love the way he looks over at her...all proud...like "she's about to tear this song up!"... I have such goosebumps. The blank stares off into space. The talented band! Wow!
Either those notes are just on the very edge of his vocal range, or he's the best emotional singer I've ever heard. Either way, that was amazing. The slight cracks and straining to hit the high notes fit the song perfectly. Both singers were incredible, and let's not forget the band doing a fantastic job backing them up.
Both, his range is insane but hes also singing with a lot of emotion here. When he's harmonnizing with her hes in falsetto and then the one time pulling chest pretty damn high for a guy. Id be interested to see his entire range because im sure he can hit some lows as well.
Sometimes too singers will purposefully go 1/64th (or smaller) flat or sharp in order to bring a certain tone of emotion - when you have the kind of comfort and control of the vocal instrument like Charles and Maiya have, it's a really effective device
Very edge of his vocal range? Damn. Falsetto isn’t in the vocal range per se. It’s just hard to centrol breath during falsetto when you “jumped” there from a low key.
Maiya is amazing with PMJ but the reason this cover is special to me is as much this band and arrangement as it is Maiya. I prefer scary pockets and stories to PMJ.
I love how powerful Maiya's take on the song is. So nuanced and perfect that Charles had to break character and just appreciate and groove with it. And Charles's interpretation is flawless as well.
Charles at 2:53 is EVERYBODY right now! The lyrics of this song blow me away. Dude is in essence saying, "Yeah I'm not really emotionally here in this relationship, and I'm SO glad it's over, but you just ghosted me and I thought I'd remain somewhat important to you." Wow the ego!
I hadn't recognized how exposed this song is. You have to be so strong, confident and emotionally stable to step into that space and fill it. You two are amazing. Got me thinking me and my brother could do this.
I'd like to LIKE this again if I could. I saw it when it first came out, as as I'm watching the new Stories uploads (THANK YOU!) this showed up again. Rare beauty here.
Brooo the guys voice is and the instruments were on ,so didn't sound like it worked but u listen to the vocals in areas and it alllll just melts together. Rendition was massive great , alotta work put in . Wickid
I just saw this...my fingers are shaking as I type this comment. You took a beautiful song & made it cathartic. I don't think I closed my mouth the whole video. Thank you for such an incredible share.
Great cover. Maiya's voice was amazing. Charles was pretty darn good, too, but I would have liked to hear him belt out some of the parts where he was singing falsetto. That could be mind-blowing.
Now and then I think of when we were together Like when you said you felt so happy you could die Told myself that you were right for me But felt so lonely in your company But that was love and it's an ache I still remember You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness Like resignation to the end, always the end So when we found that we could not make sense Well you said that we would still be friends But I'll admit that I was glad it was over But you didn't have to cut me off Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing And I don't even need your love But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough No, you didn't have to stoop so low Have your friends collect your records and then change your number I guess that I don't need that though Now you're just somebody that I used to know Now you're just somebody that I used to know Now you're just somebody that I used to know Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over But had me believing it was always something that I'd done But I don't wanna live that way Reading into every word you say You said that you could let it go And I wouldn't catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know But you didn't have to cut me off Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing And I don't even need your love But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough No, you didn't have to stoop so low Have your friends collect your records and then change your number I guess that I don't need that though Now you're just somebody that I used to know Somebody (I used to know) (Somebody) Now you're just somebody that I used to know Somebody (I used to know) (Somebody) Now you're just somebody that I used to know I used to know, that I used to know, I used to know somebody
I love this so much. She stole the entire performance and he seems excited about it!!
1000%! So awesome
She hit a blue note and you could see it sent a chill up his spine.
Meta Smith I don’t even know what a blue note is but I felt that spine chill too 😂😅
So true, and that makes it even more enjoyable to watch as you can observe n feel it all.
She's fantastic. He's wonderful. She didn't steal anything. All was as should be.
You know you are listening to something special when the guy is nailing falsetto soprano notes and the woman is hitting high tenor.
love the way he looks over at her...all proud...like "she's about to tear this song up!"... I have such goosebumps. The blank stares off into space. The talented band! Wow!

