I said it before that this is S-E at its best. Focusing on gameplay and story, being creative with the art style, and creating music that fits like a glove. This is the Square & Enix that we knew in the 90’s.
You know Sqaure is woke now right? Go check out what their Ethics Department just did to the Chrono Cross remaster. LOL try not to suck off a company before knowing what they are really about. 90s Sqaure is gone forever my dude
@Worst Case Scenario why do you disagree I was there too in the 90s but don't know much about this game
@Worst Case Scenario With you on that, 90's was 1000% better
i just wish the protag or the close friends are more evil. maybe playing too much darkest dungeon
Just started playing this game over the weekend and that's what I was telling someone else. That this was the type of game you either bought or rented on a whim that ended up being a hidden gem. Trying not play it tonight and just watch some videos so I can actually get a decent night's sleep.
Im on second playthrough and aiming for golden route..The story is really really good, i dont know how to explain it, but depend on who you gonna side with, you will feel like watching different kind of movie but with same character. And on 2nd playthrough the battle is much harder and easy at the same time depend on how much you grind to upgrade your equipment on you first playthrough.i feel like this game will end up become hidden gem like radiant historia.
I had MULTIPLE save points during my 1st play through and would go back every X path to see what another path looked like to avoid a 2nd playthrough per se haha
@@oscarore5520 the game is 100% made to be played straight through with you making different choices the second time. Kinda felt like a new game on my second run
@@sammadden5540 I feel you. I just didn't want to deal with all the prior dialogue to do a 2nd run. End of the day I felt like I squeezed out the most amount of story I could in "1" gameplay.
radiant historia is peak🔥🔥
I finished all four routes and did a deathless run at around 175 hours. I love this game a lot and would still consider playing it a 6th time this year lol.
Did you beat it hard new game + deathless yet? If not, that’s your 6th time.
ok you beat me, i played for 120h+ and only finish 2 ending include true ending. I play in normal mode, max all char to lv 50
I love the fact that each time
The game has me make a choice I need to put the game down for 20 minutes and really consider which option I feel is best. Followed by then you trying to sell it to everyone else. This game truly went above and beyond my expectations.
Not even very far into the game yet but I love how some decisions change the story entirely. I was watching a streamer and had to stop because just one decision has changed everything from events to maps for (so far) the following two chapters. Usually this kind of "decisions" at best veer off into a different path but it typically shifts back into the same or very very similar storyline. Not to mention how surprisingly unique and interesting a lot of the classes are. Constantly having a hard time deciding which ones to bring to a specific battle. I want to use them all.
I agree it’s a lot better than fire emblem in multiple ways, particularly with balancing (units don’t often die in a single hit), height and terrain effects, and the creativity of magic and ranged attacks and abilities. Fire Emblem does give more control over your units’ roles and handles certain mechanics differently, but imo some of these are handled poorly like 3H’s class balancing. However, IS should at least really take notes on how to write proper story variance because players have wanted choices that matter for a long time and they just haven’t delivered beyond easily defined route splits.
It seems you have to play through triangle strategy five times if you want to use every character at least once. I didn’t even unlock some of the other conviction based characters, so I’m excited to see if I can track my progress to get as many as possible.
I love how the game really makes your decisions feel impactful and everything flows almost perfectly even though there are multiple paths. I am in the middle of my 3rd playthrough and I will be playing at least one more time through the game, to both get all of the side stories and to unlock every possible route, as well as beat the NG+ LV50 on hard mode.
Love your enthusiasm for this game! Im about 15 hours in and cannot stop telling everyone how much Im enjoying it
Got the game, trying to finish Elden Ring at least once before I can devote my time to Triangle Strategy
Glad to hear I’ve got another good game to dive into next. Old school FFTactics fan so it’s right up my alley.
Thanks for talking about this game! I almost skipped it because I was pretty busy with work and I knew Kirby was around the corner. After hearing your praise, I decided to play the new demo and was hooked. Bought the game and I am LOVING it! Definitely my favorite strategy rpg
I couldn't agree more about to being the best representation for true gaming. How it's full of content right from the start and has rewards for the dedicated players.
With that said, I would cry tears of joy if they decided to put the cast of Octopath as DLC party members. God forbid they include small stories when recruiting them, I may die from "fanboy-ing" too hard.
