I like archibald and maxwell a lot as well. Maxwell comes with revive, good distance with lance hurl/traverse and a chance at counter-attack. Archibald just demolishes ppl from distance for me. My favorite is when an enemy tries to run back to their healer to recover and Archibald hits them with inescapable arrow to finish them off.
Great tier list, I just finished my NG+ Golden route playthrough and I never gave the time god a chance. I will say I love the Julio + Geela combo though, Julio can quickly get her enough TP to get full auto revives on all your heavy hitters. Used Medina for healing the rest while those 2 just made everyone super tanky.
my fave character from chapter 1-15 was anna. chapter 16 onwards, federica.. hands down. her magic damage is insane especially to those heavy units. even against bosses, she deals a ton. erador, maxwell, avlora, serenoa frontline.... hughette and archi for my mage and healer killers, federica for magic dmg, and 1 healer. hard mode was a breeze
Milo's Power of Love is great if you get into serious trouble, but I found Heart Stealer more consistently useful. Tempting just one enemy is SUPER good on its own, and she can often tempt multiple others as you move across a map. I only used Power of Love once or twice in my Hard playthrough. What _really_ makes her great is Moon Jump coupled with great defenses and evasion. Without those, Heart Stealer wouldn't be as useful since she wouldn't be able to reach enemies quickly and could get swarmed. Instead, she can jump in, ignoring most terrain height, tempt an enemy, maybe take a hit or two, then jump out the next turn and heal (or even use an Evasion Pellet). Then repeat for the whole map.
On my second NG+ playthrough on the Ch. 7 Avlora battle, Milo and Medina held off the far lane by themselves using Moon Jump and Heart Stealer only. The archers on the houses and mages down below just slowly whittled each other down that there was barely anything left of them by the time they reached the staircase lol. Also I'll say that I think that while Hughette's ability to consistently blind opposing enemy columns before they reach you was super important on my initial hard mode playthrough, her and Roland actually got better for NG+ - Roland's skill tree is bottom-heavy and once you get down there, he can dish out some serious damage so long as you don't just go charging in. Hughette can also play havoc with enemy AI because of her ability to ignore elevation entirely, as they chase her up and down the stairs for the entire fight but can never reach her (*cough* Gustadolph).
I don’t understand any Anna hate She single-handedly got me through most of my first play though on hard. It’s borderline impossible to lose if you take out the healers on the map early since she can just chip away at the enemies from cover every 2 turns
All the units are good. They depend highly on group comp, the type of enemies you're fighting, etc. For example. Erador is good against swordsmen, and to a lesser extent, spearmen. He's bad against mages unless he can provoke them, which forces them to use melee. Jens is great, but less so on flat maps with no strategic elevation. Hughette is good, but is even better if you can stick her somewhere she can't be reached by enemies. Medina is OP, unless you have no items. A lot of it is situational, which requires you to plan out your team comp. There are ridiculous comps out there that chain 3/4/5 big spells one after another with Benedict/Medina/Quahaug/Quietus shenanigans.
Another thing I forgot to mention in my first post was Avlora's passive that boosts her stats based on the number of allies she has. I haven't tested it yet, but s friend did on hard in the final lvl 50 mock battle with tons of enemies. He said he almost solo'd the entire fight with her. This could definitely influence her place on tier lists, if she's able to basically solo an entire hard playthrough. Gonna experiment a lot with that once I finish my current run.
Best list I've seen so far! My list is a slightly shorter, but basically the same as yours. Imo 6 chars are head and shoulders above all the rest: God tier - Quahuag SS tier - Medina S tier - Erador, Milo, Jens, and Benedict I loved Anna for my NG hard golden route run, but towards the end of NG+ hard she really fell off a cliff for me as I started getting NG+ chars to max level. She's still in my top 10 (#10 in fact), but not in S tier imo. The rest of my top 10 is: 7. Archibald 8. Maxwell 9. Corentin 10. Anna
@@LC356 yeah, his base speed and strength, paired with his mobility, are just too good I think. Like her stealth gives her freedom to move, but it doesn't increase the range of it which definitely does play a part in why Maxwell and Milo are so good
