  • part one, the introduction to a 5 part mini-series: the reasons that I think cause the bad writing we all see in gacha mini movies and series.
There won't be a set schedule yet for the next parts, I'll probably come up with one when the 2nd part comes up though. There will also be subtitles done to the best of my abilities~
Like the disclaimer said, I'm not a professional, I've only really used common knowledge and writing understanding to form this. I also don't mean any offense, like the title of this video lol
Also like I said in the outro, this was cut from a script that originally assumed this would be one whole video, so please excuse any awkward cuts in structure or references
So-I usually write all I have to say in my comments and I don't know what to put in descriptions so uhm-here are credits instead lol

you know what went wrong in most stories in my *opinnion* is that they start the climax wayyy to early- and that might cause the beginning of the story not really written well and people wont easily understand the beginning- which in my opininon is actually very important to the storyline because there will be the basic knowledge of the whole mini movie in that section (ex. character names, important details, what cause the climax to happen, etc)

    • @starpeep5769
      @starpeep5769 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

yeah, a story needs to have a HOOK but not too intense. the pacing should be like a rollercoaster, going up going down the up is increasing and the down don't let you down so that you can wait and not raise your expectation then THE climax is the greatest up and its super thrilling then theres the resolution/conclusion where everything is finished/solved and the intensity drops, or it just cuts off to be a cliffhanger but it has to be done well idk but i think maybe foreshadowing will help?

    A small rant on Characterization:
A gentle reminder to ADD CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. THIS CAN MAKE OR BREAK A SERIES. 9/10 times, your characters need to change in some way throughout the story. Static characters are boring, like, REALLY boring. In fact, a LOT of series and MMs would be 5x better if a character had moments to reflect on themselves and change. It doesn't even have to be a good change. A character becoming less of a good person over a story is also a viable option, but P L E A S E give character development. Also, give characters a backstory. This can be an explanation on why certain characters have certain flaws and strengths. As well as that and I cannot stress this enough, GIVE CHARACTERS FLAWS. If a character is perfect (and this is an issue plaguing many stories) its a boring character. Flaws are what balance characters out, and make characters seem more human and relatable. Completely good or completely evil characters are boring. Flaws and traits can (and should) be slightly imbalanced, but you should try to give every character both positive or negative traits.
    Rant over.

Well normally to start a story you should make the character have a misbelief which means something that they believe about the world that isn’t true it’s a lie for example thinking they can’t trust anyone because their parents/parent abandoned them when they were younger or something
You should first come up with that misbelief while making a story then as they go through the story end up learning the “truth”
The misbelief is actually the opposite of the theme
Which is something you want to change in the world
So to put this in order
If you want to teach people to not judge others based on looks
You would make a story where the theme is to not judge people based on looks
So your mc’s misbelief would be that they always judge people based on looks without getting to know them
And as they get through the story they learn to stop doing that so they learn the “truth” of your story
I’m working on a story right now about change and how people can change to become better people and about perseverance and I’m using those techniques and I love it

sO TRUEEE!! the whole point about the execution and having a vague concept is really really true. although a lot of the concepts arent the most original,, (looking at you alphas) any good concept needs a good execution to get the point across well.
the age is also a really big factor too. i don't expect a 9 year old to write an amazing film, and it's easy to engage in the "mob mentality" of making those "boss is my ex husband" videos, but if we don't start to critique them (respectfully and in a way to help them improve) nothing will ever be done.