I've never seen Charles or Maiya so vuulnerable. It's almost painful to watch them.

the band is the warm hug around the breakup ... it the sauce on the plate... its the stomach of the beast
That woman singing made me jump out of my seat. What a take on the song.
She's incredible. Damn. As soon as she opened her mouth I was like O_o
Can’t go wrong with Maia !
Maiya is amazing with PMJ but the reason this cover is special to me is as much this band and arrangement as it is Maiya.
I prefer scary pockets and stories to PMJ.
Sensational. They both are, honestly. What a fantastic cover.
look up her cover Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Soul Green Day Cover ft. Maiya Sykes brought me to tears.
This lady's voice truly has the abliity to tell stories with her singing...bravo..
I love how powerful Maiya's take on the song is. So nuanced and perfect that Charles had to break character and just appreciate and groove with it. And Charles's interpretation is flawless as well.

These two together are magical, I love the harmony.
Their harmonies are out of this world. Too many singers battle when they need to blend, wisdom here is out of this world. Fan forever.
Thank you for not having them stare into the camera. It is so much better when you let the song tell a story. This is a great performance.
Did anyone else get the shivers? This makes the song much more serious.
The chills bro lol
Defs goosebumps
This song lacked NOTHING. So rare a cover rivals the original 😍
I agree, my friend. 😄
Her voice. The passion. This is soul music
That was beautifully done! Shivers down my backbone!!!❤❤❤
Her voice is butter. It was an A performance already but then she opened her mouth and....damn. Just damn.
charles's reactions from 2:47-3:00 are precious. it was tottaly me vibbing haha
OMG that woman’s voice gave me chills
Omg this has made my horrific sadness so much more bearable. Thank you so much!
1:55 that key change was crazy good and so underrated.
This is incredible. The emotion in the vocals and slight spokenness of the lyrics is what this original should have been. Gonna have this on repeat.
I love watching Charles react to Maiya singing. This guy is awesome.
Love Charles' vocal. Incredible. Maiya supported him beautifully.
I am AWED by the creativity, and I bestow MAD RESPECT for the work put in!
CHILLS LISTENING TO THIS OMG
I absolutely love this arrangement. They are phenomenal and Maiya's voice gave me the chills. Can't stop listening on repeat!
R&B has adorned this song so much
Their voices were made to complement one another. Beautiful
I hadn't recognized how exposed this song is. You have to be so strong, confident and emotionally stable to step into that space and fill it. You two are amazing. Got me thinking me and my brother could do this.
Those harmony voicings are A++++++++
WOW SHE'S AMAZING
Waited for the lady to sing out of curiosity. Instant reaction was like button. 🤣

Wow!!her voice and own style to the song 👍
Damn her tone is perfect!
It was like these are some smooth vocals, then it was like this is getting soulful. Then I saw Maiya and I like I'm not ready !
Chef's kiss. That was a real treat.
Brooo the guys voice is and the instruments were on ,so didn't sound like it worked but u listen to the vocals in areas and it alllll just melts together. Rendition was massive great , alotta work put in . Wickid

Y'all nailed the whole concept and execution of a fantastically quirky song. Well done, CHEERS
Absolutely loved it! It's rare that a song get me to tears, but I experienced full body music orgasm when Maiya started singing.

their singing is ethereal 💙💜
Great cover. Maiya's voice was amazing. Charles was pretty darn good, too, but I would have liked to hear him belt out some of the parts where he was singing falsetto. That could be mind-blowing.

Beautiful talented people, transforming the song into something fresh
So heartbreakingly beautiful!
Pure magic…
Now and then I think of when we were together
Like when you said you felt so happy you could die
Told myself that you were right for me
But felt so lonely in your company
But that was love and it's an ache I still remember
You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness
Like resignation to the end, always the end
So when we found that we could not make sense
Well you said that we would still be friends
But I'll admit that I was glad it was over
But you didn't have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing
And I don't even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough
No, you didn't have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records and then change your number
I guess that I don't need that though
Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over
But had me believing it was always something that I'd done
But I don't wanna live that way
Reading into every word you say
You said that you could let it go
And I wouldn't catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know
But you didn't have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing
And I don't even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough
No, you didn't have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records and then change your number
I guess that I don't need that though
Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Somebody (I used to know)
(Somebody) Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Somebody (I used to know)
(Somebody) Now you're just somebody that I used to know
I used to know, that I used to know, I used to know somebody
Artists get high on each other's flow. It's exhilarating.. Charles felt that. 😂 So good. Soooooo good.
How could I know this wonderful voice just now??? Omg, she's perfect, and him too😍
