Quality Audio & video is very important to me as I know people will tune out if it doesn't at least sound great. This was all very helpful, especially for live streaming with a tablet or phone. Thank you so much for this video! It is so helpful! I have purchased everything for the last set up with the usb mixer. Thanks for this very informative video, so helpful. I'm thinking of teaching Version 3 (currently teaching with version 1) My question is....why use a speaker if you're sharing computer sound? If you're sharing music on the computer, won't the sound also come out of the computer speakers...meaning you won't need a separate speaker? I have a computer, bluetooth speaker and smartphone. I'm thinking of buying a wireless headset for version 3. Will I still need a speaker, even though my music is on the computer? My speaker doesn't have AUX output.

    • @DanceTechwithJHsu
      @DanceTechwithJHsu  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it depends on your computer. If you're plugging a wireless mic into a laptop often that's the same as your headphone jack so if the mic is plugged in your computer thinks there's a speaker also connected so it doesn't use the external speakers on the computer. That's why you use the y-splitter so you can plug both a speaker and headset into the jack. If your computer has a separate mic and headphone jack already then you wouldn't need a speaker =)

    Very helpful video! I do have a question about set up 5. Is the speaker playing out loud or are you listening through earbuds? Is there a way to add something so the music only plays in my ear and not out loud where I am at or will that lead to syncing issues? I will be teaching in a quiet area and can't always have a speaker playing out loud without disturbing people.

    • @DanceTechwithJHsu
      @DanceTechwithJHsu  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thank you! In my last setup I'm playing the music through a speaker.
      I haven't tested this, but I think this would work:
      Instead of using the breakout cable for your output connecting to a speaker, you could use something like this amzn.to/3gPuyjf and then plug a bluetooth transmitter like this amzn.to/3gKg0BH into it and then connect bluetooth earbuds to that transmitter.
      A little roundabout and again I haven't been able to test this myself but I think that would work! If you end up trying this let me know how it goes. I might try it myself now that lots of teachers are needing to teach at home while their kids are in their own classes in the next room.

    Hey Jonathan ! Thank you for making this video! We are doing zoom dance classes using a mixer and a wireless mic, but we also use another two mobile phones as two cameras (joining the meeting as participants) for two different angles, in which the host (MacBook pro) only serves as an audio output device (music and voice of the coach). It worked kinda well as the music and the voice synced perfectly, especially when we were doing choreography class. However, we found that the video would somehow out of sync when the coach was teaching fitness dance class, all songs were being played one after one non-stop. Is it related to the cameras or the music source we were using (TH-cam music/ Spotify / mp3 files )?

    • @DanceTechwithJHsu

      hi! are you playing music from the same device through the mixer for both the choreography and fitness classes?

    • @patpatleo730
      @patpatleo730 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DanceTechwithJHsu yes we are! basically all choreography classes use music from Spotify, while fitness classes use both Spotify music or mp3 music (downloaded songs) depends on the instructors.

    • @DanceTechwithJHsu
      @DanceTechwithJHsu  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@patpatleo730 got it! it sounds like you're getting that sync issue because you are using the video from the mobile device as your main instead of your computer. If you did it from your computer and audio through mixer it would be in sync, but because you're relying on your phone's connection there will always be instances of delay and it's probably just more noticeable when you play music nonstop vs when you're stopping and starting when teaching choreography. Is there a reason you're not using the computer as your main video?

    • @patpatleo730
      @patpatleo730 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DanceTechwithJHsu @Dance Tech with JHsu We use music from the computer (the host) no matter the music source is from online or downloaded songs, like we use the Spotify app on Macbook Pro because we feel a bit more comfortable to play music from computer instead of a phone haha. Since our host computer is not located at right in front of the instructor, we use two phones as cameras for the instructor (all devices are connected to the same internet). Will it affect the synchronisation since the video and audio were not from the same source? should I use a phone to connect with the host computer and serve as the camera (I saw some people doing this on TH-cam)? As the build in camera of Macbook Pro cannot fit our use, the angle is not what we want.

      hm I'll need to research that, off the top of my head though you could probably connect the output for the mixer to a dongle to your phone to get the music and microphone, and then make sure you turn off noise cancellation on your phone mic in Zoom

    Hi Jonathan! I got the same USB mixer and headset as version 5, but I find that I need to turn up the gain and the volume of the headset so much to hear my voice (even if the music is really low) that there is a loud, undesirable buzz in the background. Any idea what I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance!

    • @DanceTechwithJHsu
      @DanceTechwithJHsu  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! sorry for the delayed response. The buzzing sound might because of feedback since you have to turn your headset up so much. If you back away from the speaker does that do anything? Also if you turn it up too much there will always be buzzing in which case have you tried turning the volume up on the headset or turning up the volume on your speaker instead of the gain/volume for the headset input?

    How would one connect a pair of Bluetooth headphones into the mixer set-up (with set-up 4), so that instead of listening to the music oneself on a speaker e.g. if one lived in a block of flats and didn't want to annoy the neighbours at 5am, but still wanted a good volume for oneself to work out with, whilst hosting a Zoom class? Many thanks.

    • @DanceTechwithJHsu
      @DanceTechwithJHsu  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn't recommend connecting via bluetooth to the mixer, there's enough delay that everything you hear will be off a little bit unfortunately. I think if hearing the music loud enough is the higher priority I would just share computer sound with bluetooth earbuds. Same effect but much cheaper than setup 4. If you really wanted to though you could use a bluetooth transmitter like this one amzn.to/2Lrd9Eh but you're definitely going to experience latency

      @@DanceTechwithJHsu - I managed to achieve it with hardly any latency, connecting the 3.5mm jack into this - TROND 2-in-1 Bluetooth V5.0 Transmitter Receiver/Wireless 3.5mm Audio Adapter (AptX Low Latency for Both TX & RX), setting it to TX and pairing with a set of Bluetooth headphones. I connected it to the cable you had coming out to an external speaker. So I have a Rode wireless mike plugged into an XLR adaptor with a 3.5mm TRS female end on it. I have quite loud music on, for a TRX suspension training class via Zoom, albeit it is not choreographed in time to the music, so if there was some latency it would not matter. I’m one step closer to making this setup work but I have run into some issues.
    1. The first time I did it, it worked with my default camera app but when I went into Zoom it didn’t pick up the microphone. I even triple checked my settings but nothing.
    2. Now when I try the same setup, it doesn’t even read my mic anymore. I think there’s a button that I probably hit (I looked to see if I disabled the microphone but I didn’t). Can you think of anything else it could be?

      I ran into that issue before and had to change the source in my computer sound settings. If you go to around 9:40 I show what I had to do to fix the issue, are you able to try that? The frustrating thing is every earbud/headphone seems to have a different configuration. I spent about 2 hours with a friend once trouble shooting this same issue and basically just had to keep trying different combinations of turning things on and off until we found one that worked

      hi! it sounds like you're teaching in person classes? I think putting all of your music into one tablet device is definitely a good idea! It will make everything easier to find and a lot less work for you as far as carrying things. And if you liked having CDs because things were organized by artist you can always make playlists for yourself

Here's a side-by-side, and linked is instructions. Just sharing as another option for those who don't have the budget for a new hardware setup.