I love mock battle in this game. How it has different scenarios and not you just repeating the battle you just fought. More I play,more I realize that this game is very carefully designed to be played on Normal. Unlike fire emblem where most of players’ default difficulty is Very Hard.
Really? Imo this one is yes more strategic tho repetitive, but fire emblem is a lot easier that I personally thought it was made for entry level rpg player
@@LC356 Julio, Moonjump, Blue Night, rinse and repeat. If you don't kill her in 3 turns once you've closed in on her, you will get mopped. This game is so hard, and I love it.
His skillset is designed for hit & run snipes. Give him act again and full tp and watch him instantly snipe a single unit, bonus points for bosses as he chips half or more of a hard boss's health and just runs back to your team like nothing happened, just like a real life cavalry charge He also synergizes very well with Quahaug when used as a hit & run unit with reverse space time (but cmon, who wouldn't synergize well with him, lmao)
Benedict isn't always worth a spot on your team. He is good, but sometimes it's better to just have another unit that can reliably do something themselves every single turn. He is going to sit idling sometimes due to his TP costs. So unless you waste another turn to keep his TP up, he's wasting his space. He is also wasting multiple turns per round because he is using another player to keep his TP high. So now you're wasting two turns to gain 1 extra turn from an existing unit. It's better to just run 2 (or 3) healers, you don't need Benedict to give you heals, and to run a big DPS, now you don't need Benedict to sacrifice his turn to those functions.
I can count on one hand the amount of time I've had TP issues with Benedict. With TP+ at round start he almost always has 2 at the very minimal that's not factoring in any TP Batteries. I will agree that at times it's better to have a different support character or even an offensive character but TP has never been one of those issues for me.
My tier list (i just completed 2 routes on Hard): -SS tier: Medina (when money and inventory is not a problem) -S tier: Anna, Erador, Quahaug -A tier: Serenoa, Geela, Avlora, Maxwell -In some maps, Jens and Decimal are SS tier. Everyone else I would say B tier except Hossabara and Narve. Both of them are lackluster to say the least and deserve a C tier.
@@LC356 Milo is good, but I'd not consider her broken. Power of Love is very good in crowded maps but when you are playing in Hard luring, kiting and turtling the enemy I found myself using Power of Love less and less. Maybe my playstyle didn't use her full potential.
@@michaelbradley8209 Why would it be? Does Quahuag by himself stall entire chokepoints or flank a unit without hassle? No. That's why you have Anna and Erador in the same tier, those 3 are the best of the best in their role (utility, stalling and flanking). Take cover + Critical Necklace is the reason that Anna is so useful. Does that mean that Anna is better the Quahuag? Not even close. Medina is in a tier of it's own because giving 2 TP per turn to 2-4 units breaks the game in a fundamental level. In the end, tiers are subjetive. I'm in my third playthrough and maybe my personal tier list would change.
Word. I'm playing on hard and Jens is a godsend for this mode as his trap can push huge threat back and end their turn instantly, which is seriously overpowered in my books.
I’m at chapter 11 and don’t have Milo or Quohog but the only one I haven’t had the same experiences with yet is Erador. I’ve used him to block pinch points but mostly he just provokes at the beginning and knocks someone back on occasion. I’m not unimpressed but I feel he’s meh for me so far. I’ll keep using him though, as end game players all appreciate him more than I have this far.
It took me a long time to be convinced he was good. I was just using him wrong tbh. You have to make him a lightning rod in the middle of the match and pick off all that try to come after him. He completely changes once he get's King's Shield and paired with Benedict and a Resurrection Ring this man is almost invincible tbqh.
I thought he sucks as well until the part I wont spoil where there are three elite assassins in one area near the spawn. Erador provoked all of them and kept them busy which allowed me to win the hard fought battle. Loved him now ever since :D
@@LC356 very tru. I just beat the game and am going to do new game plus soon. Erador honestly was the mvp. It was actually hard for me to justify not picking him. Being able to provoke a group of enemies, have high defense, and a healer at your back Made him a beast.

