Feels good coming back to this. I absolutely ADORE this game. its been like 7 years since I played this game and the fight scene in this opening of Julius and Ludger still breaks me because I remember everything they went through ;_;
Strange that after all the controversy, and along with all the RPGs I've played... this is one of my favorite RPGs. It's like the love child of "Tales of" and "Fate Stay Night" with the battle mechanics of an actual fighting game. With a voiceless main character that literally is like the main character of a visual novel, where you as the player makes the decisions of the character. It's a Frankenstein's monster of a game... and I love it :)
Of the few Tales games i have played, Xillia has been both my first and most favorite one yet, though the Zestria and Vesperia are pretty close seconds.
I played Symphonia, graces f, Xillia 1, Xillia 2, Zestiria, and I'm sorry but Xillia 2's scenario was the best and the most badass one. So many surprising revelations and plot twists... love it so much.
Seeing Xillia 2 makes me wish that Namco make other Tales games after Xillia 2 with modern civilization and what i mean by that is that it would have a world with cars, modern city buildings, tv, cell phones, trains and etc and you know what i mean instead of being medieval like all the time with new Tales of games they make. Because in Xillia 2 it had a modern civilization well kinda i think with modern technology like cell phones, modern city buildings, guns, tv and etc. Something like what Square Enix did with Final Fantasy when it use to be knights and dragons and such you know what i mean until it got to Final Fantasy 7 where that game had a modern civilization and technology and such. And i don't have a problem with medieval things in games i just think the Tales series needs to evolve just like Final Fantasy and other games did instead of making a new Tales game with the same medieval like themes in each new Tales of game they make cause i think it's kind of getting old, and well yeah i do know the Tales games with a medieval like world has some sort of technology in it i think i guess but i'm talking about modern technology like what Xillia 2 has right now. I just wish Namco would make another Tales game with a advance modern like civilization and technology as a breath of fresh air to the Tales series.
If that's the kind of setting you're interested in, I suggest you check out the Trails games. It's a Legend of Heroes spinoff series that takes place about 50 years after the setting's equivalent of the industrial (magitech) revolution, and one of the series' themes is how society as a whole is still adapting to the significant changes made by the new technology, while also becoming increasingly more reliant on it. What games have been translated are all available on steam. The first game can be found here: store.steampowered.com/app/251150/The_Legend_of_Heroes_Trails_in_the_Sky/
It's will be more interesting if they make the new game after Tales of Arise was set in dystopian cyberpunk world.its can build up many potential such as world building, morality, vibe, morally grey characters (this is why everyone love vesperia, abyss, and berseria),and ost.
For me, this game was an emotional roller-coaster. The part when a variant Mila training places with the main Mila, finding out Ellie is Ludger's daughter from a different timeline, killing Julius, then the decision of killing Ledger or Elle... Not to mention the mini crossover in "Tales of Zesteria" fighting the Turtle dude that whistles like Ludger and Julius, and "Tales of Arise" with the fight against Chronus. Good stuff there.
I just love Ayu. I was listening to Song 4 u today, remembered it was for a game, and looked it up. I have to say that I'm impressed by this opening! It looks interesting.
+The Forgotten One finally, someone who have the same opinion as me..I really love Elle tbh..the instinct to protect her just kicked in when i played the game~~
ayieKresnik Right? I was like "SHE's MINE! In a semi-half literal sense.... alternative wise.." I still love her. I love Julius though too, but I had to protect Elle...
The Forgotten One with Julius, although the feeling wanting to protect him is there, but, in my mind he is a very capable big brother, I will protect him if the situations demand it..but between him and Elle, I will jump and protect her first~~ then Julius and Rollo..that damn flubby, cute, white cat..
***** I agree, I thought she was annoying little kid at first, but like after a few skits with her I just grew to love her and I usually dislike character like hers.
Call it controversial if you like, but I enjoyed the darker tone of Xillia 2. It may not leave you feeling like everything turns out right by the end, but honestly, that's how it is in life. Fiction always wrapping up with everything being sunshine and daisies at the end and nobody has to suffer ever again is pure fantasy. Which may be another big part of why I like Xillia 2: right from the outset it works to undermine the "everything got better" interpretation of the ending from the previous game and highlight the "but we still have a long ways to go" part that so many conveniently tend to ignore.