You and me both😭💀
Does anyone even remember those ultra-generic characters? I honestly don't even remember their names.
@@robinmattheussen2395 H’aanit was my favourite
Completely agree with your opinions on the cast (11:00). So far, all characters have been useful in different situations, and Medina is FIRE!!!
I'm on chapter 9, and 23 hours in!
for me its not the best strategy RPG but its underrated for sure. Its a 9/10 in my opinion and I think most reviewer didn't play very far.
actually tactical RPG, as there is a difference
Yusei255 what’s the difference?
@@ssssssstssssssss strategie is sometime more real time like starcraft for example. but remove the real time element and strategy and tactic rpg are probably too similar to dissossiate.
@@ssssssstssssssss Tactics is the methodology of obtaining an objective, in this case, claiming victory in the laid out battle. Strategy typically takes longer to realize and therefor fits better with 4x games that control resources over a long period of time, without too much change. Now they aren't exclusive mind you. Tactics are used to accomplish a strategy but that being said, in a game like this... The core theme is the battle to battle tactics, not a grand strategy that fits every encounter. Adapt and overcome on a singular battle bases summarizes this game better than long term strategy. With all that said, they do go hand in hand and nobody should really be bothered so heavily to correct someone over the genre term since its so minuet. At least, in my opinion.
@@ssssssstssssssss As far as I know, Tactical RPGs are like this one: grid and turn-based combat.
Final Fantasy Tactics, Fire Emblem and XCOM are all examples of TRPGs.
This game looks amazing! I can't wait to give it a try when I get a chance.
The demos were great, made me buy it when it was released.
Honestly I wanted it to be deeper on a per character level but somewhere into my second run the late game stragety really clicked and it feels like the right amount of skills per character considering the squad sizes
I’m still on my first play through and on chapter 13 and I’m really enjoying the game. I can’t wait for another play through to see what’s different with choices.
Definitely going to be an underrated gem of a game. It's honestly getting way more positive takes than I expected from something of this genre. I was expecting a lot of mixed reviews before launch saying it's not as good as FFT or not like FE. Everything is amazing about this game. I think the people saying it has too much story need to give it a chance to get going. Once you're past the early section of the game, this really becomes a fantastic combination of both story and gameplay. The battles are balanced really well to reward strategic gameplay while also not hard punishing you for losing.
I love the story, tactics, progression, and replayability with the conviction system and the choices. It'd be nice if the characters could change classes like in FFT, but there are more characters in this with defined roles.
Do you still feel like you have enough freedom to play with character builds?
I was a bit stumped not seeing a single review mentioning FFT where I saw it really similar. Planning on getting this but if I don't feel enough freedom to play with character builds I might not.
No sponsored copy & honest opinions. Appreciate it man. Subbed!
I just started the game and i really like it so far. I think the story is excellent, and i don't mind all the talking in the beginning. It really builds the world. I saw other reviewers who talked like that was a negative. In my opinion it's necessary, in order to build the story. I think its cool getting to know all the characters. Im only a few hours in, so i have only done the first battle. But it was cool because by the time it ended i felt like i had a good understanding of basic combat. Although i know its much much deeper. And i feel like i have a really good understanding of the world and the characters. Which for me ,im glad it goes to such depths to make the game immersive. I can tell already its gonna be really good
Loved the game!!!! Got the fredrica ending my first run, going for the true ending my 2nd time thru, but grinding a few characters I didn't use in the encampment first to switch up the game play
Without spoiling the story it’s pretty deep. I was surprised that the story was willing to go there. It not a kid story. Also after the demo the amount of time spent reading versus actually playing changes. In demo it feels like you are reading so much but after chapter three which the demo ends you don’t read as much. I think it because they spend time to world build
but the end can be really reading heavy as well...at least the ending I got first.
Excellent game. Just finished my second playthrough at 50 hours. Incredibly good story, music graphics. My only gripes would be the voice acting was pretty bad, some characters were bland, and they do that bs that most JRPG's do which forces you to split up your party and use under leveled characters in the secret path. I actually didn't need to grind to win though even in my second playthrough. I never had to grind, there were so many different ways to exploit the AI, your team has so many options, I was developing strats on the fly and screwing over the AI at every turn. It felt great lol, and I had so much fun.
