- Sit back and relax cause in today's episode we have loads of fun. We get some things done in the garden and I harvest a good amount of garlic for the first time. The piglets are growing up super fast and have lightning speed. I get to building a pig drinker using an old barrel. Plus a full summer update on the farm in this incredible heat.

Hi Chad...Piggies are doing great! Yes we hang our garlic too, works best for us with good results. Those bugs on your potatoes are the younger Colorado potatoes beetle! Need to pick off and kill. Diatomaceous earth works good on them too.

Try some wood chips or mulch or hay in Bobby and the rabbits stall. It should help with the smell

Hello the piglets are growing fast❤ The kids enjoy the animals🥰. Maggie seems like a sweetheart, she gets along with all the animals😊🤗They look like beetles. We use a spray bottle with cedar oil or tea tree oil with a couple drops of dish soap. It’s best to spray when it’s cloudy with no rain for a couple of days. The beetles love our tomato and cucumber plants ☹️
I though maybe young beetles too but some other viewers here say it’s potato bugs. I took them off already anyway, hopefully they don’t come back.

Instead of puting the black thing between your rows, you should plant your plant in it. You burn small holes in a and put your little plant in the hole. Then you get practically no weeds. Check out Cog Hill farm and try to find where he does his garden . He's a really good gardener.

Here in Tennessee we call them potato bugs. Also love the pigs. They are so cute.
That single white rabbit in the pen with that big old pot bellied pig just cracks me up…
They get along too the only bad thing is the pig sometimes put his snout on the rabbits fur and makes him all dirty.
@@HiddenSpringFarm might watch that pig though… pigs are omnivores and will eat ANYTHING… I’ve seen them kill critters that got into their pens and eat them… one of our males got hold of a opossum and had a very bloody snack… it was not pretty at all…

Those bugs are larves of the Colorado Potato Beetles.
I just copied that:
Controlling Colorado Potato Beetles
You can get rid of Colorado potato beetles, although you’ll need some patience. Start in the spring, before you plant, by removing nightshade, ground cherry and other weeds in the Solanaceae family from the garden. The beetles eat these while they’re waiting for tomatoes, potatoes and peppers.
If you have a small garden, you can try handpicking the pests and drowning them in a pail of soapy water. At the same time, inspect the undersides of leaves regularly and remove any eggs. You’ll have to be vigilant with this, especially if you live in an area where potatoes are a commercial crop. The Colorado potato beetle’s a flier and can move into a garden from other backyards or fields.

Oh Geez those piglets are something else 🍉🐷🐷🐷🐽🐷🐷🐽🐷 I used to see Monarch butterflies all the time when I was younger, but can’t remember the last one seen around here. We’re sitting pretty at between 23-27C and loving it so much that I am afraid to jinx anything by speaking up when things are going so well. Sweet sweet Bubbles is loving your touch and she is a beauty! So happy to see her enjoying touch!
I leave all the milkweed around the pasture to help the monarchs, hopefully it’s working. Bubbles is doing well and becoming more comfortable with me.

And it’s so surprising to me how quick they can run already, very strong. And their bodies aren’t soft and squishy like puppies or kittens, they are so solid like rocks.

She’s doing well, the other cats are hissing a bit but that’s normal.
The black pigment on the bill if developed is due to hormones. It is a disqualification in bantam calls for show but not for breeding. If they are hatched that way it disqualifies them but they can develop it over time. Enjoying your videos with my sweetie in order (even though I skipped around).
At first I thought it was caked on mud but then after seeing it on permanent I was like oh. I think someone said it in the comments too. Funny thing is they are the offspring of the khaki Campbell’s which are brown 🧐 Very cool.

Pigs love to wallow! His instincts are telling him to knock over the water so he can create some nice mud to roll around in. Maybe a concrete pool would fill his need to wallow but also not be as tricky to clean as mud?
(Wallowing helps them keep mosquitos and other biting bugs at bay, and also cools them down in summer months.)

