- We are officially back in the stocker cattle business as the first of our 2022 stockers arrive. We get them processed (vaccinated, dewormed, castrated, etc). Of course, we have an update on Forrest Gump and get the cowherd moved to new pasture. Thanks for watching, eat beef, and God bless!

Nothing like those tornado drills at school (k-8 1990-1999). I always found it funny (at my school at least) our hallways had solid glass doors at each end. Why, yes, let’s leave the safety of the cinder block windowless classrooms, for the hall with glass doors. You will be safer, just cover your head with your arms, lol 🤣😂
But being from tornado alley, you hear sirens or get tornado warning alerts, you go outside and see if you really need to take cover or not.
Exactly! Our school is all cinder block, so it’s almost certainly safer than most of the kid’s homes. We definitely go outside to look when the sirens go off!
Turn the big bridge, cattle guard, long ways and drag it to the ditch with the sxs or tractor.
I definitely thought about that, but I decided to utilize those smaller ones. That big one will be put to use at some point. Thanks for watching!

There are a few spots along the creek that are deep enough to hold a few fish, but I bet you have bigger & better creeks that you get to fish in! Thanks for watching

What are you using to put weight on them. Just grass ?
Yes, they get about a pound of feed per day just to keep them calm and coming to feed bunk.
Hey man love your content and your videos. Was wondering if you could do a video or an episode of talk dirt to me on why you buy bulls vs steers is it just not enough steers at the barn your buying or are the bulls more profitable over the steers? In our experience with our stocker operation we are usually seeing an 50-80 weight gain difference with the steers gaining more than the ones we buy as bulls and band. Just wondering if you are experiencing anything different or similar than we are! Love the content! God bless.

What brand of corral set up do you have?

Have you done a video on the new squeeze chute.
Have not done a video specifically on the chute like a review or anything like that. I have been pretty happy with it after running a total of about 60 head through it.
How much weight do you expect to put on the steers before selling?
They typically gain right around 1lb/day just grazing. We typically buy this time of year and sell at thanksgiving, so expect about 250lbs of gain.
What's your thoughts on the C & B Chute after running the stockers through it? Comparison to the Preifert? I'm getting ready to buy a squeeze, and like the looks of the C & B. Why did you go with the auto head gate over the manual? Thanks for the input!!
I definitely like the auto catch on the C&B versus the manual priefert head gate. I also like the lower side door opening on the c&b for access to castrate/band. I’d say the squeeze and tail gate is good on both. Overall, I’d buy another C&B over the priefert. Our priefert has stood the test of time, though, and only time will tell if the C&B holds up! What are your plans for the stocker steers? Are you going to breed them and sell to people?
No, we’ll graze them until November and sell them as one full truckload. They usually go to Iowa to a feed lot at that point. Some of these were already castrated and we banded (one castration method) the ones who were still bulls, so these guys will have no reproductive function. Steers are more desirable and valuable as feeder animals. Good questions & thanks for watching!
What age and weights are these steers please
Oh man, this was a while ago. They were between 550-600 lbs. That’s usually just about always where we buy them
Haven't watched whole video yet.is that a calicrate bander? had a calf one of his test. Was side ways in sack and couldn't get California band on it
Yes, it is the callicrate. We like it for these bulls that are bigger than what we feel comfortable cutting.

Is that a C and B chute? How do you like it?
It sure is. We’ve been real happy with it. Have a priefert on our other farm. There’s things a like better about each of them. For the money, the C&B is a dang good product.

why do you castrate the males?
Stops undesirable and unsafe behaviors. Bulls will fight, mount each other, and just generally have more behavioral issues.
Where did u get uer stockers .did u use an order buyer and who did u use to haul them and how much the charge
We used an order buyer. $4.50/mile for trucking and they were shipped by the same sale barn that we bought them through. They have that ground load trailer that can haul 45-50 head of those size calves.

@@codyryan6866 dad doesn’t see too many these days, the rest of us will see 25-30 per day on a real busy day. Ideally, we like to keep it closer to about 20.
