That was really simple. Thank you! You and MD have quickly become my favorite TH-camrs for not just the content but for the honest videos you put out. Nice work yet again!
I really wish Fluval did FX compatible external heaters. I've been forced to go with internal Fluval E series heaters on my new big tank because I'm running 2 FX2s. If they make an "FX2 thermo" filter (with the heater on a separate plug - I want to be able to run my Inkbird controller) or an in-line heater that's compatible with the FX tubing I'd have spent the extra money.
you're like the best teacher ever. XD So, laid back and relaxed while explaining some pretty complex stuff. I look forward to you showing off the pond section! ^>^
Hi matt A great how to video and thanks to your channel and marks md ive got back into the hobby. My mrs has said once we move as we have to love i can have my dream 6ft tank that ive seen in maidenhead aquatics Birmingham and i will be getting the fluval fx6 external and i will be getting this great uv clarifier. Please keep these great videos coming. Peter from Birmingham
Hey Matt! Can you do a video on lighting and lighting timers, how long to have them on for, how bright your lights should be and what you do so the light are on while you’re home as opposed to on while at work. Thanks!
Matt you’ve done a stellar job releasing this. I have mine pre ordered and also use an fx2. Great to see you explaining everything and seeing it fitted is really helpful. Cheers
So happy to have found your channel! This video was just what I needed this weekend! But I made a BIG mistake and ended up doing an impromptu water change as I forgot to take out the output hose from the tank and had water everywhere!!! I'm telling for hubby to bring me a pot or a bucket or something and he brought me a cereal bowl! Lol anyway, my fluval in&line clarifier is now properly installed and 8 looks forward to great results!
Thanks for another great video. I love how you keep it very real with the mistakes and you don't cut it out of the video. I love how you explain it while you're showing us. Super helpful, I love it.
Just love your posts and the way you are not afraid of making fluffs or mistakes and showing us - because this is what happens to all of us. You’re such a great chap. Love the information you share with us and make us all feel it’s OK to make the occasional blooper. ❤
Bravo Matt, I have the older version Fluval on my 36 gallon and was considering this one for my new 40 gallon I'm putting together... Tell Fluval you made them money by making up my mind on this product... They need to start Sponsering you... Love your channel brother and am excited about the new things coming soon with you and MD... Cheers from San Antonio Texas... 🍻
From research, a clarifier is low wattage as it can't achieve the levels of sterilisation that high wattage units need. Equally in turn that will by why the bulb can run for so long (its not working as hard so use's less heat and won't burn out quickly)
Although I probably won't use a UV sterilizer, I do love Fluval products. I always have some Bug Bites for my fish, and I've got a couple Fluval hang on the back filters that I think are great. Also, I would absolutely love to see your pond! I've done my first pond this year, and it is just as fun as my aquariums.
Matt you are an inspiration good sir :) I wish you and the family well. Cant wait to get my new 90cm tank it will be my second tank and I am really looking forward to the joy it will bring :) In the mean time I have plenty of your awesome videos to study :)
Very useful video Matt I’ve been waiting on these being released for ages! Called my local Fishkeeper shop and they had them in stock so I’ve just fitted one to my FX2 and it took 10mins (with no instructions 😉 ) thanks for your guide.
First time viewer & I subscribed as I found your video easy to watch and informative. I've been running the original Fluval UVC clarifier on a 307 and now a 107. It's been amazing and as you indicated, has made maintenance ssooo much easier. It's almost 2 yrs old now and have been wondering what I would do to replace it. You have me convinced. Thanks for a great, informative video. Tom from Minnesota/USA.
Matt, love your videos, ive watched you from the very early MD days and also follow MD, this UVC is the best one ive used, ive used their older model and also used Oase's one aswell, cant remember the name of that one, but i always got algae on all the glass and plants etc, ive been using this new one now for almost a month and not a spot of algae anywhere and ive even upped the light output aswell, i highly recommend this product, keep up the good work
was just looking at these at my local maidenhead in newcastle yesterday for my african malawi tank thanx for the vid matt i will defo be investing in 1 on my next pay day 👍
I do enjoy your satisfied exclamations of achievement when you work out how it all fits together, having discarded the instructions that actually show you how it all fits together. 😂😂😂
I'm from Sarasota Florida, isn't everyday in England "a disgusting day"...? I've never been there so I don't know... Thanks, keep up your awesomeness and go enjoy some nature today...! Also, don't forget to compliment someone today...
