Emergency Exit + Regenerator/Intimidate are such great ideas and I'm ashamed I didn't think of this sooner. I'm really hoping the devs will take all the constructive criticism to heart and not just stick their heads in the ground. It must be hard to be in their position where everyone is constantly mad at them for changing things about the game, so I'm hoping they can differentiate actual constructive criticism and people angerly yelling about how their favorite Pokémon got nerfed (cough cough tinkaton).

Yeah , trying to balance a game like this must be a nightmare , and also with such a hateful , ungrateful community like the pokemon community is . Like lets just take a step back and realize this whole game is fully free , with no ads , dont need to sigh up with an e-mail , so selling our data is very unlikely , and most if not all of the people working on this game are using there free time and resources to make and work on it . Yes some of these decisions arent perfect or even good , but that can be fixed with time and willpower .

I think the main problem on why they are giving insane amounts of offensive abilities to pokemon is due to endless’ only defensive counterplay being sturdy, so in an endless context none of the other abilities matter. I think my main problem with Tsareena having Moxie is that, when combined with the egg moves between the two of them, it basically turns it into a Grass type Quaquaval. Same attack stat, Aqua Step to raise it's own speed, Trop Kick to lower attack, Triple Axel to do Triple Axel things, and then Thunderous Kick. Like okay, the kicking pokemon both have kicking moves, cool, but now they have access to the same ability. Why do we need two pokemon built so similarly when passives can make things more diverse.

    @Toadiferous 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

The thing is, there are creative Passives that you can give these mons while also achieving the same result.
Slaking would make perfect sense to get Unseen Fist as a passive. Obviously the AI doesn't ever really protect, but this would bypass that weakness while still keeping the drawback of Truant. He's a big sloth gorilla, so a fist-based ability fits thematically. I also like your suggestion of Guerilla Tactics. Both miles better than Trace.
I suggested this a while ago on the poll for changes, but I think Talonflame should get Rock Head. There's a pun in there (Roc Head, Roc = Mythical Fire Bird) while also achieving the broken Gale Wings Brave Bird spam dream. Instead, Staraptor has Rock Head as a passive. Why not Scrappy for Staraptor? The NORMAL/Flying type that was made famous for having access to Close Combat? That seems way more fitting for Staraptor, and would make Rock Head less repetitive on Talonflame.
Just a couple ideas that achieve similar outcomes while staying true to the themes and not just being broken for the sake of being broken.

    1. It fits thematically because Slaking is all grumpy that someone woke him up, and
    2. is especially useful for Slaking since it usually has to stay in play for quite a while to get things done anyway, since it loafs around every other turn. It can now use that time to stack stat buffs.

Honestly, emergency exit is seen as bad because it doesn't switch out at the end of the turn, it does it as soon as Golisopod reaches 50% hp, so the Pokemon can have been switched in, attacked and then instantly forced out again, and as things are random, Golisopod may just be your best thing against the thing you tried to switch it in against. You may have planned to first impression the target. And sometimes you can't sacrifice a teammeber either, really constricting how you build with Golisopod in mind.
Also, have fun with the engagement, also slightly the point of the comment. Hope this brings at least 1 more viewer, but hopefully more lol
EDIT: A combo you can do with Tinkaton as I still see it having value if you have the Hidden Ability is to combo it with any pokemon with Moxie or Glastrier as it has chilling neigh which allows you to still boost your attacks on kos. Also Glastrier's rare egg move is Glacial Lance which is 120 base power and 100% accurate spread move, meaning that its also great against Eternatus.

    • @INFERN0FIRE
      @INFERN0FIRE 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Which is why Regenerator may be really fun, since you can pivot to Golisopod, take the hit and immediately pivot out for basically free.

      This gives you free pivots.