Not to mention the different endings make it pretty decent as well since two of them are rather dark and one's moderately good but (spoiler) someone dies anyway. I appreciate that none of the endings are "sunshine and rainbows", even in True Ending. ':P
+Sky Render I don't really understand what you are trying to argue here. The characters in Xillia went through TONS of shit even before the second game including losing loved ones, emotional suffering (Elize, Alvin, Millia and Jude went through this the most) and they even end up fighting each other. Hell Jude lost his teacher/idol within the first damn hour of the game. These characters suffered greatly. Not to mention the ending didn't necessarily guarantee anything either. Jude still had to find a way to fix the problem between the worlds in a limited time. He even brings up the "but we still have a long ways to go" thing you brought up (which really doesn't make any sense if you are talking about Tales of Xillia 2's true ending btw). Did you even play the damn games before spouting this crap? o_O So are you telling me that these characters just aren't allowed to have ANY kind of happiness because it doesn't jive with your own sense of realism? Even though that sense is EXTREMELY flawed? I'm questioning why people use this argument when it comes to endings. If the ending makes sense and doesn't totally come out of nowhere with a bullshit deus ex what's the problem if it's happy? Comparing a game about magical powers, spirits and other fantasy nonsense to real life is a pretty foolish venture in the first place though.
+holdingdegree9 You're not wrong, but I think what Sky Render was saying was that the dark ending makes it a little more relatable in a more ethereal sense. A big message that Xillia 2 was trying to convey was that in order to have something, you must miss out on or lose something else in return. You cant have your cake and eat it. It was also somewhat a commentary on life and what you would dedicate your life to - what would you sacrifice and what do you covet? What do you prioritize? To what degree would you will your passions and desires into existence? Everyone's answer to these questions are different, and the game focuses on your answers through Ludger. The great thing about this game (both X1 and 2) is that nobody comes out unscathed, much like real life, and that is a paradoxical breath of fresh air from the endings of most of the other games in the Tales series, and hell, even other stories in general. Its humbling and terrifying that we'll all make decisions that will alter our individual endings, as well as the endings of everyone else, and that experience is captured and portrayed through the lens of a PS3 game. Pretty cool stuff.
Chikin Nuggits I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with the merits you seem to be intent on giving Tales of Xillia 2. To put things bluntly your choices literally don't do shit until the final few chapters. That's when you actually have control over the final outcome. This fact alone kind of craps all over the whole choice factor that TX2 tried to push so hard. Just to bring up a few examples why can't you choose to save the Millia from the fractured dimension instead of Elle? The game gives you the option to try to save her but at the end she always has to leave. Why? Because the writers made Elle to important. Which put a limit on the choice system. Why can't you join Julius when you confront Rideaux? Why does he always get captured no matter what you do? Why can't you chose to join Bisley and his plan? In the grand scheme of things he's not wrong for wanting spirits to bend to the will of humans when Origin was a huge jackass who already set them up for failure when taking his asshole trial. See what I'm getting at here? This is no "Walking Dead" or "Until Dawn". The choice system is complete garbage in comparison to those games. Yes certain things ARE set in stone during those games but not to the extent Xillia 2 did it. When writing a game around this system can't make characters so important to the plot like Elle or Millia Maxwell. All it does is limit the options the player has to change the situation. Which I felt through most of my time playing the game. I didn't really have control over anything. Just minorly altering the dialogue doesn't cut it I'm afraid.
holdingdegree9 Again, you're not wrong. I agree that they made it kinda shitty in how they implemented "choice" in the game and it felt like the writers were lazy there. I was just analyzing it from a literary standpoint (as if it were a book), and only taking the final product of the story sans everything else. I agree with all your points, and it makes Xillia 2 an overall worse game. I was just hoping to clarify some of OP's statements. I think X2 would've been better if it were linear so at least we would have a clearer fleshed out story instead of a "branching" one that has no player driven consequence. If X2 were a book/show with a good author/director, I believe my merits would be valid. Sorry for any confusion duder ;w;
Not only is this one supposed to be a thousand times better than the first game, but many have agreed that it's on the same level of Vesperia, possibly even better. That's how fucking good this game is.
Better than the first game... I doubt that, the first game is almost always better than the second, but I guess that tastes are different xD Well, we'll see. If it really IS better, then it's awesome, 'cause in my opinion ToX 1 was pretty good.
Yoki Zeshi Having imported and finished it, I found it very very different to the first Xillia, but overall, much better. And also, as opposed to many Tales games, the final story arc is just as consistently good as the rest of the game.
Mahou Shoujo logic: Dancing around like an idiot with sparkle particle which takes forever to finish. The enemies are like "Ummm, are you done yet?" Shounen Logic: a transformation was so intimidating that blew up his surroundings which only take 5 secs at most.
And the CE is freaking glorious, Getting 2, just because I know that I'll want to use the Rollo Plush keychain and the pocketwatch...One has to stay nice... Maybe I'll make the two Ludgers into Milla's twin-mans o_o
I have to say, I liked this game even more than I thought I would. The story, the addition of ludger to the already great characters from the original game and the fun gameplay make this an amazing game. It might even be up there along with tales of the abyss as one of my all time favorites.