My personal Top 10 (no specific order): Serenoa, Frederica, Hughette, Erador, Julio, Ezana, Geela, Narve, Anna, Archibald - i'm playing for the first time, Chapter 14 on Rolands Path. The battle with Avlora (after Beating Thalass and Erika and destroying the Ship) is the first one i've struggeld with so far. Roland is just to weak 😂. I don't have all the additional characters. So far i've got Piccoletta, Groma, Jens, Medina and some others (can't remember the names). Most of them aren't useful to me 🙈
Medina is by far one of the most busted characters in the game. You need to get her TP physick and fast acting medication. She is just free TP and more with double items and has benedicts now.

the one who suprised me in a positive way is Ezana, even though in the very late stage of the game, when she got her ultimate - it costs TP yes, but hitting every enemy unit with thunder and a possible, even though very low chance of paralyzing them - with time-boy and Medina it's ez to get going
I don’t have her ultimate. But some maps where I went on defence I just created puddle seas and lightninged the hell out of the enemy. It was pretty fun honestly, but the drawback is that you cannot utilise Frederica too well because she deletes the puddles.

I've had Jens and he single handled one side of the map durring the battle with avlora, Battle 07 General Avlora's Assault. (I'm currently not much more farther then that but man is he fun if you can anticipate the enemy path)

Would it be possible to make a video on how to play this game for the absolute beginner, please? I'm currently playing on super easy mode and still having a hard time trying to learn the controls and how to level up my characters, etc... basically I'm getting my tush handed to me in most of the battles and have to restart over and over because I have no idea what I'm doing or what I'm doing wrong and unfortunately most Nintendo Switch games don't come with that little instruction manual thingy in the case that explains anything. @@nintonintendo1 I'm not sure how to equip or level up a character. Also it says that you can add characters to your line up but when I check, everyone's already been added that's playable. So confusing! I've made it as far as the battle with Avlora and basically got my tush handed to me even in incredibly easy mode lol. I didn't know what I was doing wrong so I restarted my game all the way from the beginning again. If you could make a video explaining the controls or the basics of gameplay for the absolute idiot beginner, that would be wonderful and very much appreciated!!
@@whispermeadows Experiment with the menus and take your time. The game has button prompts that tell you everything. When setting up your characters before fight, after picking the option you simply press x when you are on the map to move your units around. Leveling up is really easy. Everyone gets exp just by doing anything besides just moving. Using an item or buffing yourself with a skill for example, or followup attacking from behind. If you are at a battle where enemies are several levels higher than a character, that character will get more exp. Once they reach about the same they gain less. Story maps wlill scale enemies to around the highest level guy in your party. If you want to grind more, then go to encampment and play/replay mock battles. Bear in mind that once your characters are in the scaled level of said map, you gain less and else exp, so it is almost next to impossible to overlevel.
I'm honestly surprised to hear people don't like Jens. His traps aren't just useful on cliff maps, any map with chokepoints are great for him. He saved my skin vs bosses like Avlora, more so than Erador who went down after a lucky crit from her. Being able to keep opponents at bay while your ranged units wear them down is a huge help, and he doesn't need constant healing like a typical tank.
I think Picoletta has pretty good utility too - long range items + decoy... Corentin's ice wall is very useful defensively..The archers are all great.. Julio is good for TP... the only characters I found it hard to make much use of were Roland, Hossabara (both seem to get die way too easily) and Flanagan - by far the worst unit in the game - a "tank" who is weak against archers, has poor magic defense and no offensive power... he looks badass but he's useless in battle... if you need a tank use Erador, or Benedict... or Lionel they all do it better.
Flanagan I think is the only unit beyond help imo. Having a archer weakness as a tank in this game is fucking nuts. Man can't hit for shit either - Biggest disappointment for me so far.
Mounted units take too much bonus damage from specific enemies earlier on which makes them hard to position. Their bonus move is deceptive since you shouldn’t actually push them up that far in the early game. Roland gets much better as you promote him and his defense increases. Not sure of Hossabara and Flannigan since I didn’t feel the need to use them.
@@LC356 I consider Flanagan as more of an high priority single target tank for bosses and high dmg characters Erador can’t reach due to his limited movement. Have Erador tackle the front line while having Flanagan swoop past the focus the strays. He’s also pretty flexible with what items you can give him since a couple of them synergize well with him. Black Anklet it great since he already has natural regen to counter the negatives of the item. Movement bangle to help him with his movement (Fury a high priority target then fly/ Ariel assault away to lead them on a goose chase and away from your squishies). Vitatilty bangle works stacks with your own regen passive if you want survivability. And/or Rearguard cloak to compliment his dmg reduction from the front passive making dmg from even archers not something worth stressing over. He’s just more of the back line distraction/ solution to your harder to reach enemy threats. Definitely situational but still useful depending on your tactical style imo. I did have a hard time using Hassabara though. I think I’d find more use for her if she could also heal herself with ‘be brave’ or that her follow-up heal also worked if she was the one initiating the combo, not just ending it. 🤷🏾♂️
Flanagan is super underrated IMO. People trying to use him incorrectly. His strength is in his Rampart and Shielding stance skills. Turns even squishy characters into absolute tanks. Everyone says just use Erador but Flan is good in situations were Erador isn’t. Take fight against Avlora for example. Erador can’t taunt her. Flan makes everyone so tanky they don’t care that she isn’t taunted bc she can’t kill anyone.
That's easy one of the best is decimal his ability hit every units with a multiple of the number show on the ability sure to recharge his to you got to do nothing for a turn but if paired with Julio they become a hard team to beat
I’ve been in maps where none of his abilities and in range met the requirement to cast 1 single spell. Also his damage is laughable new game plus hard mode . Bottom tier character
@@LC356 1. Play a stage with a bridge 2. Yeet Decimal under the bridge, beside the ladder so no enemy can descend 3. Also yeet Medina and Julio 4. Use Decimal's +5 (forgotten the name of the skill) 5. Sleep because the level becomes too easy. This was how I cleared the chp 13 battle against Erica and Thalas.
@@LC356 I still play through my PSP version at least once a year… when my PSP goes it’ll be a sad day. My brother will do the cooperative battles with me ad hoc. I’d pay a pretty penny for the FULL PSP version to come to the Switch.
LinkKing7 made a video on this, but Quahaug can use Distorted Space to drag an enemy boss out where your other units can easily backstab it to death. It absolutely annihilates all defeat boss maps as a result.
i was so excited when i read Jens could make ballista traps that attack automatically and when i finally got him rank 3 it was SO disappointing af... this thing is full of... disappointment... it TP consuming af, it's squishy af, it does nearly no dmg (it's functions as hughette's detection-shots), never used him again afterwards except for some VERY special fights for his ladder
I will say this Anna in Hard mode blind was probably one of the most hilarious stuff like why can I solo 98% of all maps in this game? Though there is some luck you need and tactic to even make it work which is positioning mainly.
This list is great. I will fight anyone who speaks out against my man Jens. Thanks to Jens, when I had to fight and Thalas, I immediately subtracted Erica. Got her pushed down the ladder and then 2 sling traps later she was dead at the bottom. Then later when I was completing the final mission, I did the Frederica ending, Jens, Medina, Julio and Corentin came in absolutely clutch. Corentin kept putting up walls, and I'd have my tanks stand behind it. I always had a spot covered with a sling trap, and I kept upping my team's TP with julio and Medina. It was a hard fought battle but it was one of the most intense experiences in the game. Though I'm a baby and only did it on normal, still had some tough times. Anyway this game is great and already a pick for GOTY for me. It's my 1st tactics game and it's gonna have me going back in time to other great titles like FFT and tactics ogre.

