When i listen to this song it makes me think of all the times she has reinvented herself and some things she’s said like “I just want to work really hard while society is tolerating me being successful” and the line “I’ll show you every version of yourself tonight” makes me think of how people connect with her lyrics cause they see themselves and their own experiences in her songs. And I think my dear and love are her addressing the fans who support her and want her to succeed cause she says “you are not like the regulars, the masquerade revelers, drunk as they watch my shattered edges glisten” like the people who want to see her fail and hate her. They’re the ones who “burned the disco down” but she “stays on that tightrope” trying to keep producing music for her fans as long as they’ll keep listening to it. If that makes sense. Yes, yes and yes! You got it. It’s the same interpretation that I had. In Miss Americana (her documentary) she said something that made me think about this song (“... the end is near...” and “...I’ll show you every version of yourself tonight...”, still doing everything to keep us looking at her...):
"We do exist in this society where women in entertainment are discarded in an elephant graveyard by the time they're 35," Taylor candidly narrated. She explained how young female artists must constantly reinvent themselves to keep working. "As I'm reaching 30, I'm like, I want to work really hard while society is still tolerating me being successful," she concluded.
yes you're right! "tallest tiptoe", "highest heels", trapeze etc indicate how hard she's trying to entertain us and keep us (her fans) engaged with her. she's also referencing how she brings the best out of us. her music makes us happy, sad, angry, nostalgic etc makes us see our different sides.

Michelle directed me here and I'm grateful because most reactors interpreted Mirrorball in terms of a romance but the analogies don't work. I've seen Mirrorball from its release as Taylor using the circus metaphor for her live shows where after all the support staff (musicians, backup) have gone home, she's still on the stage trying to perfect her art. And the most telling line, imo, is when she says "I've never been a natural, but I try try try". In the early years of her career a number of critics made a point of saying she looks clumsy, often flailing. But Taylor took away their power by coming right out and saying she really can't dance. But she keeps trying.
That is awesome! And stuff like this is the reason I have this channel! Especially Taylor Swift I feel like, because I’ve noticed that she likes to talk reference her past albums. The only reason I know stuff like this, is because of people leaving so much information on the comments ! I’m going to have to make a video or something because I’m super grateful for people like you 🙏🏽
@@ohef17 Thank you. I'm 72 but the magic and magnificence of Miss Swift's writing is that she's written the sound track of my life. The vision she had that inspired Exile is where I'm at right now. But I'll never give up. The intro of her song Change is my ringtone and my life's motto is the line in it 'Cause we never gave in." Even got a customized license plate TS FAN.

Her disco phase is 1989, and Red wad the circus. In reputation, her Ready For It music video had a horse.
People loved and hated her for expressing herself through her music in those phases.
In this album, she did not try so hard to fit all those molds the public demanded of her and scorned her for.
She lost the hope of fitting in, and along with that, he fear.
This song, this album is just symbolic of how she belongs, and she is owning that.

This song is for her fans 😊 She keeps on reinventing and changing herself just to entertain her fans. "I know they say the end is near" is her way of saying that woman in music industry is commonly thrown when they aged 30+. But then she is still doing everything to entertain fans while she was still tolerated and considered successful 😊

I saw the long pond studio sessions on Disney+ awhile ago, and in the interview for "mirrorball" she talked about how you can be a different person for everyone you know. You're a different person for your boss, your partner, your mom, or your best friend. For each you might be trying to impress them, especially in the early stages of new relationships. But in different ways. It's a mirrorball, a sphere of different colors that glow in their own special way to make up who you are. That has to do with what she wrote this song about. Trying to impress everyone. It's why she has that line "I can change any part about me to fit in."

Taylor didn't do any interviews when the record dropped; but she discusses it in The Long Pond Studio Sessions (Disney+ doc. film). It was written when she cancelled all her appearances for the Lover album tour. She was a performer, with no stage (circus shut down, clowns sent home); the entire 2-album set came about because she didn't tour her last album because of Covid.

Okay I think first of all : This song it’s all full of Analogies since the start to the End
Second . Music is Art so Can be seen or be understand in different ways according who’s listening to it ( subjective)
This is something I particularly love about this song might seemed simple (to someone how haven’t understand it)
And for me this song it’s aimed to someone, a person who’s this person shes is singing to.
I think Mirrorball it’s an out loud conversation with herself of to this person about how she see him and maybe

Those version can be : how romantic he can be, sweet, passionate, or even his weaknesses (something that happened in long talks with people you starting feel in love so you open yourself and open your heart)

I think this part it’s about cause when no ones looking she will show him. What love is and how she feel it.
I think cause the more intimate/private the relationship is, she might feel it more pure... more like real... (?) and not because other people it’s around them and she supposed to be cute and sweet with him or so. (Her relationship with her actual partner in fact it’s like this, behind cameras not public at all)
And “the shining just for you “ line, I understand it like she’s there all well dress, beautiful and “shining “ (super happy ) just for him cause his the reason of her happiness

Maybe this lines are about how she sees him vs the other partners or people in the past (doing more analogies.)

If it wasn't about her I would say that love hasn't worked out but I'm still a believer but I don't know why!! I've never been natural around people. But I try try try. But because I'm afraid to be myself but I keep doing things to keep them looking at me!!