The "Trace-trio" is definitely the most conspicuous case of just wasted opportunities with these passives. And aside from Trace, both Defeatist and Emergency Exit aren't even a permanent debuff, Emergency Exit even plays into Golisopods original Signature Move First Impression! I remember the main reason people disliked it is because "oh, but it can't set up because the setup would be undone when it's forced out!" well then don't set up! But anyways, good passives could totally allow players to circumvent or even profit of those two abilities (Edit: Heck, that's actually just what they did for Wishiwashi, which is arguably in the same club, it just has the benefit of being buffed by its ability but losing that buff below half HP, so they can't just Trace it away!). Regenerator is a big one, for both imo, it'd even trigger Emergency Exit immediately, OR if you want to keep them from falling into the range of their abilities, Multiscale would also be pretty good for both of them, even makes sense for Archeops, and with Leech Life Golisopod could actually heal and get back to close to full and keep it up! Truant is the more difficult ability to play around, since there's nothing that really profits off a Pokemon not being able to move every 2nd turn, but honestly, with how strong Slaking is, what it often needs is just the safety to not die during its Truant-turn, so the suggested buff from RadRed would work well for that, that wouldn't even take the passive slot, or they could give it Fur Coat for additional bulk, and have you seen how furry Slaking is? It'd make a ton of sense! Another option would be Unseen Fist from Urshifu of course, to get around if the AI is smart enough to protect every 2nd turn when it can attack, No Guard could also work to get around Fly instead... Dig can be countered with Earthquake...
Also kinda disappointing to me is Moxie on Croagunk, from what I recall Toxicroak could generally be run either way, but Moxie pushes it down the physical direction, when other mixed offensive or special attacking mons like Infernape or Pyroar got Beast Boost instead, I think I would've preferred that here as well... although imo the only one where Beast Boost really slides thematically is Infernape because it's based on Sun Wukong... Merciless definitely would be the best though for Croagunk, especially because I think Mareanies protect-move that poisons on contact is one of its egg-moves? Easy way to set up crits.
I also find it somewhat funny, they gave Rillaboom and Bulu both Grass Pelt, but not just that they also gave the only Pokemon that got Grassy Pelt before, Gogoat, Grassy Surge, so we basically have 3 Pokemon that do the same thing. Now, Gogoat as the original holder of Grassy Pelt kinda needs Surge, but for the other 2 there are other options. Like, Rillaboom fits Grassy Pelt visually, but Gorilla Tactics also makes sense! And I know it usually likes to run stuff like Fake Out, don't know if it does in PokeRogue as well, but it's for cases like this where you can just turn of passives, and if you do run it you get Choice Banded free Grassy Glide! Meanwhile Bulu... I think one of Bulus biggest problem was generally the lack of reliable Fairy-type STAB? So... just give it Pixilate.
A good ability I could see for Goodra is Water Bubble for that Water-type STAB without actually being a Water-type. I'm pretty sure a lot of people thought/wanted Goodra to either be a secondary Water- or Poison-type, and while there's no ability that gives STAB for poison-types yet, Water Bubble exists and feels like it makes sense for a snail... assuming they don't want to go back to Drizzle. Otherwise also, for Poison at least kinda, Toxic Chain!
I can at least kinda see Well-Baked Body for Pansage, since iirc there was a Baker-trainer class in BW that liked using the elemental monkeys, and also you could see it as a reference to the gym-trio who of course worked in a cafe and I'm pretty sure they used their monkeys to make like the perfect tea, so... heating Pansages leaves was kinda part of that? I guess Sap Sipper on Panpour also works potentially even better due to that, but... yeah, these are definitely questionable ability-choices... especially since part of the reason they even exist is to teach type-matchups with your starter!
On that note, I also remembered Grimer and Alolan Grimer, I don't remember what Kantonian Grimer got, but they gave Alolan Earth Eater and Kantonian didn't, which just feels absolutely unfair considering Alolan Grimer already got rid of the Psychic-weakness Kantonian Grimer has, Ground is its only weakness, I feel in terms of fairness it would've made more sense to give Kantonian Grimer Earth Eater so it only has its Psychic-type weakness while Alolan Grimer got the other passive. In a lot of cases it just feels like they saw an obvious type-weakness and their only answer was "make it immune!" whenever possible...

