  • Lance Hendrick claimed that the Blind Shaker improves extraction when preparing espresso. Which method produces better tasting espresso though? How does using a WDT vs Blind Shaker change your espresso routine? Which method do you prefer?

Dude why are you comparing lattes and not pure espresso shots? You're making it way harder for yourself to taste the difference

Fair point I’ll give it another go

Interesting. Maybe you can go a little coarser on the grind setting for the shaker and see if there's a difference in flavor?

Yeah I’ll have to experiment with it. The blind shaker is new to me so I need to get used to using it.

If you watch Lance Hedrick use the blind shaker, he doesn't shake nearly as aggressively as you are, so maybe try that.
Also, diluting both drinks with milk kinda ruined the comparison.

I’ll rewatch and try to match Lances method and test the espresso. Thanks for the suggestions

@@cafe_au_neil It's worth noting that he deliberately keeps the tumbler of the shaker at a height when dropping the grounds into the portafilter. This supposedly gives noticeably superior results.

@ I’ve tried that but I can’t get the grounds to all land in the middle 😢 maybe I just need to upskill 😂

If you didn’t get channeling, which would dilute your espresso, then they should be the same. You didn’t change any of the variables evidently. Lastly, you’re only comparing one to the other. To get accurate and more valid results you need to significantly increase your samples as an example do 50 with and then 50 without.

You are absolutely right, I can do a more robust analysis. I’ll do some more investigating for my next video

What true coffee nerd wouldn't use BOTH? Blind shaker, followed by the WDT, for the ultimate distribution.

That’s what I was originally doing! What do you use?
