Yes, Björk writes, arranges and produces her own music. She does use other artists in her performances and also mechanical equipment... For example, Frosti is being played with a custom made music box, which she sits with and plays during live shows
Vespertine and Homogenic are usually considered "peak Björk", lot's of tracks I feel you're gonna like in Homogenic. The singles are all great: Jóga, Bachelorette, Hunter, Alarm Call, All is Full of Love. Recommend watching the music videos if possible, at least of All is Full of Love, gives the song another layer of resonance.
The song Aurora is about an experience she had she was little, she fell and hurt her knee, she then filled her mouth with snow to try to relieve the pain. She had to walk to school 40 minutes each way regardless of the weather and she says she used to sing to keep from being afraid. The crunchy sound is supposed to be the sound of boots walking on snow and ice. Also her name is pronounced like Bee-yerk (rhymes with jerk) and one syllable If you want faster songs Volta has some faster paced songs. They all sound better live though, she has said they were written with how they would sound live in mind. Great reaction though, will have to check out your other Björk reactions!
Oh wowww see I did not put that together, that makes so much sense especially for why the beat sounded like that crunch sounds! & okay I have to check out a live performance up here ! I appreciate you fam!!
Yea check out the Voltiac live performance. The whole concert is posted on TH-cam. The last 3 songs Hyperballad, Pluto and Declare Independence it’s like a huge, loud electronic rave party. Everyone in the crowd jumping and dancing. Have seen reaction videos to some of the songs and people are like wow I didn’t know her live shows were like this!
I’m so glad you like this album! I’d definitely say Homogenic next. Someone said watch the music video for at least All is Full of Love, and I totally agree. And, can I just say, I’m kind of baffled you don’t have more views!! I’m kind of picky when it comes to reactions, but your reactions are great :)
Yupp homogenic is definitely next! And okay I’ll watch that & I appreciate you, the big views will come in no time I believe it 🙏🏾 the right ones are here already tho 🙏🏾
my favorite album of my favorite artist of all time. I even have a little duck as part of my tattoo. she's the most creative and original of anyone I know 🧡 thanks for the amazing reaction
Great video. During Cocoon, you said "she chose the right guy for it." Which is a wonderful way to describe that song but just you wait till you listen to her album Vulnicura and hear about what happened to the relationship that the entire Vespertine album is based on. WHOOOO! Big storm coming hahah
I think cocoon is my favourite song on this album, it’s so intimate and and close but it feels so lonely, it’s uncomfortable to listen to but beautiful
this was a fun watch. i actually grew up listening to bjork. dad just played her work all the time. as early as i remember, bjork was BGM to my childhood. thankful and glad others can enjoy
Absolutely subscribing, are you kidding me? You have such a great intuition for understanding the psychology and emotion behind the sound and arrangement choices!
Yo I think you would love Homogenic. Vespertine and Homogenic are considered her best albums and Homogenic is so super intense instrumentally, vocally, and emotionally. Thank you for this review and keeping your mind open to her music! (You just gained a subscriber)
It's so cool to see new generations appreciating music that got me through my teens lol, it's legit part of my dna, amongst so many other influences. You get it. I listen to a lot of new music too and all those artists get it and put that into their music now. You should listen to her older songs w video, too, even though some of these tracks here and on post are classic, and more modern, such as the one that started it all Human Behaviour, and Big Time Sensuality (The Fluke Minimix video), and Björk - I Miss You (Dobie Rub Part One-Sunshine Mix), from the 90s rave influence days.
Homogenic was my entry into Björk's music. I listened to Homogenic for an entire month nonstop right when it was released in 1997. Only then I got myself Post and soon after that Debut. These three were my Björk experience. Vespertine was released only 4 years after Homogenic and by that I was already in to so many Trip Hop Bands that I kinda never got back around to listen to it. I did know Pagan Poetry but that was it. Fast forward a few months ago I finally listened to the whole of Vespertine and not surprisingly immediately regretted having waited for so long. I mean... it fits perfectly after Homogenic... However she has gotten so experimental after Vespertine that I don't know if I'll like the ones after Vespertine. Even though she introduced me to experimental electronic music 25 years ago I do need some sort of structure which she kinda seems to increasingly ditch after Vespertine. But then again, maybe I just need to give them another chance. Sorry, kinda digressed... Homogenic is an amazing album. You will not regret it. I think it's the best one of her first 3, maybe even of her first 4. The sound of Homogenic was so unique for the time. There's a documentary about it where she tells that she only wanted 3 layers to the whole album: - vocals - strings - beat and holy moly this concept has turned out to be mind-blowingly ingenious in my opinion. Like, I love it so much. It's so contrasty. It's brave. It's just Björk. PS: Not too important, as she kind of doesn't care herself, but just for the sake of trying if I can explain. Her name is pronounced: Bee-irk, like Bee and then irk, but don't pronounce the "bee" long. it's more like B-irk haha okay, it's really hard to explain in English....
re: Harm of Will and the feeling that her love, her man, is taking over... I mean, it's all too easy to say in retrospect, but this was often about her current partner, and the breakup album later is extremely harsh and bleak. But all the way through her career, her songs have been about loving *too* much, having too many emotions for people to take (Violently Happy, 5 Years, and the end of Pagan Poetry is very explicitly about that, the repeated "I love him" sounds anything but joyful, and "this time I'm going to keep me to myself...but he makes me want to hand myself over.") It's kinda fascinating to hear her describe her coping mechanisms, the way she flipflops between trying to control it and recklessly giving in.
so interesting...after watching you hear this for the first time i now got more context on the lyrics ...and isee this is allabout one her relationship with her baby daddy
VESPERTINE IS A MASTERPIECE 🦢🤍✨! Watch Bjork’s Royal Opera House show ( vespertine tour ) ! She’s an amazing artist in all levels ❤️🔥 congrats Very good review 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 ❤️
@@JaKarTV I appreciate YOU! Watching people fall in live with new music is a treat. Tori Amos is like Bjork in the fact that, she is in her own lane and may be an acquired taste LOLOL She is amazing, in my opinion. Tori is a vocalist and classically trained pianist who won a full scholarship to the prestigious Peabody Institute at 5 years old. May I recommend some songs to start out with if you choose to listen to her? And then, maybe an album in the future. Winter (Album or live version From "Live At Montreux 91/92), Pretty Good Year, Silent All These Years.
@@JaKarTVHow I was introduced to her. She sings a song on the train tracks, I've Seen it All, and hits this note 🫨 Obsessed since. That sound track Selma Songs, she did herself too.
Just FYI, it's pronounced byurk, one syllable. One of the most unique musical artists of all time, always nice to see someone getting it and enjoying it. Lots of people find it too weird, which is a shame.
This is a bit off topic, but I noticed you haven't listened to any Aurora. Aurora is a Norwegian singer/writer/producer/composer. She reminds me of Bjork is some ways. I'd recommend her first album "All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend". Aurora's voice is just as unique and beautiful as Bjork's, just in a different way. Bjork is also a fan of Aurora's music. Doja Cat loves her too. And Billie Eillish sites Aurora as her biggest musical influence. If you do react to Aurora, be ready to gain another audience, as there is an entire tribe of people who religiously follow Aurora reactions. Also, Pagan Poetry is my favorite from this album. It's perfection. I'd recommend watching some live performances from Bjork. She is unreal live. I think you're really going to like Homogenic. There are several really beautiful songs on that album, and the pacing is a bit different.
Wowww you just blessed me ! Okay I’m going to listen to her this month then because this style of music I’m loving and it’s really growing on me! I’m really excited for homogenic & yes pagan poetry hit me so different 🙏🏾💯🔥