Btw there are a couple errors/outdated info in the sheet, one being Lokix:
"Stakeout lokix was actually an error lol it’s already been corrected to moxie"
Archeops and Golisopod are getting a new HA probably (though it's not definite, there's still lots of discussion happening and it's hard to say what the dev team is going to do with them at this point) and if they do then Golisopod will get regenerator.
    ---
Gunshoos keeping HP would require it losing its Extreme Speed egg move, and they seem to want to keep ES rather than HP.
Ribombee is losing Friend Guard but Indeedee is gaining it, so it's a net zero change in mons with FG.
Tinted lens is only going up net 2, 5 are gaining and 3 are losing, so it's not as many as it seems.

I found the note they put for Slaking justified Trace well enough: "monkey see, monkey do."
But yeah it makes less than zero sense on the other two. Completely agree that Regenerator makes more sense for Golisopod, and Archeops has plenty of abilities that could make more sense.
I'll also point out that, on the topic of changes to ability access from the main games, Regigas was given a Hidden Ability in this game - Normalize.
So if the balance team are willing to add hidden abilities to "fix" these detrimental abilities, they might as well just use that approach.

It feels like alot of the changes are made to fit more of the playerbase or devs playstyles (no hate) instead of considering themematic and more niche use abilities that make the pokemon stand out from each other. Especially in mainline pokemon where multiple pokemon do the same you'll only choose the best one(s) for it (i.e Swift Swim mons) so the passives helped make those mons more fun, they may of not been the best but they were fun to try and learn to use imo. This game helped teach me to use more bulky or different pokemon than just OP nuke damage mons so its kinda sad to see these passive changes going in that direction.

Yes, mons will get broken, but who cares? The reason I love this game is because its got so much variety. I don't want to use the same mon every run. Let’s take Slaking as an example. When unlocking a passive ability, Guts would cost less candies than Gorilla Tactics, and Gorilla Tactics would cost less than Trace. Trace would be VERY expensive so unlocking the very busted passive requires more work. Outside of unlocking more stuff, multiple passive ability options would allow people to choose how they want to play. All three example passives have a different niche. Plus it would allow ‘mons like Nidoqueen to get back flavor abilities like Queenly Majesty. In the end, you can only choose one passive ability!
As for bosses, it would choose one passive ability at random. So Slaking bosses only have a 1/3 chance to be extremely scary.

And since we're talking about possible passive changes we would like. Kecleon gets adaptability to increase its damage and well, yeah he needs it but I want to get funky with my child.
I would give Kecleon Wonder Skin or Dazzling, Chameleons are very colorful creatures, communicating their mood by the vibrancy of their colors, more dull colors representing fear or aggresion while more vibrant colors generally represent happiness or excitement.

For a couple you mentioned "yeah my suggestion would make it worse but it's better thematically" so I'll drop this convo from the balance discussion thread (since I agree with them lol):
"lets not nerf mons for the sake of theme
passives are something fun people wanna work towards that are cool additions that help the mon
would you really want to work and grind candy for a meh passive
    like i get theme
but lets also make sure these passives
    passives are worth going for
    for players
and being thematic is a cool bonus
ofc make sure the passives arent too op"
"sure but id rather passives still contribute to the identity of the mon as well"
"yes thats why we try to look for passives that fit both criteria
the issue is thats also very very limited
thats why there are so much duplicates
    bcuz good semi thematic passives

My frustration with Tinkaton losing Huge Power in exchange for Steelworker is that I'm now literally just spamming Gigaton Hammer outside of Trainer battles (where I'm alternating it with something else because I'm literally not allowed to use it in sequence).
Before today the main move I was using on Tinkaton was Play Rough, using Gigaton Hammer as an occasional nuke. That, in my opinion, was a much more fun and involved way of playing the game.
The most egregious thing IMO is that even if it's 1x Not-Very-Effective while Play Rough is hitting neutral, Gigaton Hammer is still doing 33% more damage than Play Rough ([160*1.5]/2 = 120 versus Play Rough's 90), so outside of the cooldown turn or something specifically weak to Fairy, why would I *not* use Gigaton Hammer?
This change turns Tinkaton into a boring one-trick-pony, and I dislike that.