The thing I love about the game is that every character has some sort of niche, even situationally, that makes them worth using. Except Roland. Ffs man, can’t you survive one map for me? Please?
@@LC356 I know he is situational but I'm using it on my NG+ and he is constantly doing lots of damage on inumerous enemies and gain a huge boost with obsidian anklet since he doesn't recover TP naturally overall he is the unit who is doing the most damage in my team and can be used with a tp charger
Groma and Flanagan are my choices for tanks especially when working together. Groma as the main tank allows for way more damage output and consistent provokes. While Flanagan can cover her weakness of rng or protect anyone else left out in the open. I really like useing Jens as basically an off tank with his traps to protect people. He seemed gimmicky at first but after useing him and realizing how strong the traps are he really justifies his place on the team
@@wenksification to each there own. I hated his provoke missing all the time and felt he couldn’t negate damage as much as groma with how hard enemies were hitting. I actually prefer tanks who can actually kill so having everyone come in and having her assassinate someone in the back was a ton of fun and procs her evade. Coupling Cordelia evade boost with correntine ice on ground with Flanagan made the damage negation insane. With Flanagan they could hold a choke point against every single enemy type without any ult spam useing there regular abilities. Mages archers bosses it was nuts. Hard mode was so easy.
Anna is awful new game plus hard mode . There is no argument why she should be over 10 other characters. She might be able to solo 1 mage in a round. Laughable damage
I don't know why people exaggerate quahaug so much lol, his skill is very, very situational. And I didn't see archibald, maxwell or avlora in this list, kinda confusing because they're obviously OP. Even dechimal is better for me rather than quahaug, especially in medium/easy difficulty, he can easily hit 5-6 target in a single turn + lower their speed. The thing that I agree on this vid is about Jens, he is very good at making traps. And of course fast-acting skill from medina is LITERALLY what it means to be OPed.
We have very different outlooks on the game. Quahag has been unanimously crowned the king of this game from pretty much anyone who's ran Hard Mode or New Game+ his utility rests within planning and calculated forethought so he's not for everyone.
Remember, reverse space time _does not_ revive dead units, making him an even more broken unit on any difficulty other than hard. If you snipe the enemy before they can react, you don't even need to use medina and her more costly skill use regardless of how much money you have.
anybody who can warp units around the map is one of the broken units if not the most in strategy games lmao. Being able to redo turns you messed in or reposition/heal your allies is very good. He literally allows you to even cheese boss kill maps by swapping places with said bosses. Yeah, no. Quahaug is straight up broken.
Aw, I like Giovanna. I wouldn't even suggest that she's anywhere near S tier, but she's got a lot of things going for her that people tend to overlook. She has great movement that synergizes with her TP generation trait. Has decent bulk and evasion and won't fold in a single hit like the other mages and the squisher units like Roland. And works very well with mages that when well placed can hit a large number of allies for decent damage. She requires a bit more work and thought to get going, but she's tons of fun in the right setup. I really like some of the quirkier units like her and Decimal and Piccoletta. I think Roland is overall one of the "Worst units" (I don't think there are genuine bad characters, just ones that are less good in a general sense). He has some great abilities, but he's a melee unit that is frailer than some support units like Jens and Julio and has very little utility outside of his damage to make up for his glass cannon nature.
@@darrenmills7118 Characters like Giovanna and Flanagan aren't bad, they're simply less straightforward to use. Flanagan isn't even complicated, a lot of people deem him bad due to his bow weakness without ever actually testing how well he tanks archers from the front. Equip him with the rearguard's cloak + bangle of vitality (stacks with his natural regen) and he'll do fine. It helps to pick up all the defence bonuses from his weapon upgrade tree--it's not like he's desperate for more attack power or his weapon skill. Being innately immune to knockback is also a big bonus in some battles.
I found Giovanna surprisingly useful on maps when I needed to field her in the endgame of the golden route. I had never used her before that, but she can take some hits and do some useful stuff. The problem with her is that most of the other characters are more consistently useful, either with higher damage or better support, and having to depend on terrain sucks. She's just not worth using when there are so many great units in the game.
long distance buff and debuff spices provide great utility, she has good synergy with Frederica (long distance oil jugs)... Decoy is pretty useful too... also relentlessly spamming large thunder stones on bosses works every time!.