My problem with gacha stories is they always glarify and justify anything, like kidnapping, murdering and stuff, the story always doesn't make sense and never realistic, never found one that is actually 3 dimensional. The story always too good to be true, phony, falsely explaining sensitive topic or avoided it to probably avoid being cancelled. In my opinion, sometimes sensitive topics can be explained and make fun of because jokes can sometimes make the victim feel better, as long as it's not justifying it. And sometimes too obsessive with lgbtq character, that lgbtq ruined it's character. For example, Zander, started as a actual character, now turned into a gay stereotype. Creating an Lgbtq character isn't so hard, but Lgbtq character mostly existed for the ships. Every character mistakes can make a difference on the story, changes their life, that's what's makes the viewers continue watching. Makes sure to only not leave an emotion scar on the character because of their backstory, but also make sure they suffer in the present, give them challenge, give them difficult choices, not a crush or a hot boy, give them an impossible maze and make them finish it. Give your character a persona, a coward, a cool guy, a workaholic, socially awkward, and make sure they are actually like that, not just you describing it, action speaks louder than words, that's how people wouldn't see them as just a nice character, give them something they will be known for, for example, socially awkward character would have more stutter and stops and "ummm" in dialogue, and people don't get what they're saying and felt awkward socializing with them, they seem more odd when talking, often struggle with people, but don't always just include " Ugh! I'm so socially awkward", because if it's actually socially awkward, people would know it just by looking at the character's action, including too much is annoying. Give your character flaw and strength, every character somehow has flaw and strength, no such thing as perfect character, the Mary sue problem is coming from how the character was forcefully portrayed in a good and perfect light. And there's no wrong putting your main character in a bad light, doing horrible messed up stuff, don't try so hard to make your character look good, their bad light can sometime make character look real, because they can seem flawed, but still don't justify their actions, give them consequences. Growth or character development is important too, you don't need to fix the flaw, you just need the character trying to improve the flaw, make the character realize the wrong of their actions and make them try to improve their flaw, the flaw still there but it's improving, because it's not easy to fix the flaw you had. Spread the lesson you wanna spread to make it seem deep and meaningful, but don't spread them too open nor hidden, give some clue and let the viewers figure out. And it doesn't always has to be teenagers, it can be about a depressed single mom in her 40s having no custody, or a 7 yr old electing as president and he doesn't know anything. My tips on romance is don't make the protagonist love interest don't always has to be the flirty boy she met one time. It can be someone special to her. Optional, but try to set up some ex, she can learn from her past mistake and make better choices in her love life. It's important to know that the character trauma affect their decision, and their view of life. Make your character had different opinions on something, what they see life as. Humor are very important too, because humor can entertain viewers, let them enjoy the show, don't use overused humor, it's better to made one yourself, because it always came off as cringeworthy. With the voice acting, most voice actor voices came off as too fake and unrealistic, sound too anime, somehow always sound too cheerful and force, talk too slow probably because you tried too hard to include the detail of your voice, didn't have the vibe at all. And their voices never fit their character, I would recommend using different accents to fit the character other than British and American, they would maybe try southern american, African, New York accent and etcs. And also recommend they add more personality into a character, put more uniqueness into a character's voice instead of just the same voice but different pitch, not afraid to try. More importantly don't be overly biased on characters and neglected the character you don't like, do not always make fan service stuff instead of getting to the plot. For gacha voice acted series, please fix your audio of the dialogue of your character, don't ever make a pause after a character just finished their lines, make another character quickly replied, not wait for a sec then replied, and don't ever make it too quiet, because it can be awkward, if you want the characters to walk away as the ending scene at least make a conversation to break the awkwardness, I suggest edited the audio of a scene first then make the video. But if it supposed to be quiet, make the scene have a purpose for that, or else it's just awkward. And lastly, the twist, plot twist can impressed the viewers, and make your series unpredictable.

Ive noticed that the voice acted stories usually have a bit more variety and flavour besides the generic gacha stories. Sure those stories tend to be fantasy/supernatural yet they tend to have their own identidy in some way.

small rant, or you should say big rant:
    CHARACTERS
The creators make one dimensional characters, which I mean their bland, and have no depth at all which can be boring with their predictable personality and actions. Nobody's creative at times. Its weird how anyone doesn't catch onto this, there's nothing fresh and new making the characters so bland and predictable, backstories are good too, development is great, but their impact shouldn't always be good, it could be bad, the character needs weaknesses and strengths to balance them, most glmm have characters the creators make which most likely has nothing to them since they don't explore new possibilities.
    SETTINGS
The setting is important and vital, it should impact the character and actions, event, and more, the character should be able to use stuff in the setting to make the scene enganging and come to life. Really alot of school settings-😭
    DESIGN
I actually thought that when gacha club released people would make their designs interesting , but no, the same clothing, they should add detail to the designs, maybe to somewhat explain their personality. example: a cheerful and loud person wears loud clothing, a smart guy wears sophisticated clothing.
    PLOT
Plot is important, it helps make the events make sense, but people aren't creative, which leaves no creativity to flow, its mostly alphas, the plot should make sense and get them engaged.
example of a plot is a detective finding out who's behind a death. plot twists and turns can help it flow, but most glmms have random twists and turns making scenes that the viewer can't understand, either its quick or it comes in from nowhere.
The conclusion is that they need to execute the story correctly and get the point across. glmms need to step up their game.
ik im late but this is a problem to be talked about, You really covered it well.

I hate that all I can ever find is romances, so I am writing a story that is not at all based around romance. It’s about a 14 year old trans guy and his bestfriend. As he transitions and learns I want to teach the viewers as well. The main goal throughout the whole series is to come out to his Mum, which he will eventually do at the end. I want it to be a wholesome and educational series. As someone who wants to be a novelist I make sure to put as much research in as possible. So I hope it works out.