Thanks for making this video (and the tier list one). My main thought when first looking through the list of upcoming changes was "a lot of these are boring", so I'm glad I'm not the only one. One example of a change that is more "power over theme" that rather annoys me is Vulpix's Cursed Body→Solar Power. Sure, the latter makes it more powerful, especially with Drought, but Cursed Body fits so well thematically. Vulpix has a whole "mystical" theme and feel to it, with moves like Spite, Disable, Confuse Ray-moves that are typically found on Ghost types. Cursed Body, while not necessarily super useful (especially late game when it's a lot more "OHKO or be OHKO'd"), has its place and can actually help in the early game, and overall is thematically on point.

Honestly I would like to see more weather setters, I think Drought Talonflame would be really interesting, in my head I just see the ball being thrown up and the burst of flames as this rad fire hawk parts the clouds. I think Wimp Out or Berserk would be really fun as passives for Archeops because they get going at the same time as Defeatist.
For Wimp Out, Archeops is usually fast enough to act before it gets put in Defeatist range, at which point you’ll get a free switch instead of worrying about what kind of opening your enemy will get from you playing around Archeops’ dead weight. Its Special Attack is pretty usable too, so Berserk could both sort of compensate for Defeatist and get people to experiment with special sets.
My vote would go Wimp Out. It and Defeatist make a fun personality pairing and Berserk still leaves you at 0.75x on your weaker attacking stat.