Archibald is my favourite character in the game. Both in lore and as a playable character Anna is a close second
I found Milo super useful when dealing with Boss characters with Blue Night. Crippling their TP was pretty reliable for me.
Something I've been experimenting with a bit more. Definitely has been super clutch lately.

Agreed Moon Jump is quite good when factored with evade detection. Good points all around.

That is curious. He must’ve lost alot of allies for it to be effective. I’m going to experiment with it.

I loved Anna for my NG hard golden route run, but towards the end of NG+ hard she really fell off a cliff for me as I started getting NG+ chars to max level. She's still in my top 10 (#10 in fact), but not in S tier imo. The rest of my top 10 is:

9. Corentin
10. Anna
The more I play I think Anna might be replaced by Maxwell. He is just too damn good.
@@LC356 yeah, his base speed and strength, paired with his mobility, are just too good I think. Like her stealth gives her freedom to move, but it doesn't increase the range of it which definitely does play a part in why Maxwell and Milo are so good
Corentin, with a TP battery like Medina, he can keep your wounded teammates alive with Shield of Ice and Ice Wall can be very useful.

I love mock battle in this game. How it has different scenarios and not you just repeating the battle you just fought. More I play,more I realize that this game is very carefully designed to be played on Normal. Unlike fire emblem where most of players’ default difficulty is Very Hard.
It's a different take for sure from most Strategy Games

6:15 Blue Night for me was literally just to keep Avlora from dropping a Bloody Cross on my dudes while I was wailing on her.

He is fragile but definitely has his utility in Hard Mode and New Game+. Just can't leave him alone.
His skillset is designed for hit & run snipes.
Give him act again and full tp and watch him instantly snipe a single unit, bonus points for bosses as he chips half or more of a hard boss's health and just runs back to your team like nothing happened, just like a real life cavalry charge
He also synergizes very well with Quahaug when used as a hit & run unit with reverse space time (but cmon, who wouldn't synergize well with him, lmao)
He’s terrible .. on new game hard mode I park him right behind something. I have seen him one hit KO more then all others combined

Benedict isn't always worth a spot on your team.
He is good, but sometimes it's better to just have another unit that can reliably do something themselves every single turn.
He is going to sit idling sometimes due to his TP costs. So unless you waste another turn to keep his TP up, he's wasting his space. He is also wasting multiple turns per round because he is using another player to keep his TP high.
So now you're wasting two turns to gain 1 extra turn from an existing unit.
It's better to just run 2 (or 3) healers, you don't need Benedict to give you heals, and to run a big DPS, now you don't need Benedict to sacrifice his turn to those functions.
I can count on one hand the amount of time I've had TP issues with Benedict. With TP+ at round start he almost always has 2 at the very minimal that's not factoring in any TP Batteries. I will agree that at times it's better to have a different support character or even an offensive character but TP has never been one of those issues for me.
My tier list (i just completed 2 routes on Hard):
-SS tier: Medina (when money and inventory is not a problem)
-S tier: Anna, Erador, Quahaug
-A tier: Serenoa, Geela, Avlora, Maxwell
-In some maps, Jens and Decimal are SS tier.
Everyone else I would say B tier except Hossabara and Narve. Both of them are lackluster to say the least and deserve a C tier.