Why. Calm down, it can be bittersweet and good at the same time. It's depressing to me because SPOILERS Milla #2 dies in a sad way, Ludger has to kill his brother and either Ludger or Elle die in the end. Plus, Gaius seems a little lonely cause all his friends are dead. I would say all of that is pretty depressing. I still loved the game, though. That's my opinion and you don't have to agree.
+Why. seeing everything that went down in xillia 2 was the darkest out of all the tales games, hell the bad ending is saddest i've seen in any tales game x.x
That's why i kind of liked this game.......the story really is touching especially the one where you have to kill your brother.......the bad ending is really "bad" the last choice is hard too.... :( this game is amazing!
For real! With how well Arise did. It’s almost granted as it will be the easiest to do. All they have to do is sharpen the graphics. Be cool if they add the Japanese voices as well. I could definitely see a xilla 1&2 combo pack in the future.
I love the part in the wiki where it says: It is stated that Ludger's hair was all white, but he dyed part of his hair black because he thought it was cool.
Well gotta admit he looks pretty stylish in it.
***** He also dyed his eyebrow tho. Like.
Why
+Callie the Flareon And if you look at Nova she must have done the same with her hair only opposite side and inverted colors in contrast to Ludger xD
What a nerd.
I love him
actually the real reason was because he loved Nova and thus he copied her hairstyle; in the side quest (in the game), it was actually stated there.

The first game can be found here:
store.steampowered.com/app/251150/The_Legend_of_Heroes_Trails_in_the_Sky/
That reminds me of the good Star Ocean times. Kinda sad they killed the series with the joke of the recent title
It's will be more interesting if they make the new game after Tales of Arise was set in dystopian cyberpunk world.its can build up many potential such as world building, morality, vibe, morally grey characters (this is why everyone love vesperia, abyss, and berseria),and ost.
It baffles me how these games haven't been rereleased yet.
I love this opening. ❤❤❤
We might be in luck! There's rumors of a xillia remaster. And if Xillia 1 gets remastered, we'll definitely get 2!.. right? 🥲
@@TheGreatXeno wait thats hype af. i played both of these with an emulator but if they drop i'll pay full price for both
For me, this game was an emotional roller-coaster.
I'm playing tales of Zesteria right now and holy shit It makes me miss Tales of Xillia 1-2. I honestly would'nt mind a Xilla 3.
Same, depends on how many of the originals they bring back and the new characters(?) and story, but I would definitely want a 3rd one
+Mangomiamuffintia 88 If they do make a 3 i want it to be about the Chimeriad. Just wishful thinking lol
so like a prequel to 1st xillia? interesting.
I'd be cool with a remaster collection
Tales of Xillia 1 and 2 need to be released on modern consoles.
Should do both packaged with Grace's F
just like vesperia right?
Tales mega collection when, Namdai?!
So a doctor, chef, and a spirit enter a train...
after all those years I still want a part 3 :( the Happy Ending Jude and Milla deserve
I don't believe it was video before 11 years the quality is awesome
The animation when the action starts is stunning. Ufotable can be such a beast at animation when they want
Um which is always these days
The animation of Ufotable is so fucking amazing

Lot of people give hate to Elle, which for reasons I can understand. Personally I loved her and grew a very quick desire to protect her.
+The Forgotten One finally, someone who have the same opinion as me..I really love Elle tbh..the instinct to protect her just kicked in when i played the game~~
ayieKresnik
Right? I was like "SHE's MINE! In a semi-half literal sense.... alternative wise.." I still love her. I love Julius though too, but I had to protect Elle...
The Forgotten One with Julius, although the feeling wanting to protect him is there, but, in my mind he is a very capable big brother, I will protect him if the situations demand it..but between him and Elle, I will jump and protect her first~~ then Julius and Rollo..that damn flubby, cute, white cat..
ayieKresnik
At first I thought Rollo was Origin, because he was always following us around and I thought he was judging us.... I was so wrong...Lol
*****
I agree, I thought she was annoying little kid at first, but like after a few skits with her I just grew to love her and I usually dislike character like hers.
Xillia 1 remaster has leaked! Now to hope for Xillia 2 remaster to become a thing ASAP
the definition of underrated
Ludger...most kick-ass character in the Tales of Franchise. Did you see those moves.
Lol, I definitely agree, but I prefer Gaius
Rita Mordio is the best.
Velvet of berseria seems very :O
Like a 7 kill streak in one combo. Ludger has a deep hatred for them secretly
No say for Lloyd, Luke, Yuri, Asbel, or even Jude?
Lowkey one of the best Tales games in the series. If OG Xillia and Vesperia didn’t exist it would be the best.
