I loved ep 7. It's still so rare to see mainstream shows focus solely on the beauty and depth of best friendships between girls and young women and/or on female characters, on their background stories, self discovery, and, particularly, 2SLGBTQIA+. And I do think that there are many adults and teens that deeply appreciated the episode. Plus, the teen night-to-remember -- amusement rides, arcades, Halloween costumes -- (as an American/person living in the US) if you can't recall the wonder and immense joy that you felt about these (or merely dreaming about them) as a kid, then you're dead inside. I haven't played the game, but expect that episode 7 will prove to be crucial background information regarding Ellie's character and story.
As a queer woman, bella and storm nailed that first-love-best-friend pining that we’ve all experienced at some point in our little gay lives
See episode 7 was one of my favorites, if not my favorite. Being a queer woman myself, it hit really hard. Bella and storm’s portrayal of sapphic longing was so painfully good it reminded me of when I was in highschool and in love with my best friend until I finally had the courage to admit my feelings and kiss her. It legitimately was the best portrayal of those types of relationships I’ve ever seen. I was 14 when tlou came out, same as ellie. When I played the dlc, it was the first time I felt normal. The first time I saw someone my age have those same feelings I did. Also I had a crush on ellie back then so that made me really happy. It’s actually part of the reason I came out to my first friend a year later. That episode just made me so happy that they got it so right.
yeah i don’t trust anyone that says episode 7 is not as good as the others. it was such a beautiful episode and i understand everyone has their own opinions but it really is sad that it is so overlooked. I am also a queer woman and it bugs me that people who are straight always overlook those moments. Definitely not one of the worst episode if i’m being honest i would probably give that to episode 2 or 4 personally.
Same here! I know its my favorite even in the game left behind was so damn good I prefer it. Felt really good seeing my peoples portrayal in one of the best and iconic game ever made in history. It was very crucial to know her backstory. If anything, it was so pivotal that it very much well be the most important episode since most of the game we find ourselves traveling with her getting her from point a to point b for a very important reason that might mean the saving of humanity. I said it from the beginning. Ellie makes this game and show so interesting it really envelopes you and makes it so much better. Ellie is queen!
The show wasn’t about being gay or discovering yourself the story arc didn’t even show up this early in game bc it wasn’t that important this was filler in reality and could’ve come later same as the game tbr it kinda was just to help how they handle scenes for game 2 when it does matter and she does get to live life and find love in the crazy world

Episode 7 was my favourite episode, because we got to learn about Ellie's back story and I got to see her happy

and i disagree that it “doesn’t progress the story” because ellie is the main character and we need to know who she is and where she comes from in order to understand her moving forward
Bella can act her butt off. What an episode! Love this show, it's quickly and easily become a favorite show of mine, top of the list. They brought their A+ game.
I disagree, the story of the last episode did progress the story and the relationship and how Ellie will stop at nothing to help the ones she loves. It is also very well seen in episode 8. Also it fills in a lot of things like the pun books, the things she likes, her sexuality (if we needed to know) how she got bit. That she is fearless and can kill. Also seen in this episode. To me each episode has a story element and helps each episode to go futher. Not one episode works without the other. I have listend to each podcast after the episode and it is amazing how Graig and Neil think things through. Why this and why not this. And they love what they do, you can tell. It is a story as a whole and I am loving every bit of it. Everyone is amazing in this show! Haven't been this invested in a show for quit some time.
Listen to the podcast please, the explain the choice to have Ellie and David bond in a different way.
One last thing. Some people keep saying not enough infected and I am sorry but to me the story was never about infected. It is about humans in this awful new world. Infected are a part of it, but not all of it.
I rather see people survive and endure in this world then see infected all the time and having to fight. Plus it is more real that you do not have enough ammo or guns. Gameplay is not realistic. When you get hurt in the real world, you can't crab a medic pack and magically heal up. So having big scenes with infected cannot work every episode.
People complaining about not enough infected in the show need to consider how often they have seen fungus in -17 degree weather. The lack of infected makes sense in the last 3 episodes.

i swear to good, the concept of filler was the worst thing to come out from the anime community.
people forgot that you can progress the story tematically even if you don't progress it plot-wise
The zombies are the least interesting aspect of any zombie show or movie. They work as a sort of deus ex machina if used in small doses and finding a cure is a useful McGuffin but otherwise the focus should be on the humans. Zombies don't have interesting character arcs nor do they have to make difficult moral choices.

