The Doctor's age is a confusing subject. At the start of the 2005 series he claims to be 900 while at the end of the original run three regenerations before that he claims to be 953. As of where the show is right now we're supposed to believe she's over two thousand probably by a few centuries, but without spoiling anything its also possible that she's tens of thousands or even millions of years old. But the general consensus up until some recent developments was over 2000, under 3000. Ignore the line about the Doctor being trapped for billions of years, in the context of the episode it doesn't really affect is age on a mental or physical level.
Actually, yes. There have been so many known faces in Doctor Who. Even the ones who hadn't been famous during that time. Like Andrew Garfield was in two episodes, along with famous actors like Helen Mcrory, Michael Gambon, Ian McKellen. Maisie Williams was there too. Game of Thrones and Harry Potters actors mostly.
Haha, it's not just cameos. It's more centric roles that also get paid off in future episodes. Doctor Who is written quite brilliantly. Michael Gambon actually had a pretty solid arc that also helped the Doctor's character nice forward with just one episode. There have been tons. Glad you enjoyed it.
very late, but regarding the age of the Doctor, no-one really knows, not even the Doctor I believe. Whenever they regenerate, there is a chance that some memory leaves them and ik some iterations of the Doctor has forgotten their age. But I don't think knowing his age is needed, all that's needed to know is that the Doctor inside is fathomless. They've experienced things no human and quantify, have become things that no ordinary being could even begin to describe. The Doctor is a being so impossible, yet they contradict themselves as they diminish themselves into something more quantifiable. Of course, no mask is ever perfect...
That clip near the start says the doctor is 900 years old but that's from 2005 so at the moment it's been said that the doctor is well over 2000 years old
Well that’s what he thinks in the clip where he said he was 900 years old. he’s only counting from the 8th doctor to then as he forgot how old he was as the 8th doctor so he just decided to start counting all over again, so he is 100% A LOT more than 2000 years old by now he’s probably nowhere near 2000 anymore 😂😂
but how long is a year? Every planet has a different length year so he could be counting years spent elsewhere. He could be counting the years he turned up in too. Travelling in the tardis he might spend minutes in a trip somewhere not even involving time travel while earth ages thousand of years as per relativity theory.
yeah, the show is currently on the 13th doctor - which is the first female doctor, portrayed by jodie whittaker (she's the blonde one at 3:04 for example). many british actors appeared on doctor who at some point - some even a few times... even for different characters :D peter capaldi (12th doctor) was in the show in the 10th doctor era, playing a totally different (side)character for one episode. he was also in a season of "torchwood" - a spin-off series of doctor who. fun fact: "torchwood" is an anagram of "doctor who" ;D
During the david tennant era (the ratings and popularity high point) there were 3 spin offs, a more adult show called torchwood, a slightly more childlike show called the sarah jane adventures and a behind the scenes weekday afternoon show, the name of which I can't recall ... at the time, the show was everywhere, with merchandise, appearances etc (it's also the start of when the cast and crew began attending comicon in the states) . There were even live classic music concerts at the Albert Hall featuring the (wonderful as u will find out when u start watching) music of the shows composer murray gold, with giant screens showing clips and monsters from the show walking around the audince.. the show was so popular back then that when it was off screen, the BBC tried to replicate its early evening "for all the family" shows success with similar shows like robin hood and merlin, and even ITV (the bbcs main commercial competition) tried to get in on the act with a show called primeval that featured dinosaurs appearing in the modern day and being battled...again this was scheduled at exactly the same time and day of Dr who... its worth mentioning to you, that if u do intend to start watching the show, it's best not to watch too many of these compilation clips on TH-cam as they do contain spoilers from the show... for example when u start watching the first, christopher ecclestone season, part of the mystery is where he is from and where his people are... both of which have been answered In the 2 videos u watched... finally (sorry about the long text!) The show has always featured famous guest cast members (even in classic who) and not only up and coming actors feature in it, well established ones do as it's considered a bit of an honour and also it's shown in hundreds of countries round the world (you'll even spot some well known American actors later on..) the 50th anniversary special episode ( back in 2013) was in the guiness book of records for the largest simultaneously cast show in history and was broadcast at the same time throughout the world (early in the morning in places like america and Australia) and also in cinemas across the world...
How old is the Doctor is a hotly debated subject because the show contradicts itself. In short nobody knows for sure, likely including the Doctor himself
In fairness it was pretty consistent up until 1989. It's really just the revival that threw a sonic into the works. I like RTD's explanation that there was so much futzing about with the Doctor's age via Time War combat that he just made a vague guess of feeling about 900 afterward.
@@ToddReacts "Fan speculation" is a subtle way of putting it. Who contradicts itself often. This is especially true since the expanded media branched out in 50 dozen different directions with no one checking to see if some obscure comic strip in the 80s said something different than the novel we want to write in the 00s. But even the show isn't above contradicting itself. Within the span of two Doctors, there were three different explanations for the sinking of Atlantis. So there's, at best, only a foggy idea of what counts as "canon," and it's usually just, "Eh, pick what you find most interesting and ignore the bits that say otherwise."
@@flaggerify I would say start from season 1 of the new series and then later go back and watch from season 1 of the classic series. While the first ever series has some really great stuff, it comes with a lot of challenges that more suit someone who is already a fan. For starters, a lot of the early episodes are still missing so there are gaping holes in the story. The writing of especially the female characters is... Not always great. Barbara is amazing (albeit it, they do still try to make her the damsel in distress a lot). Susan though is pretty horrific. Most of her scenes are her screaming constantly. Ian is pretty annoying too at times. The stories are also generally much slower than modern stuff. Some are creative and keep up your interest. Others drag to eternity. The budget is obviously tiny too and you have to be willing to overlook that. Then there's how available it is. It's way easier to watch from the start of the new series. It's a lot harder trying to go through the classic series, what with different availabilities in different regions. And with trying to find animated version of missing episodes.
There are so many ages for the doctor that everyone agrees he's been lying since the first time he mentioned his age or is just picking and choosing calendars and when his age should be added to or ignored depending on what he's been doing
The doctor is not importal if a timelord dies the regengeneration process starts and by the time it starts the old body is dead and if said timelord gets killed again during that process then they die permanently