Did you even play the damn games before spouting this crap? o_O
So are you telling me that these characters just aren't allowed to have ANY kind of happiness because it doesn't jive with your own sense of realism?
Just minorly altering the dialogue doesn't cut it I'm afraid.
holdingdegree9 Again, you're not wrong. I agree that they made it kinda shitty in how they implemented "choice" in the game and it felt like the writers were lazy there. I was just analyzing it from a literary standpoint (as if it were a book), and only taking the final product of the story sans everything else.
I agree with all your points, and it makes Xillia 2 an overall worse game. I was just hoping to clarify some of OP's statements.
I think X2 would've been better if it were linear so at least we would have a clearer fleshed out story instead of a "branching" one that has no player driven consequence.
If X2 were a book/show with a good author/director, I believe my merits would be valid. Sorry for any confusion duder ;w;
久しぶりに見に来たけど、やっぱりエクシリア2は最高です…
I'm still amazed at the fact that the two last major antagonist became party members
Supposedly they were intended to be playable in the first game (possibly only for certain sections) but it was cut due to the rushed development
Sounds pretty good, I can't wait to convince myself :3 I hope you're right, it would be so awesome >.
One of the criticisms I heard about ToX 2 was the re-use of areas without much in the way of new ones.
Tales of Vesperia is not even in the Top10 of Tales of.
1:37 - THAT'S HOW REAL TRANSFORMATIONS WORK!
Not those years long sequences one might know from magical girl shows.
Mahou Shoujo logic: Dancing around like an idiot with sparkle particle which takes forever to finish. The enemies are like "Ummm, are you done yet?"
Shounen Logic: a transformation was so intimidating that blew up his surroundings which only take 5 secs at most.
The kresnik transformation stops time for a while so they can transform, or at least it did the first time ludger used it.
Since Tales of Zestiria X got anime and game. And that should Tales Of Xillia get a Anime too (my opinion) 😆👌
Just think of Velvet as Milla with black hair.
Yaldabaoth owh, tjat would be Awsome
Nah, whenever I see Velvet I see Jude's head on Milla's body. It's creepy and unnerving.
Yaldabaoth that's true.
They might have finally hooked up.
テイルズシリーズで一番成功した作品だと思う
今までにないじぶんでセリフを選択したり複数のエンディングなどとても面白かったのが記憶に残ってる
Hey guys the confirmed release date is August 19 for NA and August 22 for EU:P
Awesome, just a few days after my B-day
And the CE is freaking glorious, Getting 2, just because I know that I'll want to use the Rollo Plush keychain and the pocketwatch...One has to stay nice... Maybe I'll make the two Ludgers into Milla's twin-mans o_o
I wish Xillia 1 and 2 get a pc port. My PS3 is at its last leg. Although Arise has more fun gameplay, nothing tops these two in my heart
Just finished the game!! it was awesome, definitely going to buy Xillia 2
同じ感性の方が沢山いて嬉しい。
あゆの歌と映像がマッチしすぎてて何年経っても、このOP見るだけで当時の感動した気持ちに浸れますね🥲忘れられない作品ですね。
I have to say, I liked this game even more than I thought I would. The story, the addition of ludger to the already great characters from the original game and the fun gameplay make this an amazing game. It might even be up there along with tales of the abyss as one of my all time favorites.
This is the most depressing of the Tales games. I still loved it, though.
+chapachuu Wtf do you mean by that "Depressing" xilla 2 is one of the best
+Rifqi Hanief yeah I accidentally got the bad ending and looked it up later
ヴェスペリアみたいにリマスター出してほしいな。1と2セットで。もうエクシリア2も10年以上経ってるし…
I need both Xillia and Xillia 2 remastered for modern consoles and PC. More ppl deserve to experience 2 of the best Tales of games ever
2019 and Ludger is still the most broken character in all Tales of. Let's see if that changes in 2020 when Tales of Arise comes out.
Ok, I can say that Ludger is freaking broken, but Elize, Gaius, linked Jude and Milla or even Leia are so freaking OP
@@javitelee9562 the most broken tales character in my opinion was jude xilla 1snap prviot was the most op move in tales
Alphen : ,,consider yourself finished"
greatest video game opening by far... great vocal, amazing visuals and perfect animation
I miss this game. Both 1 and 2. They need remastered for ps4
And pc
For real! With how well Arise did. It’s almost granted as it will be the easiest to do. All they have to do is sharpen the graphics. Be cool if they add the Japanese voices as well. I could definitely see a xilla 1&2 combo pack in the future.
分史世界が割られる時の無情さ、虚しさといったら今でも鮮明に蘇って来る。それほどの作品だったんだろうな
Wow, Jude looks like a total badass in this XD I can't wait until this is released in NA