Hell yeah man. 120hrs and two hard-mode completions in (finally nothing left to do!) and I absolutely love this game - you're totally right about it being golden era quality, a full game with no DLC. This is TRPG heresy, but I liked this one better than Tactics Ogre: LUCT! Sounds like we had a very similar experience in that I, too, ran through this game in about a month and was totally compelled to keep playing even after getting the true ending on the first run. And I think you're totally right that reviewers playing on easy mode will just miss everything that makes the gameplay good. The only way to play this game in a way that truly reveals the real power of each individual unit is on hard mode.
I think what's so great about it is it's simplicity. Some tactical RPGs give you virtually limitless levels of customization, and you can spend hours minmaxing every single unit in every single way possible. What Triangle Strategy does in this regard is brilliant - instead of endlessly tweaking every unit, you basically have 30 units, each of which do one thing really well, and you're not gonna find another character that does that one thing better. Each character has truly unique abilities, so your team composition plays the role that endless stat/equipment/ability tweaking plays in other games. I like this approach a *lot* better, as it keeps the focus on the gameplay - the *tactics* - and not a forever-grind that eats your time.
Let's face it, we *are* old now lol, and we don't have time for that kinda bullshit. Just give us a good game and a good story and let us play!
I will say that I do have some criticisms. Several story beats just weren't followed up on, which in some cases made some of the choices feel less important than they should have (e.g. the options presented when re-taking Glenbrook). The bandit subplot was pretty much just dropped if you're going for the Golden Route, which sucked because I really enjoyed Trish and Travis. Also, the choices that you have to make to get the good ending just weren't clear enough - I wouldn't want to be spoonfed, but I didn't really appreciate only being able to know which choices were the necessary choices with hindsight. I also love the encampment, but I would have loved it more if the characters were a little more animated - it would have been really neat if your encampment expanded as your recruited more units, a la Suikoden. And, on that note, the character interaction was lacking... not nearly as badly as Octopath (another game which I love), but noticeable enough that the lack of it made me go 'huh... nothing?' a few times. Why don't Roland and Maxwell have a skit? Maxwell and Avlora? Groma and Flannagan? Groma and Archibald? Etc. etc. Lastly, I would have liked a way to recruit all units in the Golden Route for the sake of plot cohesiveness. I don't think it would have been that difficult to find a way to make this work given the number of times you visit and revisit the game's various locales.
... but even our old favourites weren't perfect :). Great review man, thanks for this!
There are a lot of things this game does mechanically that I really like. The game seems really intent on encouraging players to keep going while never making it too easy for them. Every character is unique so it's fun to figure out how to make the most of them and which ones pair well together. And you never have to worry about a character getting left behind because if one is way behind on levels just take them to a couple high level mock battles and have them perform as many actions as you can. They'll be just about caught up with the rest of your cast in one or two battles.
And if you happen to lose a battle, you get to keep any experience and levels you gained during it so you don't feel like you wasted your time. And if you're trying those few levels will make your next attempt just a bit easier, but if you're not trying to strategize more levels aren't going to help. You can't bulldoze your way through the game which I think trips a lot of people up. I just finished my first run and dove right back in to do another. The enemy encounters have jumped to my level again and it is BRUTAL. At the start of my second run I lost the very first battle THREE TIMES. You definitely can't sleepwalk through this game and I love it.
I'm on third playthrough, NG++.
Played hard the entire time. Actually did Golden Route first playthrough on hard.
First and second playthrough were considerably tougher than playthrough 3. The vender unlocks materials and rarer consumables which make the game a lot easier to cheese.
First two playthroughs they really restrict the best consumables you can purchase and the upgrade materials.
You`re right, the game is terrific. Played it at normal, which is quiet a fair challenge. The Graphics are lovely, the music mostly great. The voice acting too. Especially the narrator and Benedict. You can easily sink into this game like a dream. Thank you for your excellent review !
I just wanna say... its great to see a gamer who's in shape, who also actually gives legit perspective on the games 🔥
Thanks man. I'm a HUGE FF Tactics fan and keep debating if I will enjoy this. I just put over 75 hours into Rune Factory 5 and want another game to bounce to on the switch because I don't really play many games on it. I have the demo, but only played an hour so far. I'll have to give it more playtime.