I am one of those Southern fellas here in zone 9A/9B SW Louisiana dealing with some warm weather, high humidity which makes it tolerable . I remember summers like this as kid growing up here. That pvc will be the weakest link, if Billie lays on it , it breaks well no water but a nice Hog Waller.
Yeah I gotta keep an eye on that pvc…so far so good.
Hello from PI. Those look like potato bugs...I would use 7 dust. Its an insecticide.
They ate two plants pretty good but I plucked them off with pliers.
So you are swamped with work? slow down the meat chickens growth, feed them some grass and weeds so you can catch your breath and plan their harvest date. the weeds and the grass from the garlic patch can start the process, less protein and more grass, they won't die.Nice garlic crop. Haha I can’t even Remember how old they are I’d have to look it up. If I had to grab a piglet I’d have a hard time they’re so quick and Billie gets mad at me. I picked up a piglet and she growled like a grizzly 🐻
Do those pigs ever get outdoors or are they always caged in the barn.....
The piglets are less than 12 days old, so the Mama has been indoors since the birth. I’ll be letting them out soon though promise. Bobby next door has no door yet to the outside I still have to bust a hole in the barn.

Yeah Billie and I are tight, but if I pick up a piglet she sounds like a grizzly bear ready to eat me 😆
To tell the gender of most duck breeds you look at their tail feathers. Male ducks have a few curly feathers in their tails. Females have all straught feathers. This trick does not work for muscovey ducks since they are not a normal duck breed.
yes it's one of the few ways to tell the difference, their sound and colours also. But the curly tail doesn't appear until late teens, trying to differentiate at a younger age is tough but if one has a good ear can hear the two different noises they make.

According to google image search, might be Colorado Potato beetle 😬says you can pick off by hand or use a vacuum, and its best to put em all in soapy substance to kill. So sorry and hope things turn out alright!

Pigs have to lay in water to cool off. They do not sweat
Yeah they love to wallow.
I think they REALLY like mud. It cools them and also acts as a sort of sunblock. 🐖😂

Yes Bobby is the piglets Dad. The rabbit needed to be separated cause he’s a boy…a while back I had 4 boys together and they fight, two died and I separated this guy to that pen before Bobby was separated. Nobody wants boy rabbits sadly.
What is the temperature there? It seams to be really hot.
Yeah it’s pretty warm around 30c
Can you put the rabbit with the cats.
I wouldn’t just cause when I let the cats out I’d have to always be sure the rabbit don’t get out then when the cats come back…
QUESTION What is the plan for the pigs? Bobby and Billy will overrun you with piglets And when will the piglets get slop?
Quick answer is I’ll be trying to sell most of them. I’m thinking at this point I’ll keep 1 girl with Billie and 1 boy with Bobby. Bobby & Billie will be kept separate unless we’re breeding. If by slop you mean real food the general guideline is for them to be fully weaned at 8 weeks but these guys are already trying to get Mamas food and nibble on fruits here and there. They still need to be on milk mostly for now though.
@@HiddenSpringFarm Slop is watered down feed. I watch a guy on yt Just a few a acres. He grows pigs out for meat though.

The dark bill is from hormones. I have a pekin and a pekin x khaki that are both pure white. When the 2 girls started to lay eggs they got little dark green spots on them and over time my oldest one is fully black bill now and her daughter is about half Black abc half orange
It’s not from getting it dirty
I did think that too at first
I did some research and found out some do this with hormone change and the more they laid eggs the darker it gets
As for the khaki Campbells they were created from mallard , Rouen and runner ducks. If any of them came from lines of broken purebred the white gene could come back
My pekin mom and Khaki dad had chocolate ( all girls ) and black ( all boys )
The girls look khaki the boys look more mallard as adults
The son got mom and she had white babies again along with some chocolate and some black
Hope this makes sense on how you got white

I did a big pumpkin patch this year so I can feed the ducks and goose through the winter with extra treats
looks like the ducks are both female there is no curled feather on the tails that the males have
That’s the thing, one did have the sexy tail back in the spring.
I just checked the flock and all the drakes no longer have the curly tail I guess it faded after breeding season, same as their colours not as vibrant. Their heads start out green in the spring, now they’re just dark brown.
Female ducks quack really loud and males can't - they make quiet noises.
Yeah the drakes make more of a grunting sound 🦆 That’s one of the ways you can distinguish their sex from a young age by the sound they make.
@@HiddenSpringFarm It is the best way according to all the duck sights I have checked (also - I have two female Pekins). So - maybe you can tell whether or not your two 'white' ducks are male and female that way. I'm betting that they have some sort of recessive gene(s) that causes them to be more white than normal for that breed.

No plans at this point. I’ll be selling them, but saying that if I don’t sell them all I definitely can’t keep all of them.