Bella is a fantastic actor. This one episode really affected me as a survivor of sexual assault, and I'm incredibly proud of them for all of their PHENOMENAL acting in this show. Best episode yet. Love you, bella.
same. a bit disappointed most of the talk excludes discussion of a child bride, abuse and the terror of a grown man wanting to hurt you and enjoying your fear and fight. she earned all the awards based on that scene alone. the trauma was palpable through and after

I do wish we got more infected sequences in the show but I still love it!
The thing is in the game episode 7/ left behind DLC kinda does technically take place before Ellie gets Joel to the basement of a house, after Joel was injured and fell off the horse ellie did take him to a mall first which is what triggered her to reminisce about her experience with Riley, then from there she went to the house where she posted up in the basement.

Wrong, this episode was pivotal in showing how Ellie can handle her own and this event will change her. Also Joel finally fully embracing her as a daughter figure.

I thought it was pretty good, but it's still my least favorite.

i wanted to watch this for bella but cant get past the bullshit episode 7 takes.... saying it "didn't progress the story" is so stupid what would most people rather have??? episodes like 3 and 7 that tell beautiful self contained stories that will stick with u for years or filler episodes like 4 that "progress the story" but don't add all that much thematically or artistically because theyre just setting up for what comes next

Well, that answers the question people have if they are going to actually follow the game in season 2 or if they are going to change it due to Pedro's popularity or HBO executives applying pressure to soften or completely change it in a way that defeats the story being told. The story has always been the driver for the games and the show.

I wouldn’t enjoy the show as much without Pedro unfortunately. Being completely honest. Which I think would be the case for many. It’s different when it’s a tv-show. When it’s passive viewing instead of interactive. Joel’s death might work in the game, but I’m not sure it would work in the show. They might risk losing ALOT of viewers. I don’t think I would want to continue if it he’s not a part of it. Especially if he dies like in the game. But we’ll see what happens.

Pedro hasn't chosen to leave the show it's Pedro who when asked says he believes they can start filming this year and he's looking forward to it. Everything you wrote is just wrong and not based on any kind of reality.
Here is what Neil Druckman said about the second game. It applies exactly to the next season of the show.
"Some of [the fans of the original game] are not going to like this game, and not like where it goes, and not like what it says or the fate of characters that they love," Druckmann said. "I'd rather have people passionately hate it than just be like, 'Yeah, it was OK.'"
This isn't the story of Joel and Ellie anymore. What happens to Joel is what drives the story and provides the motivations for the two main characters, Ellie and Abby. There are a ton of new characters, factions, locations and even new infected types. There are bigger roles for familiar characters and there are enough things after the Joel part that will piss off a whole new bunch of people.
One thing you can be sure of is that Joel won't show up in a later season as his lost twin brother or come out of a coma in some foreign hospital and return with amnesia. This is not a soap opera nor is HBO a Hollywood movie studio using gimmicks to bring people back. There will be no doubt as to whether a character no mattewr how big, is dead or not. They won't just disappear and return. There are some flashback scenes between Joel and Ellie in different parts of the game, but they will be the exception, not the rule. Neil and Craig are interested in telling a story, not in making a show to run for years. When they decide that there isn't any more story to tell, then the show is done and no stereotypes about money and the "business" are going to change that no matter what you think.

Can't disagree more about Episode 7. It was crucial to character development for Ellie and injected motivation and I wasn't pulled out of the momentum at all.
It’s also to further emphasize why she’s so scared to lose Joel, she’s truly lost everyone she cares about
