this is my take FROM EXPERIENCE ORTHODOX SHOULD BOX AND COUNTER PUNCH IF YOUR A SOUTHPAW YOU GONNA GET HIT MORE YOU SHOULD THROW ALOT MORE AND COMMIT TOO A JAB AND GOOD SIDE TO SIDE MOVEMENT THROWIN 1 2 3 4 PUNCH COMBOS OVER AND OVER AND STEP TOO THE SIDE KEEP MOVING IS THE KEY THROW THAT JAB AND LEFT STEAIGHT LEFT HAND IT WORKS IF YOU HAVE TIMING AND POWER
this is a good video subject! im like everyone else, i train to fight conventional on the pads, bag etc,but when it comes to live sparring time,i naturally switch to southpaw.its weird.my lefty jab has alot of power and feels much faster than my conventional jabs, but my conventional right cross is twice as powerful as my unorthodox left straight! i guess im abit of both!
I'm right handed and fight conventional but I jab better with my left.. and my left hook can be devastating. It all depends on which stance you start off with and practice the longest.
Yeah when I started hitting stuff I just felt natural southpaw. I think it was the feet that sold me. More power in my right but my left is quicker I don't think I have as much cartlidge built up in that shoulder lol. Nice to always have a harder jab than a lot of guys too
I like the video but I disagree with the statement at 1:22 that whenever facing a southpaw whoever has the lead foot on the outside has an advantage. Then why did Mayweather, Roy Jones, James Toney and Bhop predominantly moved to their right against southpaws? And they were all master tacticians.
@ILUVBOXING1 Wrong most trainers are orthodox so they'll foce you to fight right handed . A friend of mine who's a lefty was forced for the most part to fight right handed
bruce lee could switch to confuse the opponent but 80 percent of punches comes from the lead hand thats why he thought its better to have ur strongest hand as the lead
WTF one gun to a battle that doesn't sound like boxing talk, plus there are only two stances in boxing. Think about how many fighters are able to effectively switch to south paw from conventional or vice versa, not many. Why would you tell a kid just learning,to train both sides when he needs to understand and master one side first before he can begin to switch sides? Most boxing trainer will tell you that. It's hard enuff as a beginner to keep the basics.
Well, Ralph Machio is an actor with no official fight record. Bruce Lee is an actor with no official fight record, just propaganda and hype. Ralph is bigger. The comparison is valid, the opinion is fair. ;)
For the beginner...stick to one stance, it's simpler that way!
Thank you for answering my question Elie :)
I like this guy as a trainer, really seems to know his stuff.
so are you saying footwork > hands?
Brandon's face when he mentioned Bruce Lee :)
Daniel Popescu LOL
haha i love how brandon imitates elie at the end
That's a BASIC principle..don't sweat it too much because southie's are taught to fight outside or inside of that lead foot
i love this dude brandon krause no homo!!

when choosing stance = balance is the key.... not what hand is strongest, true story.

I think I remembering reading or hearing that Mike Tyson was a lefty but he fought conventional.

Evgeni Antelo they moved to their right at a distance
did this guy ever go pro or even amateur? he seems like he could be really good, did he ever actually box?
Thank u indeed for the piece of advice coach .. Will stick to the southpaw then
he used to throw great left hooks so maybe
@ILUVBOXING1 Wrong most trainers are orthodox so they'll foce you to fight right handed . A friend of mine who's a lefty was forced for the most part to fight right handed

what if the guy hardly fights back ?
or just go for a quick takedown and avoid standup altogether...ground and pound finish and we"ll call it a day...lol
Still gotta be able to take a punch though
just saying, dont get all touchy lol
marvin hagler = greatest converted southpaw.
Martinez is another converted southpaw!