The demo doesn't do this game justice. I almost didn't even buy the game cause of it. I will say though. the game is slow to start. lots of story before you get to tactics, but after a while you begin to understand the cadence the game offers. I quickly grew to enjoy the story breaks between fights. and the quality of life features are nice. Definitely a top tier choice if you revere FF tactics. (my favorite tactics game of all time).
If you like FF Tactics this is going to be your jam. I had to stop on just about every choice I had with even seemingly simple questions I was given answer prompts for in NPC towns. Lo and behold these choices do matter and everything is in a wider political narrative.
I can’t get over how much this games looks like an indie instead of a $60 game
Great video man. I've been watching reviews from major content creators in both English and Spanish language and I wasn't fully convinced to give this game a try. As soon as you said you've put a hundred hour into it, I was sold. The fact that a strategy game sold for the current times prices could give you that amount of playtime was all I needed to hear.
This is my fist video I watched from your channel. I'll definitely dive in into your content.
Cheers from south the river!
gonna have to get this game it looks gorgeous
I've 4 playthroughs (all endings) in about 70 hours. It's a phenomenal game, and the extra chapter is the perfect closing. Gotta find all cats, though!
This game does some things absolutely amazingly. My only issue with the game is that it has a bit to much dialogue. At times I felt like I was playing a story book with a game hidden in it. When it came to the battles though they were complex (especially later in the game) and extremely well done. Character choice is as important as the strats you use. 9 out of 10
Exactly it feels like a visual novel with battle mechanics.
I actually love that aspect of it, but get what ur saying.
I get it and agree with you in that it is like a visual novel with battle mechanics...... but i loved it, loved the story & the characters...
The demo put me off the game. I love reading, but in games I like just enough story to give my characters motivation. I’m not a fan of too much story in games. I like to use my imagination, for the story to unfold through what happens in gameplay for the most part. Straight after the first battle in the demo there are twenty cut scenes in a row taking between one and two hours to get through. I wasn’t digging the story and didn’t find the characters likeable so quit at that point and read a book instead.
@@PaulRoneClarke Totally agree. I think this is what all the great RPGs do right. They have the right balance between gameplay and story.
I'm really excited about this one. Octopath didn't do it for me because of their little, separated stories. But this one seems to have a grand, single story. Although, I'm not really into TRPGs. I like them, but they can get overwhelming for me because of all the variables they can have so, gameplay-wise, I'd prefer something like Octopath.
Great review! On my New Game+ playthrough for the Golden Route! Definitely pushed aside Strangers of Paradise for Triangle Strategy 😅
This video hit my recommended at the perfect time. This game is 50% off on Steam until March 23 of 2023. Also during that time other Square Enix games are heavily discounted. I picked up Tactics Ogre Reborn as well.
I’m not the biggest fan of this genre but this makes me want to play. It looks soooo good
This is the first video I watched of you. Seems like a genuine dood. First time I subscribed from watching the first video
Great review. I’ve been curious about this game for a while, but the passion of your review and level of detail confirmed that it’s something i have to check out
Recently got this game and am loving it. Effectively the best video on this game I've seen so far. Liked and subbed. Hoping I enjoy wat else the channel has to offer.
Just finished my 3th playtrough. Absolutely well done SRPG. I got 90 hours hahaha, great video! I´m subbed!
Really hooked, currently on chapter 12, somehow at 20 hours. Unpopular opinion, I actually like how there isn't a job system. Although my main criticism, is that I do also think dialogue can be a bit excessive and redundant at times. But yeah excellent game. Also can't decide if I wanna use narve or ezana...
Why not both?
I like the set roles as well. It likely makes the game more balanced because the devs can anticipate roughly where your levels, gear, abilities etc. are. I'm up to around the same point in the story and none of the maps have ever felt like a downgrade compared to earlier ones or too challenging without being asked to deliberately grind for more than a few mock mental battles at the bar to catch up a handful of people who need an extra level to be at the recommended one. Also I think I like ever party member because they all are unique in what they can do.