@@LC356 Milo is good, but I'd not consider her broken. Power of Love is very good in crowded maps but when you are playing in Hard luring, kiting and turtling the enemy I found myself using Power of Love less and less. Maybe my playstyle didn't use her full potential.

@@michaelbradley8209 Why would it be? Does Quahuag by himself stall entire chokepoints or flank a unit without hassle? No. That's why you have Anna and Erador in the same tier, those 3 are the best of the best in their role (utility, stalling and flanking). Take cover + Critical Necklace is the reason that Anna is so useful. Does that mean that Anna is better the Quahuag? Not even close.
Medina is in a tier of it's own because giving 2 TP per turn to 2-4 units breaks the game in a fundamental level.
In the end, tiers are subjetive. I'm in my third playthrough and maybe my personal tier list would change.
Anyone who rates Jens highly, actually knows how to play the game. I feel like most reviews aren't hard mode players.

Word. I'm playing on hard and Jens is a godsend for this mode as his trap can push huge threat back and end their turn instantly, which is seriously overpowered in my books.
Hard mode player since day one, I haven't used him yet, sure I'll give him a chance.

I’m at chapter 11 and don’t have Milo or Quohog but the only one I haven’t had the same experiences with yet is Erador. I’ve used him to block pinch points but mostly he just provokes at the beginning and knocks someone back on occasion. I’m not unimpressed but I feel he’s meh for me so far. I’ll keep using him though, as end game players all appreciate him more than I have this far.
It took me a long time to be convinced he was good. I was just using him wrong tbh. You have to make him a lightning rod in the middle of the match and pick off all that try to come after him. He completely changes once he get's King's Shield and paired with Benedict and a Resurrection Ring this man is almost invincible tbqh.
I thought he sucks as well until the part I wont spoil where there are three elite assassins in one area near the spawn. Erador provoked all of them and kept them busy which allowed me to win the hard fought battle. Loved him now ever since :D
@@LC356 very tru. I just beat the game and am going to do new game plus soon. Erador honestly was the mvp. It was actually hard for me to justify not picking him. Being able to provoke a group of enemies, have high defense, and a healer at your back Made him a beast.
Just got Medina and Jens in chapter 9 will be grinding money to afford to use Medina now 🤣

Serenoa, Frederica, Hughette, Erador, Julio, Ezana, Geela, Narve, Anna, Archibald - i'm playing for the first time, Chapter 14 on Rolands Path. The battle with Avlora (after Beating Thalass and Erika and destroying the Ship) is the first one i've struggeld with so far. Roland is just to weak 😂. I don't have all the additional characters. So far i've got Piccoletta, Groma, Jens, Medina and some others (can't remember the names). Most of them aren't useful to me 🙈
Medina is by far one of the most busted characters in the game. You need to get her TP physick and fast acting medication. She is just free TP and more with double items and has benedicts now.

the one who suprised me in a positive way is Ezana, even though in the very late stage of the game, when she got her ultimate - it costs TP yes, but hitting every enemy unit with thunder and a possible, even though very low chance of paralyzing them - with time-boy and Medina it's ez to get going

I don’t have her ultimate. But some maps where I went on defence I just created puddle seas and lightninged the hell out of the enemy. It was pretty fun honestly, but the drawback is that you cannot utilise Frederica too well because she deletes the puddles.

Would it be possible to make a video on how to play this game for the absolute beginner, please? I'm currently playing on super easy mode and still having a hard time trying to learn the controls and how to level up my characters, etc... basically I'm getting my tush handed to me in most of the battles and have to restart over and over because I have no idea what I'm doing or what I'm doing wrong and unfortunately most Nintendo Switch games don't come with that little instruction manual thingy in the case that explains anything. @@nintonintendo1 I'm not sure how to equip or level up a character. Also it says that you can add characters to your line up but when I check, everyone's already been added that's playable. So confusing! I've made it as far as the battle with Avlora and basically got my tush handed to me even in incredibly easy mode lol. I didn't know what I was doing wrong so I restarted my game all the way from the beginning again. If you could make a video explaining the controls or the basics of gameplay for the absolute idiot beginner, that would be wonderful and very much appreciated!!
@@whispermeadows Experiment with the menus and take your time. The game has button prompts that tell you everything.
When setting up your characters before fight, after picking the option you simply press x when you are on the map to move your units around.
Leveling up is really easy. Everyone gets exp just by doing anything besides just moving. Using an item or buffing yourself with a skill for example, or followup attacking from behind. If you are at a battle where enemies are several levels higher than a character, that character will get more exp. Once they reach about the same they gain less.
Story maps wlill scale enemies to around the highest level guy in your party. If you want to grind more, then go to encampment and play/replay mock battles. Bear in mind that once your characters are in the scaled level of said map, you gain less and else exp, so it is almost next to impossible to overlevel.