  • @snolls105

ok i love coming up with random ideas.
talonflame - reckless & aerilate make sense on it. I think defiant is also an ok option. I don't think there are any talonflame options that make me go "it must be that one."
slaking - gorilla tactics would go hard. alternatively, give it slow start. "i can make him worse."
golisopod - i like the regenerater/intimidate idea a lot ngl.
archeops - i feel like speed boost could go hard on it since high speed => faster roost without breaking the concept and this guy looks like he can run. emergency exit could also be an interesting option since it synergizes a bit with defeatist.
hawlucha - scrappy makes a ton of sense. reckless is the main alternative that comes to mind, but that ability is already splashed on too many fighting types. it would be funny if adaptability caused Flying Press to get the boost twice, but that's probably not how that works. I kinda like quick feet for it since hawlucha going nyoom is the one thing I care about with its gameplay identity. I think technician and vital spirit are also solid options. Vital spirit is good if hawlucha doesn't really need buffs, technician is good if hawlucha wants to go brr during the early game, as a single stage fighting type mon.
aerodactyl - intimidate. i'm saying that before i see what you have to say. it's a giant fuck-you dinosaur. intimidate. i kinda like protosynthesis on aerodactyl actually, since it's a distant past mon. feels a bit aesthetic > gameplay.
clefable - hear me out: guts clefable. Would it be good? No. would it make sense thematically. fuck no. Would it be extremely funny? Yes. I want Clefable to bench press everyone into oblivion.
lokix - no thoughts. technician and stake-out both sound reasonable, but your logic makes sense.
goodra - drizzle is perfect for goodra tho. that's so sad. I feel like it would be very funny but illogical to give it cotton down. "do not touch the slug." But yeah, keep drizzle. It's really interesting to have a drizzle pokemon that's not water type. If for whatever reason it's too strong: rain dish or swift swim. Just something thematically related to rain.
the crocs - yeah, strong jaw makes sense. I could see Feraligatr getting intimidate as an alternative. But, like, they bitey.
charizard - beast boost makes zero sense. charizard is not an ultra beast last i checked? I liked intimidate. not good for a x4 rock weak pokemon, but that's.. not why I'd be using charizard. if we want something else, dragon's maw seems pretty reasonable. it learned dragon breath by level up, so it's not wasted if you get bad luck with tms. gale wings wouldn't be awful if it's paired with a decent egg move, like bleakwind storm maybe? hyper cutter makes sense, even if it's not the most interesting one in the world. moody could be funny, but I think moody as an ability is too cursed for me to fully endorse putting it on anyone. mold breaker isn't a bad option, you could even go turboblaze if you want to make it fire themed mold breaker.
infernape - i don't like the idea of two starters have the same passive. Like, off the top of my head reckless is fine but not very interesting. I feel like giving it gale wings could be an off-the-wall choice that references sun wu-kong flying around on a cloud. pair it with acrobatics and it could probably cook. oppurtunist could be funny monke and also insanely strong. Infernape is a pretty solid candidate for moxie I think. Like, monke has moxie. Monke would kick you in the dick for funsies. unburden could also work. I think Victory Star would be a pretty valid choice for infernape if you wanted to give it a legendary pokemon's ability.
blissey - hear me out: bulletproof. blissey reminds me of the assault vest item because both have high special defense. and assault vests are typically bulletproof. furthermore, blissey is shaped like an egg, which is a ball-like shape, and who better than a ball to protect against balls? it's brilliant.
toxicroak - no thoughts, merciless makes sense
elemental monkeys - I feel like giving them torrent/overgrow/blaze makes the most straight-forward sense. even if it's not going to push them into high tiers of viability per say.
druddigon - my first thought is shed skin. that guy looks like he sheds.
barbaracle - my first thought was storm drain since I feel like barbacle should have a water resist or immunity but the rock typing takes that away.
decidueye - yeah, sniper makes the most sense thematically. i think if you wanted to give it a more exciting ability, maybe something like aerilate to reference it being a bird. alternatively, analytic or shadow tag. the former addresses the speed issue in a more in-character way while the ladder is kinda just since decidueye's signature move is already a trapping move, letting it do that when hitting the field might be nice.
gunshoos - i agree, no comments
ribombee - i agree, no comments
araquanid - I feel like adaptability would be very funny to use since it's already got water bubble. but yeah, unnerve makes sense and it's a really good ability because berry spam.
shiinotic - i'd give it earth eater personally. my reasoning is that I don't have many bright ideas for its ability, plants eat dirt, and it's a relatively defensive fuck-you mon, so earth eater would fit alright with its play style. pixilate also make some sense because it's a creepy fairy and pixelate is a vaguely menacing sounding fairy ability. sap sipper could also be cool since it would imply a parasitic relationship between shiinotic and plants. shadow shield makes sense because it's creepy. seed sewer isn't an awful idea. symbiosis could fuck hard if the game pushes for more doubles stuff. unnerve would be pretty valid for it, its design is meant to be a bit unnerving.
tsareena - yeah, ripen makes sense considering that its baby form is literally a berry. i feel like supreme overlord would fit tsareena, but I like ripen better ngl.
centiskorch - yeah, speed boost makes no sense. i could see it having blaze.

Triage has been amazing for them, but I really want the Oddish lines to get Drought. It would be nice to give them a very solid grass stab move in Solarbeam, activate their chlorophyll, and even power up their fire egg move of Fiery Dance. Both Bellossom and Vileplume have base 50 speed, so speeding them up to 100 really isn't that crazy.
Half of Bellossom's dex entries are about it dancing to make the sun shine, and given the fact that the entire line can learn Sunny Day, it's not out of the question in terms of lore.

