  • In this video you can learn how to create some multi layered stencils using your cricut Explore air 2 to create some awesome graffiti style artwork. Using the website stencilcreater.org as an easy accessible way to create our layers we then use the svg files to cut on the cricut. It’s an awesome website to play with and upload some family pics to create some unique art. To get that really cool graffiti effect spray paint is then used but less toxic options like paint rollers or brushes are a great alternative if you’d like to use this as a project for the kids.

      Well I bought my cricut explore air 2 a couple of years ago and its still going strong. I use it for cutting stencils mostly from 220gsm paper or thin mylar sheets. The only limitation is the cutting size if you want to make really large stencils and the software can be a bit annoying as they like to release updates quite often which it seems you can't avoid. I would recommend taking a look to see whats available in your area and if your lucky you can pick up a bargain!

      They are all pretty good and I have an older model explore air 2 which has lasted me a few years and still going strong. Stencils are usually cut from mylar or thick paper so you certainly don't need a top of the range model.

    • @WickedPaint
      @WickedPaint  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for checking out my video! Your svg should come in with the layers seperated but if it doesn't then click the 'unweld' button and that should separate everything. Then find the layer with the background and delete it. Be sure to click the 'weld' button before cutting or the cricut software does some weird things if you don't.

    Heyy Buddy, Adobe finally twisted my arm and i committed to a subscription :)

    What you recon?

    • @WickedPaint
      @WickedPaint  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Don't worry, soon you'll be making some awesome stencil art and the subscription will pay for itself. I would not recommend a vinyl cutter as stencils need something to hold them together when they are cut which is why the cricuts are good as they have cutting matts. There are other machines on the market so take a look around and see what works for you.

    • @KANIVERSE

      @@WickedPaint I watched a couple of vids on it i just dont wanna make stencils and throw em away after use as i assumed you can use much larger size stencils an a for thicker Vinyl materials, i keep you posted as i think solving this could be a game changer with your app

    • @WickedPaint
      @WickedPaint  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @KANIVERSE you can also use mylar on the cricut if you want re-usable stencils. Cuts even better then paper and the stencils will last forever if you prefer that option.

    Hey man, I don’t know if you will even respond to this but I have one issue that maybe you can help me with. When I load in my layers, they are contorted and don’t match up with the previous layers, like one section is higher than the other for instance. And so they look all wonky, but this only happens when I load them in cri it design space.

    • @WickedPaint

    • @WickedPaint
      @WickedPaint  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I had the same problem when I first tried this but adding the markers fixed that issue for me. Another thing you could try is importing all the layers into a software like photoshop/gimp to make sure they line up before you cut them. The other thing is to make sure you print/cut them at the same size.

    should have left the overspray. and also instead of the plus symbols you should have did a A up high and a E down low and left them. but cool. also if you dont have this set up you can just do the same steps and just regular print the stencils. get some cardboard paper or any thick paper and just transfer it and cut it out of the cardboard paper and make your own stencils. if no printer you could probably just trace it out on paper over the computer screen. lol

    How would this work if you wanted to do a silhouette of the image first, and then add the layers on top of it to make the colors pop. I was playing with the site last night and it only separated the colors and not the entire image for a silhouette cutout.

    • @WickedPaint
      @WickedPaint  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats a good point and this method does have a few limitations as you've just pointed out. That website won't give you the option to create a silhouette.
      This month I'm working on creating 12 layer full colour stencil artwork in Inkscape which gives you alot more options for adjustment and control. This video will be out in a week from now and what I do in the video is start with the darkest colours and work my way to the brightest in order to get them to pop.

    Great link to Stencil Creator but after you save can you use other software other than Cricut to enlarge, Im thinking Photoshop or Krita? I would like to hand cut them. Also can you make 90 x 60 cm stencils with Stencil Creator

    • @WickedPaint
      @WickedPaint  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, taking them into photoshop is great to see how the layers line up and to add a cross in the corners to line up each layer. The stencil creator has limits to the size you can upload so you can either upload the image in pieces or re-size after wards in photoshop.

      Stencil Creator is a very limited when it comes to bridge options, usually it's pretty good at hiding them beneath the layers above. The only thing I can think of is either removing the background from your image or trying another software that will give you more control over your bridges.
