      Well I bought my cricut explore air 2 a couple of years ago and its still going strong. I use it for cutting stencils mostly from 220gsm paper or thin mylar sheets. The only limitation is the cutting size if you want to make really large stencils and the software can be a bit annoying as they like to release updates quite often which it seems you can't avoid. I would recommend taking a look to see whats available in your area and if your lucky you can pick up a bargain!

    • @WickedPaint

      Overlapping is the best way as you don't get gaps between your colors if you don't line them up properly so it is mush easier. The majority of stencil artists paint this way.

      Thanks mate! Glad you liked the video. Thats a really good question and there is no number of perfect layers. If your a beginner then I would recommend starting with two or three to get your head around it and then increase detail as well as layers as your confidence grows. More layers doesn't always equal better artwork though so just have fun and make something your proud of.

      @@WickedPaint Nice tip, will do. Just one last thing, do you know where I can get that circuit software in full? I wouldn't have minded a reasonable flat fee part they're charging a subscription and the free version locks you to 20 stencils. Cheers.

      I used the Cricut explore 2 in this video so you can definitely use the new Cricut explore 3. This is also a good project for beginners as the stencils are simple and do not take a long time to cut.

    Heyy Buddy, Adobe finally twisted my arm and i committed to a subscription :)
    i got a quick question, can i use a large vinyl cutter for the stencils coz i can pay a bit more for one rather than cricut
    What you recon?

    • @WickedPaint
      @WickedPaint  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Don't worry, soon you'll be making some awesome stencil art and the subscription will pay for itself. I would not recommend a vinyl cutter as stencils need something to hold them together when they are cut which is why the cricuts are good as they have cutting matts. There are other machines on the market so take a look around and see what works for you.

      @KANIVERSE you can also use mylar on the cricut if you want re-usable stencils. Cuts even better then paper and the stencils will last forever if you prefer that option.

    Great link to Stencil Creator but after you save can you use other software other than Cricut to enlarge, Im thinking Photoshop or Krita? I would like to hand cut them. Also can you make 90 x 60 cm stencils with Stencil Creator

    • @WickedPaint
      @WickedPaint  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, taking them into photoshop is great to see how the layers line up and to add a cross in the corners to line up each layer. The stencil creator has limits to the size you can upload so you can either upload the image in pieces or re-size after wards in photoshop.

    How would this work if you wanted to do a silhouette of the image first, and then add the layers on top of it to make the colors pop. I was playing with the site last night and it only separated the colors and not the entire image for a silhouette cutout.

    • @WickedPaint
      @WickedPaint  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats a good point and this method does have a few limitations as you've just pointed out. That website won't give you the option to create a silhouette.
      This month I'm working on creating 12 layer full colour stencil artwork in Inkscape which gives you alot more options for adjustment and control. This video will be out in a week from now and what I do in the video is start with the darkest colours and work my way to the brightest in order to get them to pop.

And so they look all wonky, but this only happens when I load them in cri it design space.