I would say FE's take on a linear non grindable approach to progression makes every decision worthwhile. It's also a lot more engaging when you're not only thinking about the current battle and how to win it but the moves you need to make to feed kills to your weaker units without having them die so on the long run you don't come to rely on only a few characters.
it's my favorite of the year! It was the exactly the cozy breath if fresh air I needed this year.
OJ! More Triangle Strategy videos! They are fantastic. I’d love a tips and tricks video to help newcomers to the strategy rpg genre.
Came back to this gem 2 years later to just confirm and "yeah" Made my top ten games of all time ( i'm 45) and this game is amazing.
I bought the game on sale not too long ago on a whim, & based on what I've been hearing I am glad I did! Haven't gotten around to trying it yet but am thinking about doing so!
I'm mainly a PC and Playstation guy, but I used to be hardcore Nintendo fan until the Nintendo Cube. This game along with Octopath and some other JRPGS, also monster hunter, are making me want to buy a Switch Lite and I think I'll get a Switch Lite soon.
Great video!! I love the way that you talk about the game!!
Ayo! I'm so so glad that you are showing some love to this game. I'm doing a let's play on this game this game and I really wish the reception was bigger because I am just absolutely amazed by this game! Hopefully the audience will grow over the years as this is a rare one of a kind game! Dedicating not 1 but 2 videos for this 1 game is it's really great to see man keep up the great job!
My copy recently arrived. Question. Three Houses seems to be overall the deeper game but it sounds like TS may be the more cohesive experience. Do you agree?
Great breakdown of the game. Couldn't agree with you more about how gaming is becoming so predatory nowadays, like it's training the next generation to become addicted gamblers. This was a real throwback and breath of fresh air. This was the most memorable tactical rpg I've played since Tactics Ogre: Knight of Lodis and Final Fantasy Tactics.
I love the Chrono Trigger in the original box in the front...CT is my favorite jrpg of all time. Great video and commentary!
Never seen your channel before. I bought Xenoblade definite edition yesterday. After watching a review your top 10 switch RPGs video came up. The passion you talked about this game sold me on it in like 2 minutes and I’d never heard of it before. Going to buy it because of you so hopefully have a great adventure on my hand
Been playing this game for a week and I love it! I'm glad this style of gaming is still going!
Dang, popped up on my TH-cam Home Page, like games and a Niner's fan. You got me. Subscribing.
Love, love, love this review. As a huge fan of Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre it makes me happy that this style of game still has an audience.
Thank you so much for the second review, it answered a lot of questions, and I’m excited to pick it up today!
After beating the game, the main introductory menu changes a bit (at least after beating it in the golden route, don't know if the other endings also "activate" the alternative introductory menu. Point is, the music Theme during that menu is among the most epic things I've ever heard on a videogame (ps: it is not impossible the music theme was allways there and I just skypped it before...)
Fantastic, I haven’t picked it up yet but it’s been getting my attention, loved your video on it man. Agree with your difficulty, if it’s set too easy, you are missing the strategy end of the srpg
I finished Triangles Strategy but only once the Roselle story line. I might come back for the secret ending... If it is significant.
I love you
Bro. When it came out I thought about you after seeing you open the box set. I loved this game. Played it through 4 times hardmode. And plan to play it all over again athousand times because this story is amazing.
you're right, this definitely woulda flown under my radar, but I'm definitely gonna get it now
Been waiting for this one for a while. Can't wait to see this come out on PS5!
Is that confirmed?
When I am watching the story I always fall asleep after 5 minutes. You just resold me the game.
glad u played it essance, i truly loved this game, got everything possible in it, hope we get another but with more robust customization
This has me so excited to get it on PC this week. Can't wait!
Stumbled on your video on my feed, love your passion brother, I'mma subscribe. 👍🏽
What I really love about this game is how forgiving it is. Not like FE or the original FFT even. That goes a long way with me.
Love this game been playing non stop since released day.
I’m on chapter 8 w/30hrs in. I love that choices really affect what takes place plus the ethical system and dialogue is fantastic. I’m pairing this w/Elden Ring and Horizon although I get to play my Switch more as a working adult.
You really hit a point with the reviewers tactics. Easy mode and rushing through does not equal a great perspective on the game. I’m guessing SMTV got similar treatment.