I'm honestly surprised to hear people don't like Jens. His traps aren't just useful on cliff maps, any map with chokepoints are great for him.
He saved my skin vs bosses like Avlora, more so than Erador who went down after a lucky crit from her. Being able to keep opponents at bay while your ranged units wear them down is a huge help, and he doesn't need constant healing like a typical tank.

I think Picoletta has pretty good utility too - long range items + decoy... Corentin's ice wall is very useful defensively..The archers are all great.. Julio is good for TP... the only characters I found it hard to make much use of were Roland, Hossabara (both seem to get die way too easily) and Flanagan - by far the worst unit in the game - a "tank" who is weak against archers, has poor magic defense and no offensive power... he looks badass but he's useless in battle... if you need a tank use Erador, or Benedict... or Lionel they all do it better.
Flanagan I think is the only unit beyond help imo. Having a archer weakness as a tank in this game is fucking nuts. Man can't hit for shit either - Biggest disappointment for me so far.
Mounted units take too much bonus damage from specific enemies earlier on which makes them hard to position. Their bonus move is deceptive since you shouldn’t actually push them up that far in the early game. Roland gets much better as you promote him and his defense increases. Not sure of Hossabara and Flannigan since I didn’t feel the need to use them.
@@LC356 I consider Flanagan as more of an high priority single target tank for bosses and high dmg characters Erador can’t reach due to his limited movement. Have Erador tackle the front line while having Flanagan swoop past the focus the strays. He’s also pretty flexible with what items you can give him since a couple of them synergize well with him. Black Anklet it great since he already has natural regen to counter the negatives of the item. Movement bangle to help him with his movement (Fury a high priority target then fly/ Ariel assault away to lead them on a goose chase and away from your squishies). Vitatilty bangle works stacks with your own regen passive if you want survivability. And/or Rearguard cloak to compliment his dmg reduction from the front passive making dmg from even archers not something worth stressing over.
He’s just more of the back line distraction/ solution to your harder to reach enemy threats. Definitely situational but still useful depending on your tactical style imo.
I did have a hard time using Hassabara though. I think I’d find more use for her if she could also heal herself with ‘be brave’ or that her follow-up heal also worked if she was the one initiating the combo, not just ending it. 🤷🏾♂️
Our poor man Flanagan just want to get rid of his title, he was a beast before.
Flanagan is super underrated IMO. People trying to use him incorrectly. His strength is in his Rampart and Shielding stance skills. Turns even squishy characters into absolute tanks. Everyone says just use Erador but Flan is good in situations were Erador isn’t. Take fight against Avlora for example. Erador can’t taunt her. Flan makes everyone so tanky they don’t care that she isn’t taunted bc she can’t kill anyone.

I’ve been in maps where none of his abilities and in range met the requirement to cast 1 single spell. Also his damage is laughable new game plus hard mode . Bottom tier character

4. Use Decimal's +5 (forgotten the name of the skill)

What to play after this game? Beat it twice. I need more like it on the switch.
I would say Fire Emblem Three Houses is similar and of Course Final Fantasy Tactics although that is not yet on Switch.
@@LC356 I still play through my PSP version at least once a year… when my PSP goes it’ll be a sad day. My brother will do the cooperative battles with me ad hoc. I’d pay a pretty penny for the FULL PSP version to come to the Switch.

LinkKing7 made a video on this, but Quahaug can use Distorted Space to drag an enemy boss out where your other units can easily backstab it to death. It absolutely annihilates all defeat boss maps as a result.
i was so excited when i read Jens could make ballista traps that attack automatically and when i finally got him rank 3 it was SO disappointing af... this thing is full of... disappointment... it TP consuming af, it's squishy af, it does nearly no dmg (it's functions as hughette's detection-shots), never used him again afterwards except for some VERY special fights for his ladder
Turret is just there for LULZ imo. No real reason to use it instead of a trap.
It has a little utility, though.
I used it in a manner similar to Piccoletta's clone.
I will say this Anna in Hard mode blind was probably one of the most hilarious stuff like why can I solo 98% of all maps in this game? Though there is some luck you need and tactic to even make it work which is positioning mainly.

This list is great. I will fight anyone who speaks out against my man Jens. Thanks to Jens, when I had to fight and Thalas, I immediately subtracted Erica. Got her pushed down the ladder and then 2 sling traps later she was dead at the bottom. Then later when I was completing the final mission, I did the Frederica ending, Jens, Medina, Julio and Corentin came in absolutely clutch. Corentin kept putting up walls, and I'd have my tanks stand behind it. I always had a spot covered with a sling trap, and I kept upping my team's TP with julio and Medina. It was a hard fought battle but it was one of the most intense experiences in the game. Though I'm a baby and only did it on normal, still had some tough times. Anyway this game is great and already a pick for GOTY for me. It's my 1st tactics game and it's gonna have me going back in time to other great titles like FFT and tactics ogre.