My $40 UV unit has made my water crystal clear and works great compared to what it was like before I installed it. Not that the water wasn't already clear and satisfactory. I just wanted to see if a cheap unit would actually work or not. I wasn't disappointed because my water is absolutely crystal clear now.
I have a fluval 407 on my 65 gal. I agree a slower flow for uv is better. What I just add a slow flow canister (90 gph) with a built in uv light to the set up? Will the small canister turn over the entire tank for sterilizing purposes?
Some HoB are integrated with UV lamp they can be useful for aquarium less than 100 liters for larger appliances I agree with you since the amount of water wouldn’t be enough
Your "Hey Google" set off my bedside Nest. That's never happened in all of my years of owning one. Kinda startled me! Hearing the male voice of mine and the female voice of yours speaking the same words in tandem was kinda funny though.
@@FishShopMatt Ha yeah, it's never been a thing before. I think most people use other devices really, and if they did have a Google they usually use "Okay Google" instead.
i buyed somekind of cube that looks like inside of a catalysator and that one cleans the water to crystal clear and i dont use UV/UVC at all, i also have been trying to get my tank natural as in real life, like how the fish live freely and my fish doing great so far. you dont need expensive equipment but some people want to do it different and that is all fine :)
I know the cubes you talk of and have used them before with fairly decent success. Your last part is so true you can keep fish in whatever way you see fit as long as the fish are happy! You can spend thousands or pick something up for free as long as you enjoy it and help others succeed that's what counts!
I have the 07 clarifier. From what I understand since the bacteria is not in the water column, it won’t cause issues. I turn mine off for 24 hours after I add any stability after water changes. So far so good.
Matt - Thanks for the review of this product. I saw someone else on TH-cam who lost fish after installing this on their aquarium. I noticed the old model fluval had a timer feature which seems to indicate you should only operate it for a certain amount of time each day. The unit you installed doesn’t have this feature. Now that it has been a few months since installing it, what have you noticed and are you satisfied with the water quality and overall fish health? Ready to pull the trigger but the one negative review video I watched has me concerned and I don’t want to injure my fish. Thanks in advance!
Pretty gross here today too. Tropical Storm just hit and it's making me think it's time to start putting my heaters back into my tanks. I also think it's quite funny you asked Google how many hours in a year and then did the math instead of asking how long 20,000 hours is in years.
I don't know why I thought it had a pump on it. However after seeing you installing it on the outlet seems like I was wrong. If I'd like to have it in my sump I should do the same process, right? Pump -> UV -> Tank.
Hi Matt, I've never used UV before. Will this help with the hair, black beard and green spot algae? My waters clear but got algae on plants, not masses but enough to annoy me 😂
A little bit but it will only kill what passes over it. For the algae you speak of it would be worth looking at nutrients in your water or possibly lowering the lighting and feeding regime
Hi Matt, new subscriber, found you from MD. Great product review. Question - do you think it’s worth running a UV on a Cleair setup for fresh water trops?
I swear by the 1st UVC from the 2 + years I've been running it. 24 7 on newer setups and I have been unable to grow algae period. Great for Aquascaping, not so much for shrimp tanks 😂 lol
Just a thought you an md should put q r codes on your fish tank builds in your shop that way your coustmers can watch the builds if they don’t already know plus it could draw more views to your channel.
I am getting ready to set up a 3rd tank, and was thinking of getting my filter for it early and adding it to one of my established tanks to help speed up the cycling. Do you think this will work?
Noted, UV sterilizers can help if I have to battle major yuk! If I may ask, as I'm getting back into the hobby I'm thinking if I use an internal filter it's like insurance because I can't cause a flood. Is this a poor choice because online everyone seems to be using canisters? Hope you get a sunny day soon!
Of course you can ask, nope internals can be good just pick the correct one. Personally fluval and oase tend to be my favourite internals but it does depend on the size of aquarium.
Yes definitely time they brought out a external Heater🤷there is one I’d advise staying a way from.a Chinese one of course had two both lasted 3 days ? (Money back) one tip though if using an external Heater is turn it OFF if removing your external filter for maintenance 👌🏻as these like to work with water running through the Heater unit..

Yes!! Please Fluval an inline heater for the FX filters would be amazing!!
Green leaf aquarium has a Co2 reactor u could use.
Thanks for the hey google.... my phone replied too... scared the Fluval outta me 😂

Pro tip: unless you have an active problem keep your uv on a timer. Saves bulb life and still works to keep the bacterial haze away.
