Just found your channel really enjoy it. Thanks for sharing your farm life . We are West Tennessean's ourself . Been retired military for 15 years . I was raised on a farm, have always missed it. Could kick own butt for not farming at retirement. All though my husband and I are in our 60's and 70's we're seriously considering fencing part of our property and raising a few pigs and cows to harvest for our family . Your channel inspires me to do that . Keep up the good work. God bless.
Awesome and thanks for watching! Feel free to ask any questions, even though I may not always have the best advice! Good to hear from another person here in God’s country!
Update: it’s been about 24 hours since we filmed this video and neither has calved yet! Get those guesses in and we’ll announce the winner in the next video!
Not at all. That’s the single biggest reason we don’t shift completely to a stocker operation. Cow/calf is a year round grind, but there’s nothing better than seeing that new creation! Thanks for watching!
Alright I have to say.....it's time to invest in one of those foam things to keep the wind noise down. Besides that another good episode. That one was feeling her Brahman roots.
I’ll have to look into that. We run a pretty amateur operation, so I’m unaware of the product! Let me know if you have any more details about it or a link to it. Thanks!
It’s definitely a different way of life, but it comes with it’s own challenges. I feel like I get kinda the best of both worlds. It’s my side hustle, so it is kinda my relaxing get away. My day job definitely pays better and allows us to avoid some of the stresses that come with the uncertainty of farming/ranching. Thanks for watching!
lots of hard work, early mornings and dark sides of the moon. But I wish I had went into farming for myself when I was young. Farming isn't just for men. I would encourage you to go for it. Start small, like a house and 40 acres, barn....Or just find a 5 acre piece of ground with a house. But you can't sleep in, your animals need to be cared for before your own needs. When I was growing up, we never bought store meat, eggs, or milk. Mostly staples, we canned from the garden.
905 would be my guess. Always enjoy your videos. I'm near retirement from the military and am wanting to get a few cows on my small piece of land to give me a purpose in life after retirement.
@@HurricaneCreekFarms I try to always watch your videos. They are always very informative and seem true to life in the day to day operations of raising cattle. Please keep the videos coming and I will keep soaking up the knowledge you are sharing. Thanks!
@@HurricaneCreekFarms I prolly wouldn't be trying to win a hat if I'd just won the super bowl. LOL This is Matt from middle TN if you remember from the Podcast. Enjoy the content on your channel. Keep it up.
I know you are a vet but with heifers it is better to have a smaller calf & maybe they calves won't reach the desired weight at time of sale but the future potential calves you will raise out of those heifers/ cows will stand a fighting chance. If by using a bigger birth weight bull, you are hauling off heifers and who couldn't pull through/doing C-section(ruined cow) cutting calves out/ pulling them. Factor in man hours watching the heifers, pulling the calf hoping & praying you can save them both. It's better not to make a fortune on the first crop of heifers calves than slow your breeding stock by a whole year because you have lost half of your calves or momma's.
I'm thinking DW71. The killer cow you need to make friends with before she surprises you. Better a than the "percussion adjustment" approach. A nice Second Generation Dodge Ram 2500 4 x 4 with a Cummins would make a real nice farm truck.
I’d love to upgrade to a truck like that. She’s still in the shop. Looking at about $1500 in repairs. I anticipated it wouldn’t be cheap with all the little issues we suspected.
@@HurricaneCreekFarms Is yours a 6.0 or 7.3? I believe you are on the far west border of Tennessee. My son-in-law just opened up a new shop in Savannah, TN. Intregrity Diesel. He works on just about anything diesel. Probably way too far out of your way.
Yeah, she may need to, but she weans one of the best calves every year! I have a nice baldy heifer out of her from last year that’s going to make a nice replacement.

Wish I could work on a farm and get use to the farm life. It seems so much more relaxing than the rat race in life.

905. How many head per acre are you running?
We run one cow-calf pair per 1.5 to 2 acres. With our stockers, we are right at 1 per acre.

I agree. We use low birth weight/calving ease bulls on our heifers. Just turned out two nice Angus bulls with them two weeks ago.
going with 905. Love the videos & the Podcast!
