- Hi! I invite you to watch this video about my personal sewing challenge this last week and let me know your thoughts on how many things you think I made and if I should complete one of the projects I show. Thanks for watching and commenting! #beginnersewing #craftideas #diysewing
Patterns in the video:
Skirt: New Look6458
T-Shirt: Know Me 2048
Hat: McCalls 7766
Hi Lara! Your hat is so adorable! I love to watch old black and white movies and when you flipped up the brim and with the way your hair framed your face, it totally reminded me of women in the 1920s. So cool!
I’ve never made a hat - I assumed they were more complicated, but you made it seem do-able.
Your skirt looks perfect for fall/winter and it looks great with the shirt you paired it with. I’ve had it happen to me too when I make a top and bottom out of the same fabric and NOPE not gonna wear them together 🙂↔️
Thanks for sharing the makeup pad idea - I should make some of those for myself!
I’m glad your husband and son turned down the fabric so you could make cozy blankets for your dogs instead ❤😊
EVERYTHING you made counts!
You definitely should make one of these hats! It really was pretty simple and I think it's such a cute design. I think it might be inspired by the 1920's cloche (I think they're called) hats. I think they would be really nice in a wool/flannel mix! I had some fears about that fabric for the skirt being all over my body, but I hoped that the cream color would tone down the stripes. :D I definitely think Nyx and Zannah will appreciate the blankets more than the people would. Thanks for watching and chatting about everything!
I love Stray Kids! I can’t wait to see what you make!
Your skirt looks so beautiful! Perfect for the fall. ❤ Your pet pads are going to be so cool for the pets.❤
Thanks, Zelda! I do love that skirt - I'm happy with how it turned out and it was so simple to sew! I might have to make some more. :D Have a great week!
I agree with you on no band on the hat . You were productive. I need to make pot holders 😊
I so wish I'd gotten the potholder done! It's such a cute pattern! I'm glad to hear other people don't think the band should go on, either! Have a great week!
Beautiful skirt, perfect fit
Thank you so much! :D
First of all Lara, I LOVE your haircut. It is so cute and the hair color is so attractive. You indeed sewed up 7 things. And I vote NO for a band on the hat. The hat is very cute without it. It looks very Vintage. I LOVE the skirt. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! It goes GREAT with the zipper top and boots. I can't believe it but I actually pulled out New Look N6458 yesterday to possibly sew the Tee in view C. See you on the livestream! 💝
Thank you, Grace! I'm getting used to how to style the hair, so I'm not quite a frustrated with it. Last week was definitely rough! :D I can definitely recommend the hat pattern, and I can't wait to see how your N6458 turns out! Thanks so much for watching and all your support!

I like the hat plain. The skirt is a great basic too. I can’t believe the boys didn’t want the fabric! On your husband’s tee could you get some contrast ribbing and make a new neck band? I enjoy seeing all the things you make!
Thanks so much, Julie! I'm not sure if the boys didn't want the fabric because I was going to make hoodies out of it (and they don't really like pull over hoodies) or if it was the fabric itself. I'm happy to have used it up! Thank you so much for enjoying the video! It was a lot of fun to sew so many simple things. Very satisfying!! Have a great week!
Love your hair…really suits you 😊we do see ourselves differently to others don’t we😊 bye for now x Debbie x
Thank you! I agree, I (at least) tend to be pretty hard on myself. :D Thanks so much for stopping by and saying nice things!!
The skirt is a great basic with a print that adds a little something to an outfit. Loving your outfit too! That hat is VERY cute and is very cute on you! I’d say no to the band too, I agree with you. I think it’s really cute when you fold it up. I’ve been meaning to make my fur baby a cozy blanket and myself a hat. Oh and an easy knit skirt has been on my list, but I don’t have heavy enough knits for the winters here. You made a lot of things! My count is 6 😁 it could also be individual items, but I counted the largeness of the sewing.
So many upcoming things! Looking forward to seeing what creative ideas you put out 💕
Great idea for the skirt - if I can find a print with some cream in it, it would look really nice together! This hat pattern was super-easy and pretty fast, so I can definitely recommend it for a starter hat pattern! Thanks so much for watching and stopping for a little chat!! :D
What a productive week! I personally prefer the hat without a band; it is really cute. Seeing your makeup removers/face wipes reminds me a bit of my flannel handkerchiefs. I cut them 12" square and just serge the edges. I've yet to have a problem with laundering them when I only serge the edges. They are especially nice when you have a cold or allergies as they're soft and warm. After seeing your pads, I'm wondering how nice it would be if I doubled them up and sewed them like your pads. I think I'm going to have to try that. I really liked you new skirt as well. Thank you for sharing your work. I enjoy seeing those practical little items that are often fun and easy to sew.
Thanks so much, Nadine! I'm so glad to be able to share some ideas that might work for you, too! Your handkerchiefs sound great! Very cozy and soft! Thanks so much for watching and commenting this week! And I appreciate the vote for no band on the hat! :D
I love your hair! Great makes. For your husband's t-shirt, what about used contrasting ribbing for the neckband. Thanks for sharing your makes.
Thanks so much, Glenda! I like the idea of the ribbing for the neckband, but I think it stretched out so badly that there isn't any saving it. It's crazy how bad it is! :( I hope you have a great week this week!
I think you made more than 10 items. I like the hat.
Thank you Vanessa! That hat definitely was the star of the video, I think! Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
@LaraSchiffbauer Your welcome.
I would TOTALLY wear the storm trooper fabric!😂😂😂 For the t-shirt, could you run a matching string/lace through the neck. I vote no band. Turned up is super 90’s, which is really in as I understand it. You made all the things!
Right? I thought it was such cute fabric - especially the storm trooper one! But, that's what I get for not asking first. To be fair, the inside of the fabric wasn't the nices and may have been uncomfortable on the skin, so it's probably better that the pets get nice, soft beds out of it. Thanks so much for watching and chatting today! It's always a pleasure!
Your hat is so cute!
Thank you so much! It was a fun thing to sew up, too! :D
No band on the hat. Cute without it
The hat looks kind of like Gilligan's hat. Sometimes he wore it with the brim folded up in front, too.
Excellent point! I knew it reminded me of something, but I couldn't put my finger on it! :D Thanks for stopping by!!
No band on the hat!
Thank you! I whole-heartedly agree! Thanks for stopping by today!