Thanks for such great content highlighting such an incredible and overlooked game!!!
Completely agree with rants on modern trends in gaming. I want a complete game.
Really loved this review, first time watcher and i was really impressed with everything as a whole package, can’t wait to grab this. Currently trying Valkyria Chronicles
this guy makes me reconsider this game. i played the demo and wasnt wowed. paled to octopath in my opinion. oh well, might as well check it out again if ill be convinced this time.
Im still on my first play though. I got the game day one and have been playing it on hard since the beginning.
I absolutely love this game. I know I’ll be dusting off my switch to play it when I’m an old man
Amazing game! Just finished first run through. Playing second run and making different choices which has a ton of more content as I didn’t make those decisions the first time. FFT is still my favorite, for now, but this is already a very close to favorite. We will see after some more time investment.
This is the kinda positive energy I need. Subscribed!
I was telling someone, we only get a game like this every 7-10 years
Just picked it up last night and still haven't gone to bed. Square really hit out of the park with this game. Stupid name amazing game
I am 57, played and finished the game. Outstanding game!!! Great story and characters! One of the best games I have played on the Switch. I hated Fire Emblem 3 Houses.... Loved this game!
Your passion is a pleasure to watch. This game is on my radar. You fuelled my desire to acquire it faster. 🙂
Really good review. You had a strong opinion and totally backed it up. Thanks
Maybe the best review i've seen on this awesome tactical RPG ! I love Elden Ring but Triangle Strategy can be easily missed under it. Thank you !
Man Medina I found a whole new respect on second play through once I got decimal and paid her with decimal and Julio.
Best srpg I've ever played in over 20 years of srpg games.
I still don't have the heart to try the path of getting right of Roland I don't wanna sacrifice a friend hahahah maybe next play through. 😅
I love the look of this game, it reminds me of Vandal Hearts for ps1. Its full of style and atmosphere.
This is a very good video I can see the enthusiasm and it’s swinging me towards getting the game. i did enjoy the demo they released a while ago and absolutely love complete games without DLC. Still playing Octopath and I always got a lot out of that. Thanks!
Now playing on my Quest 3! Loving it!!
Solid review! I have to admit I really been enjoying it. Great game to take your time with. Really does remind me of yester year styles. Worth it totally in my opinion.
Agree with this review, am 15 hours in and am loving the story, only thing that sort of bothered me was how long the conversation/notes/ etc....were. Another note as of 15 hrs in, personally wish their were more battles, more ranks, and more opertunnities for searching for inventory items.
First time viewer. Great video! Now, I have to take a look back at other games you’ve covered. Keep up the good work!
He’s awesome I’ve been watching this channel since 2014
Great point that you don’t have to grind. Nor do we have to read anything. I was surprised how much I am enjoying the game.
I returned Gran Turismo seven and exchanged it for the game I should’ve bought that weekend, Triangle Strategy. It has surpassed even my best expectations, couldn’t be happier. Bummed I couldn’t enjoy both though.
Do your choices have an effect on the narrative? I’m interested in the title but have had to take a break from games for a while. I’m hoping to get back in soon and thinking about what to play.
Essentially yes. I believe there's four different endings and your chosen route for the story determines where you end up. And what battles you have, particularly in the final stretch, will depend on the routes you choose to take.
Great review. Don’t know anything about the game but will be picking it up. Thank you.
It needed about 20% less story cut scenes and 20% more exploration side quests and optional boss fights. Pretty good overall, maybe 8/10 but definitely not a FF: Tactics, Shining Force II or even Jeane D'Arc as far as strategy RPGs go.
Does the reading to playing ratio improve? The prologue was such a chore....
Enjoyed your vibe. Gonna try this game. Thank you!.
Damn, bro this is exactly the video I was looking for. Have a sub
Great video! I agree that I’d you rush this game, you will not appreciate the nuances of the narrative, and the painstaking decisions that you have to make, nor the tactics needed for battle.
I’m on chapter 18 and it’s gotten so intense. I didn’t know I could replay the mock battles! Thank you for that. I have found that I’m starting to become a bit under levelled (I probably spread my skills too thin) or that a key character I need for their particular skills is like level 8 because I didn’t use them enough.
