanks for this, was wonder for the longest time on how you could remove the ear cups mine were dirty
You’re welcome!
Im having an essue to disassemble Beyerdynamic DT770 pro 250 ohms!! the right ear doesnt work anymore and i can't get out the internal white baf!! do you have an idea about it!
perfect... exactly what i was lookin for. Thanks😊
Glad to hear it!
thanks, there was this little thing giving shaking inside it which was giving me headphones. Looks like a ball of solder or a tiny ball bearing, I hope nothing goes wrong down the line.
I'm glad you found the issue. Happy listening.
awesome, can't wait to do this with my brand new $150 headphones
Your call. Personally I replaced all the wiring with higher quality components. My set of cans is nowhere near new anymore however.
Thank You! Exactly what I needed to see.
You’re welcome.
Cool video, thanks. My left earcup has a rattle, but its working fine. From your video, looks like there is a screw in there right where the wire comes in at the top. Maybe mine came out, and is now rattling around in there.
Youre missing some foam in the cups. Does it sound better without it?
Great help
Thank you so much for this video
I'm glad that it was helpful. :)
Thank you for this video !!!
Glad it helped!
"Disassembly"
\*assembles the clamp slider-parts back together immediately*
Cool, thank you for your work to show us.
Helpful, thank you.!
thx!
You are most welcome!
Why at 4:15 my speaker does not come out ?
how do you get the driver out? mine doesn't just fall out like yours
Were you able to get it out? I’d try carefully prying with a small screwdriver maybe.
@@binauralearful7935 i knocked it on the table a few times and that seems to have done it
I have distortion in the right earcup of my Dt770 pro 16ohm version from time to time..i heard that hairs stuck inside the foam can cause this!
+martin vegas Possible I guess, although my understanding is that if there is rattling, it is probably near the driver itself.
Thanks!
So, I accidentally make a little hole on my beyerdynamics bt 770 on the center of that white paper, an I'm going absolutely mad because I don't know if that will affect the sound, what do you think, will it affect the sound?
Probably not. It will make it easier for strands of hair to get into the driver and get stuck on the sticky diaphragm. This will eventually cause a rattling noise. Try a low frequency sweep on different volumes.
You can remove said hairs by disassembling the headphones. Only takes a few minutes.
+Silver Salle Mine also had a little punktete, I sealed it with mix of white glue ans water.
I haven't noticed any sound difference.
Thanks for the help, I think I'm gonna try to do that
i also punctured. aaaggghhhh. has it caused distrotion?
Im hearing a slight rattling in one driver with certain bass notes, but I dont see anything visibly wrong.
Is there a way to disassemble the driver even further without damaging it to see if I can some how fix it, or do I just have to buy a replacement one?
would you say there's any noticeable difference between the 600ohm and 250ohm drivers, if I have to buy one and the 600s are worth it might as well buy 2 600s instead and have an upgrade 🤷♂️
Hey BigMan, I don’t think there is anything else you can safely take apart on the drivers, so I’d say you are out of luck there.
In terms of 250vs600, I have no experience with other models beside the 250s so can’t say. Sorry
Thank you!
You're welcome.
Nice
Could someone help? I've got my Beyers (the same model) cleaned with vacuum cleaner around earbuds very carefully but seems not enough after I've got loss of volume on both of earbuds, help me out! I'd be so appreciated.
dude i did the same and my left ear cup is suddenly very quiet. Have you managed to fix it?
@@lightflix my left is quiet too
@@MiKurumiHu mine fixed itself over time. Took a week! It's somehow back to normal now.
First of all - a proper way to dismont the ring wich hold driver is to pry it from inside unlike of trying to wiggle it from outside which can cause cracks and dents in cabinet. In older models you probably will find philips screws rather torx ones. Torx screws are used from around 2015
+Marek Wąski Thanks for the information.
I was hoping he will show how to dismount the driver as I started hearing rattle as of today, is this how you should remove the driver or what do you mean? so like a push from the side of the white paper to the driver will do it?
@@S3idSensei drivers are hold by there black hoks which you need pry to evacuate a driver. When the driver is out You need to blow to backside on cone to pop it proud to catch every hair and now you should gently push the cone to its original position. and its all. The most important thing when you are cleaning the cone of a driver is to use nonmagnetic instruments. I can make short film what to disassemble a beyerdynamic driver.
@@marekpowazka989 Thanks for the info, If you can make a video that will be great, so many people will make use of it.
lifesaver
In the right ear cup, there's only supposed to be two wires attached to the driver, correct? And one empty metal thing in the middle? I've dropped mine multiple times and heard a rattling in the right ear the other day, so I took it apart and the middle metal thing (L-shape with a pin sticking out from the long side) had broken off. Both ear cups still work, is this piece inessential? There's still two wires connected to the left and right pieces.
Maybe I'm 8 months late but yeah it doesnt need to be attached its just the same part in the left cup to connect one cable to the other (right) side
how to remove the headband arms from the cups? i want to change mine using behringer 770
Currently don’t have access to the headset to check, sorry.
4:18 mine wont come out of the ear cup?
It should come out quite easily, maybe pry it out very carefully?
If we take of this foam behind the drivers what makes to the sound?
I am not sure, sorry.
unfortunately no loose wire in my headphones, though I still have warranty so I'll just send them off to be fixed. Thanks anyways this was helpful nonetheless
How much force can the outer (exposed) wires take without breaking. Is there something on the other side stopping them being pulled?
I‘m not exactly sure but I never had any issues with it.
They have an internal metal clip that is quite strong, the force to damage the wire is the same you'd need to deform a paper of aluminium, they are quite strong.
@@Goldern A "paper" what does this mean?
@@bbf0ab08cb44becfec A thin aluminum sheet
@@Goldern How many milimeteres do you think the piece is?
what is the first ccrew driver name
+Yahya Ehab That is a Torx T10 bit. I hope that helps.
Спасибо за видос :)
Could you help me disassemble Beyerdynamic DTX 501p? That is speakers themselves cloud.mail.ru/public/Didm/kxEzHQEST . There are no screws, so I don't know how to open them without damage. I've got no experience in such a business, so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
I don’t own those particular cans, sorry.
Thank you anyway, I've found that already: www.head-fi.org/threads/diy-cable-gallery.71148/page-1002#post-13042547
Thanks for the link.
Dang I took mine apart cuz I had a rattle at low bass and it turns out it was just 1 hair, thanks for this teardown
Glad it helped.
i currently have the same problem, but seems like its an easy fix. Thankfully beyerdynamic made it easy to disassemble them
Thanks man!