It normally refreshes after each chapter or you can check with the Traveling Merchant in the earlier chapters.

@@LC356 I know he is situational but I'm using it on my NG+ and he is constantly doing lots of damage on inumerous enemies and gain a huge boost with obsidian anklet since he doesn't recover TP naturally
overall he is the unit who is doing the most damage in my team and can be used with a tp charger

Groma and Flanagan are my choices for tanks especially when working together. Groma as the main tank allows for way more damage output and consistent provokes. While Flanagan can cover her weakness of rng or protect anyone else left out in the open. I really like useing Jens as basically an off tank with his traps to protect people. He seemed gimmicky at first but after useing him and realizing how strong the traps are he really justifies his place on the team
Groma and Flanagan - Had hadn't considered using those two together but I'll take a look at it for my Synergies video.

@@wenksification to each there own. I hated his provoke missing all the time and felt he couldn’t negate damage as much as groma with how hard enemies were hitting. I actually prefer tanks who can actually kill so having everyone come in and having her assassinate someone in the back was a ton of fun and procs her evade. Coupling Cordelia evade boost with correntine ice on ground with Flanagan made the damage negation insane. With Flanagan they could hold a choke point against every single enemy type without any ult spam useing there regular abilities. Mages archers bosses it was nuts. Hard mode was so easy.
Anna is awful new game plus hard mode . There is no argument why she should be over 10 other characters. She might be able to solo 1 mage in a round. Laughable damage
Her utility completely changes. She is meant to pop out and K.O bosses or people that are near death. That's it.

Even dechimal is better for me rather than quahaug, especially in medium/easy difficulty, he can easily hit 5-6 target in a single turn + lower their speed.
The thing that I agree on this vid is about Jens, he is very good at making traps.
And of course fast-acting skill from medina is LITERALLY what it means to be OPed.
We have very different outlooks on the game. Quahag has been unanimously crowned the king of this game from pretty much anyone who's ran Hard Mode or New Game+ his utility rests within planning and calculated forethought so he's not for everyone.
Remember, reverse space time _does not_ revive dead units, making him an even more broken unit on any difficulty other than hard. If you snipe the enemy before they can react, you don't even need to use medina and her more costly skill use regardless of how much money you have.
anybody who can warp units around the map is one of the broken units if not the most in strategy games lmao. Being able to redo turns you messed in or reposition/heal your allies is very good. He literally allows you to even cheese boss kill maps by swapping places with said bosses. Yeah, no. Quahaug is straight up broken.

Aw, I like Giovanna. I wouldn't even suggest that she's anywhere near S tier, but she's got a lot of things going for her that people tend to overlook.
She has great movement that synergizes with her TP generation trait. Has decent bulk and evasion and won't fold in a single hit like the other mages and the squisher units like Roland.
And works very well with mages that when well placed can hit a large number of allies for decent damage.
She requires a bit more work and thought to get going, but she's tons of fun in the right setup. I really like some of the quirkier units like her and Decimal and Piccoletta.
I think Roland is overall one of the "Worst units" (I don't think there are genuine bad characters, just ones that are less good in a general sense). He has some great abilities, but he's a melee unit that is frailer than some support units like Jens and Julio and has very little utility outside of his damage to make up for his glass cannon nature.
The worst characters list is easy -- its just Flanagan.
@@darrenmills7118 Characters like Giovanna and Flanagan aren't bad, they're simply less straightforward to use. Flanagan isn't even complicated, a lot of people deem him bad due to his bow weakness without ever actually testing how well he tanks archers from the front. Equip him with the rearguard's cloak + bangle of vitality (stacks with his natural regen) and he'll do fine. It helps to pick up all the defence bonuses from his weapon upgrade tree--it's not like he's desperate for more attack power or his weapon skill. Being innately immune to knockback is also a big bonus in some battles.
I found Giovanna surprisingly useful on maps when I needed to field her in the endgame of the golden route. I had never used her before that, but she can take some hits and do some useful stuff. The problem with her is that most of the other characters are more consistently useful, either with higher damage or better support, and having to depend on terrain sucks. She's just not worth using when there are so many great units in the game.
long distance buff and debuff spices provide great utility, she has good synergy with Frederica (long distance oil jugs)... Decoy is pretty useful too... also relentlessly spamming large thunder stones on bosses works every time!.
Best unit is the Bloody Shield. He can treck the greatest distance more than any.other character and does a shit ton of cross aoe dmg