My personal favourite change is still chingling getting punk rock; it has torch song as an egg move, and with this change they also added 2 more sound based egg moves; i love this so much thematically. its a wind chime after all, sound moves make sense.
For the suggested changes in this video, love a lot of them, but here are my suggestions anyway:
Slaking: i like your suggestion a lot, but just to name some alternative ideas:
No guard: mega kick and hammer arm being 100% accurate for the turns it can move would be great. Maybe we could tweak the egg moves a little even to double down.
Moody: bidoof gets this too. It fits thematically in my mind (monkey be moody) and getting free stat boosts in the turn youre loafing around makes the turn less wasted at least.
And finally, if they truly want to stick with this gimmick, id prefer giving it
Lingering aroma: it makes it so there is still a downside to the base ability, but you now do have a way of removing it. And smelly slothmonkeything is not too far a stretch, unlike trace.
Archeops: since it is a fossil, maybe you could go with wandering spirit instead of trace to remove its bad ability. It may be the lazy way out, bu5 since ut learns uturn, regenerator to be able to get yourself above 50% could be great. Though i think thematically, run away would fit incredibly well with defeatist and the ability definitely has merit in pokerogue.
I love technician for talon, but i think just thematically, with the whole recoil thing, and since basculin gets it, i think the speeds at which talonflame goes a rock head would still make some sense... more than magic guard at least.

Balance wise they've painted themselves into a hole. Endless really doesn't have room for almost anything that isn't a hyper offensive sweeper. And the only feature that pushes the game towards more defensive play (boss break bars) can be overcome by just using more damage. The heavy presence of healing berries also pushes the game towards sweepers because if you kill the enemy in one shot, those berries never kick in. Even in classic there are so many battles, and the carried over stat changes from battle to battle heavily encourage a sweeper playstyle. This heavy reinforcement of sweepers then pushes the game towards boring abilities like moxie/beastboost, and sturdy because that's what's easy for most people to use, and thus what's fun for many people; an overwhelming majority of people hate losing, and strongly prefer boring strategies if they let them win.
If the poke-rogue team wants to have a game with more variety and interesting stuff for people to explore, they're going to need to either decide that the game isn't for most people, or change the design of some of the game's core mechanics to push the game away from the boosted hyper carry.

That'd allow multiple chances to get him active on every turn without just turning the passive off, either through finding poison/burn orbs to give him or by finding Snore or Sleep Talk to teach him.

i think the fact that everything's being turned into an offensive mon is *especially* bad for what this game is. it's a roguelike. one of the main appeals of roguelikes is strategizing with what you've been given, and creating unique builds. if every pokemon plays the same, you lose that *very integral part* of its appeal.
i especially dislike them hitting the undo button for pokemon with bad abilities. characters that are difficult to beat roguelikes with are a fun challenge, that can bring some fun bragging rights. beating nuclear throne with melting would be a LOT less impressive if you could start the game out with normal hp.

Honestly I’d like to see more abilities that are a small help to good Pokémon - stuff like Hyper cutter, Download, Thermal Exchange and Water Compaction that are ‘outclassed’ by other abilities instead of slapping moxie and adaptability on everything. There is no balance to that. I also just think that nothing should get beast boost unless it’s ultra beast adjacent. Justifying it with “beast” as a word defining most monsters and animals is just unconvincing to me. Something like Competitive is more fitting for Litleo which is a great ability. I could also see Pinsir with Arena Trap instead if sap sipper / tinted lens or whatever, since the AI likes to switch so much it might be useful to trap with mega pinsir. Mycelium Might on Shiinotic - it’s already slow as hell, it might as well be able to spore through insomnia.

I'm a bit sad that sentret and zigzagoon are the same ability wise now... Sentret is now an endless god, but pickpoket was so fitting on zigzagoon

    Analytic Clefable works well kinda
In dex entries it talks about it's really good hearing and how it tries to avoid people

I personally liked it a lot more when they tried to make the passives thematically fitting, it's a mistake to make everything so hyperfixated on raw damage

tapu bulu with comatose could make sense (or any other ability that relates to laziness), as it is stated to be a lazy pokemon in its pokedex entry

I hate that they changed Baxcalibur to snow warning last change it was thick fat and I find the dragon that resists ice really appealing

I would love to see more passives tailored to dual battles, along with a classic with only dual battles.

My biggest complaint about a lot of mons losing strong jaw for tough claws: mightyena. It is LITERALLY THE "BITE POKEMON". it already gets almost every biting move, and it's a 50% boost vs tough claws' 30%
