I start off with how I discovered the career and my educational background, then I read a little bit of my personal statement and I finish by explaining other reasons I am excited about dentistry. Dentistry fits so well into goals for all areas of my life because of the flexibility offered. I hope this is helpful!

I love how you talk about the artistry of dentistry! It's definitely something I've never thought about as a patient!

Yes! There are so many details with the anatomy of the tooth that you take for granted as the patient when they’re asking you “does your bite feel good?” after a filling!

Do you feel that graduates from UofM had a better chance at getting into Michigan's dental school compared to State graduates? I'm currently a high school junior in michigan and in the process of choosing an undergrad, and was wondering what your thoughts were.

From what I’ve been told, they accept the same “ratio” of students from all in state colleges. Not because they have to, but because that’s usually how it works out. For example, a smaller college like Hope might have 20 students apply and they might accept 2. Whereas a large university like MSU probably had 150 apply and they might take 15. University of Michigan has an even larger applicant pool but they accept still a similar ratio of students. I personally wanted to go to MSU instead of Umich because I knew I would have a higher GPA here while still being academically challenged and having all the pre-dental resources I needed. Having a higher GPA at a still well respected school than I would at a slightly more challenging school like Umich I believe is one of the factors that got me accepted. It’s truly hard to say though because no one really knows what happens during admissions decisions! They consider so many things!

Hows it going over there? At Creighton we are on campus but with many distancing precautions

D1s are split in half. Each half gets to be in sim lab twice a week for 3 hours at a time! The rest is online classes!
