    Joe had to work on his knife.
    Depends on it with his life.
    He took it apart
    Cause he's really smart.
    And now he has no more strife.
    Thanks for the fun. :-)

    I'm impressed that you wear them out faster than you can lose them.

    That knife does a lot for the money! Looks like you can get them used for about $20 on ebay.

      Lol, that is exactly where i bought the green one, i paid $18. My very first Crucial came from a garage sale for $3, consequently i have trouble paying full price 🤣. Cheers

    Hi Joe! That fact that we clean up 100 year old tools that still work flawlessly is a testament to a great design. Manufacturers spend a ton of money on making products durable but not permanent. I heard that major appliances are designed to last 15 years... With our technology we can produce items that will never fail but then the manufacturers goes out of business. =) Great video! Thanks!!!

      The first time i learned about preplanned obsolecence i remember thinking "omg really?". I wish they made multitools 100 years ago 🤣🤣. Cheers

    My first knife my Dad bought me was a Henckel. I was maybe 10 y.o. It lasted till it welded itself to my first car's fuse panel. So it goes. Since then I've carried nothing but Case... following in Dads footsteps! I've never had a problem with a Case! ...Newk from Kentucky

      @joeheilm  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Case are great knives, i wish case made a multitool with a pocket clip. My older brother has Henckle kitchen knives, they are excellent. I hope all is well in Kentucky, cheers

    Hey Joe - Great repair. The building manager at my last job was with me on a repair. He asked where my Leatherman was. I pointed at my tool cart. Yes, I did keep a Leatherman on my cart. I said that would just grab my 9/16th wrench and tighten the bolt correctly. He got mad and stormed out. The next day my boss asked what happened. I told him and asked why? He said all the building mechanics were now required to have a Leatherman with them at all times. We even got random inspections and write ups if we didn't have the Leatherman. The building manager's last name was Leatherman (maybe distant twice removed third cousin of the company?). Don't know why I felt like sharing that but I always have a multitool with me.
    Great video! Sorry for a Friday Rant. Cheers!

      Hi Rob, a multitool is a must for anyone who deals with facilities...there is just no telling what you will need. Having a mandatory leatherman is a good idea, provided the company is footing the bill 🤣. Cheers

    Great to see you back Joe, I had a Victorinox Swiss army knife for 36 years, it was a 21st birthday present, I lost the tweezers and toothpick and the red plastic on one side was damaged, it went everywhere with me, then I lost or more likely I think I accidentally threw it out with a pile of trash after cleaning out my work shed, that was last summer. I was gutted.

    Good job, Joe. Gerber usually has a lifetime warranty on their multitools and will replace your broken tool with a new one or an equivalent model. I don't blame you, however, for repairing it yourself.

    Got a brand new Gerber for my birthday a few years back. Had the push buttons on the side to extend the pliers. Cool motion. I go fishing and need to remove a hook from a fish. I pop out my Gerber, squeeze my release buttons, and promptly throw it into the lake in about 40 feet of water. I don’t swim that well...lol

    • @joeheilm
      @joeheilm  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no! I lost my gerber in an uber after a night on the town...i wish i threw it in the water, that way i would think about the guy walking around with my $80 knife. 😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣

    Good repair Joe, Sometimes heating up the screw can help loosen the locktight (soldering iron, boiling water) 👍 😉

    • @joeheilm
      @joeheilm  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are so right...whatever chinesium locktight they used was tough, but the heat softened it up. Cheers

    Multi-tools are a great thing to pack on your hip. I always carry mine when its "pants season" and I have a good belt on. During the warmer months I miss it, as I only pack a knife with a clip if i'm wearing shorts. Good to see you're still alive and kicking Joe.

    • @joeheilm
      @joeheilm  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear you, some of those multitools are like boat anchors. Sorry i haven't been making too many videos. My little brother has been working on some mowers and i am trying to not get in his way. Cheers

    Scoutcrafter is so right about how quality steel cleans up. You are right about those expensive leathermans, I have a thirty dollar one and use it all the time.

    I get yelled at all the time for spending money on tools. Have found the old adage to be true. Buy once cry once. Spend the money and get the good stuff. It pays in the long run. 🍻🍻🍻

    • @joeheilm
      @joeheilm  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David, I agree 99%. This multitool gets loaned out and abused like no other; it is, to a large degree, a sacraficial time saver. I hate waiting for a contractor to walk back to his truck to grab pliers or a screwdriver....i just break out the crucial and we save time. When it comes to tools that dont get loaned out i agree completly. Cheers

    It's been a long time since this video was posted, so I'm not sure if comments are still checked. Any chance of a full teardown video of this tool? I disassembled mine and did a haphazard job documenting it and can't seem to reassemble it.

      Sorry Kyle. I still carry a crucial. Unfortunately my old crucial is a basket case. Good luck. These are great tools and definitely worth having 2 or 3, working or not. Cheers
