PSA: It's very important for anyone downloading mods that they understand Load Orders and avoiding activating conflicting mods at the same time. They sound scarier than they are, most of the time READING MOD DESCRIPTIONS will tell you what they change and how to order them. It's also highly recommended while modding a lot to only activate them one at a time and test in between so if you get a bunch at once and the game stops working, you know which one is causing issues and can immediately (re)move it. - Load Order: It's the order mods are read by the game for changes. Generally the more changes a mod makes to the game, the higher you should place it in your load order. This way if other mods need those changes to work, the changes are loaded before they are so they have the right files to work with. Conflicts: If multiple mods change the same thing in the files whichever comes latest in the load order is the one that "wins" and gets applied. So if you have a bunch of mods and they all change the exact same file you'll have to pick which one you want to actually have applied and make sure it gets loaded AFTER the others. Easy example. Say you download 5 mods, and they all change a piece of armor to a different color. Red VS Blue VS Green VS Yellow VS Orange. Whichever color is latest in the load order is the one that'll get applied. You can have them all downloaded and active, and it'll probably launch the game and be playable, but the other 4 colors won't be applied or show up because they're all changing the same file. This won't happen if the mod maker(s) built the mod(s) in a way where instead of replacing the file with that piece or armor they just added in a new file that's a copy with a different color and told the game to start loading that instead. When that happens you'll be able to see multiple doing work because instead of all of them changing the same base file they're adding new files entirely, though depending on how the mods interact the files wonkiness could still happen. - TL:DR: READ MOD DESCRIPTIONS IN FULL. Pay attention to the order mods are loaded. Find a nice set of "base" mods that make changes you always want to have and keep that written down or copied somewhere or something, and then add new mods to that base one at a time so you can respond quickly when a problem shows up.

Once you launch the modded game in the vortex launcher for the first time and load in. When you want to launch the game again at a later date can you simply go to the steam platform and launch it from there or do modded games require to be launched via vortex every time ?
Nice walkthrough. I've used Vortex for Skyrim, and it worked pretty well. For BG3, the only thing I felt I wanted a mod for was to add delay action. Sometimes, I want a higher initiative character to wait and go later, after another character has gone (for combat positioning, typically) but I never found one. Haven't looked in a while though.

I am getting the "we were unable to create a working story your add on setup might be invalid the game will continue with the setup from the savegame. This is for a game that is ongoing. Do the mods only work for net new games?

No, it would still be modded. Depending on how it works this game, I have modded many other games but not BG3 yet, if there is an option to disable mods in the game then you can do that. If there is no option like that, you would just need to go into the manager and click uninstall mods. Or if you did it manually, go in and remove the mods by deleting the mod files in the games files. Just be very careful as you would have saves trying to pull files that no longer exist and can cause you some issues (thus his recomendation to back up your current saves before modding). My recomendation would be to do your vanilla playthroughs first, do what you want, then when you are ready for mods, do those playthroughs and never having to do the "remove mods" step. Alternatively, start with mods that do not affect balance and gameplay, like new faces, hairs, and other cosmetic mods, then it's the same visuals with differnet coats of paint but does not affect the game at its core.
If you are like me and installed it in another location/drive, your location could be vastly different. Go to the File Viewer, then in the search bar at the top right put in "Larian Studios". After a while, it will pull up the folder (or two if you played EA, in which case, check the saves to find the correct Larian Studios folder, in my case one had only my EA saves and the other had all my saves, the latter is the one you want.) and you can continue following the video from there. Hope that helps!
@lajahamamomo found out It's automatically set as one of those hidden apps so I just had to unhide it and it showed up, but thank you for the tip, hopefully it will help someone also having my issue with your solution to actually help👍
I was playing with a modded playthrough until a few months ago where vortex suddenly began to give me a "files were not correctly deployed" error. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why it was (I also installed the windows .Net update, but there was no change), I suspect it was a communication error between vortex and LsLib/Divine Tool. I waited for an update to Vortex to try and fix it but I am still experiencing the error. I don't suppose anyone here has any ideas?
Luckily Nexus' next mod manager, Vortex's successor, is planned to be released on Linux as well. Doesn't help you any now, but thought you should know.
@@sunbleachedangel They also won't have anything requiring scripts, because they are making it compatible for console. So no, it won't be as robust as Nexus. You are, in fact, quite wrong. It will be very limited, as any of the juicy mods will need to make use of the script extender, which will not fall under the official support.

Also, Vortex doesn't let you modify load order. It always loads in alphabetical order.

I don’t have a users folder this is my first time getting mods. Do you have to have a drive to make a users profile?
What about script extender? Is that recommended?

It's pretty instantaneous but you can also check the mod folder!

Vortex has issues with BG3 mods for some reason. BG3 Mod Manager is super easy to use.
