Failure is not falling down, it's refusing to get up. You may not have reached Katahdin, but your thru-hike was was definitely not a failure. You are very inspirational and I hope you get another crack at the AT someday.
I don't find your videos cheesy at all; they are beautiful and well-crafted. I had never heard of the Illinois trail- looking forward to to following you hiking it. Its the right length for me, maybe ill try it myself next spring! Good luck!
Considering the obstacles you had on your AT hike, I'd never consider your hike a failure. Consider it now a LASH... Long a$$ section hike, with the perks of learning the trail and meeting other hikers, and trail angels. You did good, and enjoy the possibility of picking up where you left off. I also enjoyed your series River to River trail hike, well done! Thanks for the information and videos. I might try the R2R hike also. Cheers!
Hi. Followed your AT hike and your vlog was my absolute favorite. My heart broke for you when you fell ill, and I’m sure your heart broke as well. You succeeded in inspiring many and honoring God. That was the coolest part! So glad you are vlogging again and healthy. Looking forward to your River to River vlog. Have a blast and many blessings. 😊
So glad to see another video from you. You may have not finished the entire AT but it definitely wasn't a failure. It was an amazing adventure. Looking forward to following you on the River to River trail. Keep up the good work.
I’m so glad your feeling better. Loved the video. I think camping with horses would be lots of fun. Look forward to seeing your river to river video. God bless and stay safe.
Sorry that you weren’t able to finish the AT as planned. If you find yourself hesitant about safe water on the trail - Gear Skeptic’s TH-cam channel has very comprehensive and fact based videos about various water treatments. They have helped me feel more comfortable about it.
Back at it! I really admire you for getting back into the game -- and actually, multiple games. From horses to bikes to hiking and swimming, it seems like nothing can keep you down. It's an inspiration. I've stayed subscribed, and it looks like it's been a worthwhile vote of confidence. Hike on!
Glad to see you back. I enjoyed your AT videos. I liked your video style. My husband and I have horse camped many places, but really loved the Shawnee National Forest. My sister is retired and horse camps all over the country. She has a camper/horse trailer, talk about glamping! I'm looking forward to your next adventure. Thanks for taking us along!
I've sectioned hiked most of the River to River Trail. Some parts I've hiked multiple times. Be sure to bring lots of water on the section from Garden of the Gods to Herod (I think that the town name) because there is no water along that section. Do the Elizabethtown start because the Battery Rock section is mostly 20 miles of road walking with no place to camp until Camp Cadez. The last time I was on the trail, which has been awhile, it was marked pretty well. There isn't many places to resupply. Some people try to do 20 mile days and just pack 8 days of food. I can't do that (too old). If I were to do a thru hike of it, I would have to go longer and have someone meet me with a supply box somewhere along the trail. Another option would be, if you were to go with someone, bring 2 cars and leave a car at the next trailhead and shuttle your cars along as you go. (Example - Have a car at Garden of the Gods when you get there go back and get the car at Elizabethtown and move it up to Lusk Creek trailhead) That way you never have to carry more than 2-3 days worth of food. Phone signals are much better down there than they were 10 years ago. There isn't very many thru hikers on the River to River Trail and far fewer people have made a video of it. I enjoyed your AT videos so I think you will do a really good job and I'm looking forward to seeing them. The restaurant in Elizabethtown isn't too bad and when you hike out of the woods at Lusk Creek and have to cross the highway to go into Eddyville, the restaurant on the north side of Eddyville is pretty good (if COVID hasn't shut everything down). Good luck on your trip. I look forward to seeing your video of it on TH-cam.
I checked in a horse camping trip in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. They said, “Bring a durable duffel bag but it must be limited to 70 lbs Then they allow additional for saddlebag day and defense gear against grizzlies. Having backpacked very light I laughed out loud! So yes, your tent was a lot bigger!
LAZY look,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I followed your AT hike, you did a great job. I attempted a thru hike in 2017. After 770 miles I had to stop from an injury. I got it fixed, and thru hiked in 2019, I'm thru hiking again in 2021. Your dream is to thru hike the AT. You can do it. I'm in Michigan for a week or two more. I know you got the trail figured out, but I can give pointers...... FIREPLUG CLASS OF 2019 2021
Looks like you had a fun and adventurous summer! Glad to see a new video from you and that you have recovered. I turkey hunt in Shawnee National Forest and you will love the massive trees. Be careful though, poison ivy is everywhere. I'm doing a section of the Ozark Trail near my house in October, prepping to do the whole 300 miles next year. Looking forward to your R-R Shawnee hike.
It's good to see you are outside enjoying life. Thanks for sharing some of your summer endeavors. I'm looking forward to your R to R video(s). I don't know that trail but it's within a reasonable drive from my home so might be interested in doing it in the future. Good luck and wise choice with the dual water prep methods. Good luck with the new business as well. Take care.
That horseback trip looked like a lot of fun! I don't have the time to go on a thru-hike myself, but I do want to solo thru-hike some day! Now I just go for shorter trips, but making video's about is fun! I'll sub to your channel! 😁 ATB! And stay healthy!
Hope to see you back on the AT. When you come through Waynesboro , Pa give me a shout. We would be glad to host you or slack pack if you decide to get back on trail.
I am trying to figure out how to make another thru attempt of the AT work. I am hoping in the next few years - but it won't be in 2021 unless something unexpected happens.
Not sure why you are just now showing up in my recommend list but I watched your first 3 videos and skipped to McAfee Knob (because I've hiked there and loved it). Didn't know that was the last until I watched it (I'll watch the rest later). Just have a question. Is this video mostly or all Michigan ? I thought it was the ocean and was wondering what state it was but you mentioned Lake Michigan. Beautiful beaches. It surprised me. I've camped in Shenandoah N.P. (Va.) and the Smokies (Tn.) so I knew how beautiful Va. was before I section hiked part of it. Hope you can return next year. This has not been a good year to thru hike.

Yes. Only a start. And over 500 miles completed.