ALOT confusing to even read. So I tried searching up tuts and other stuff but nothing was helping until I saw this. I am very very thankful that you made this video because now I can actually work on my script without any hesitations or confusion. I also agree that some gacha mini-movies have been using a lot of common stories and I think we should all make our own original ideas but can just use the same idea of some other video and give credits to make our community not so copy-ish and a lot more fun.

3:10 I'm glad someone can actually not put Chinese and actually call one of the languages.
As part of a Cantonese speaking family myself (yet my immediate family speak English and we communicate to each other that way - my parents both talk to each other in Cantonese when speaking to each other and not my sibling or I), I find it a bit strange why people just put Chinese / Chinese (simplified) / Chinese (Traditional) ~ These are writing used of course, seen a lot in Google Translate - which doesn't give exact correct translations as everyone knows but hey, why am I saying this. There is a difference but some may not see it? My siblings sees Cantonese when spoken, kind of sharp at the end of each word (I do not know how to describe it).
China and Taiwan I am pretty sure speak Manderin, but Hong Kong and all those other Chinese spoken languages (apart from Japanese of course, that only uses some / most of the characters) I think speak Cantonese; you are free to correct me if I am wrong.
I find it unreasonable as to why people just put Chinese. Anyone is free to rant on about why people just put Chinese instead of one of the languages in the replies of this comment, I am simply stating my opinion on the matter. This is a pretty long rant / comment, so I will leave it there.

Okay I've got to rant about this one thing that has always annoyed me in GLMM/GCMMs, "Gacha logic". Gacha Logic is a pretty well known thing in the Gacha community where whenever a certain plot point, thing, or action in a GLMM/GCMM doesn't make sense the creator will make the excuse of Gacha Logic. I understand the community has a huge percentage of younger people who have little to no writing experience but please atleast try to have things make sense? And if a certain thing in your GCMM/GLMM has no justification, is it really that worth it to add it?
    (OK, rant over)

Okay I’m trying to learn how to use Gacha to its potential to hopefully be noticed by few and I’ve really taken and interest to mini movies. After reading the comments I want to make a summary of an idea. Instead of roasting me please give some tips to making it more interesting as I have never made a mini movie before,
Basically it’s called “just a side character” or something the title doesn’t really matter rn. The premise is basically 2 best friends which eventually drifted apart find eachother one day after one left on a journey to save their family (only to find out they were dead)
However it seems that the one who was left behind cannot remember ( this will be 1) the other no (this will be 2 )matter how hard 2 tries. It also seems 1 has found a new love interest because (further adding more depth) 1 was often outcasted and ignored, making 1 and 2’s relationship more special was then severed when 2 left causing 1 to go in a state of loneliness and vulnerability. That’s why this new love interest is so special to 1. For most of the movie 2 makes very desperate attempts to regain 1’s memory but each time 1 pushes him away as in 1’s view this is just some stalking weirdo. Eventually 1 gets with their new love interest leaving 2 heart broken. 2 then gives up on trying to make 1 remember and settles for a life of crime as now he has lost all will to lead a good life (think about it, 1 has no family or love and now crime is the only thing to give 1 a good thrill) one day while carrying on with 1’s normal business 1 ends up having to kill someone because they witnessed 1’s crime. Turns out that was 2, and feeling so much shame guilt and regret, 1 turns themself in and gets a Hefty sentence as people thought death was too good for 1. And since I like bad endings he lives with the fact that he killed his one and only love with his own hands and eventually passes away in his cell 😁

    okay here's my tips:
SHOW DON'T TELL. "Oh shes a tomboy and not like the other girls" SHOW US. "she plays sports and watches anime" THAT PROVES NOTHING. SHOW DONT TELL!
Add more depth to the character's personality and overall character. Their age, pronouns, species, backstory, and who they are as a person are all things to consider. of course, don't make your character all perfect and have no flaws, thats boring asf. let me give you an example of one of my characters:
    Name: Erok
    Age: 19
    Pronouns: She/her
    Species: Guardian angel
    Personality: Cheerful, kind, loving, playful
Flaws: Clumsy, naive, constantly saying the dumbest shit, childish
(and i'm not adding her backstory because i'm lazy)
be open to criticism, there's a difference between hate and just constructive criticism. don't get mad when someone gives the slightest amount of critique.
    And my final tip:

Hey so i have a question im working on the script of a series and well im sorta confused
do i take the script fast so that it ends faster and not too many eps are needed or do i take it at a slower/steady pace and try to get my point across?

    • @gingerbreadd_
      @gingerbreadd_  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

well there are many factors to consider, but do note pacing of a story is pretty important to get right so viewers won't either feel bored with too slow or feel confused/not emotionally invested enough with too fast
it's completely fine if you want a shorter series if you can compress things, but it's also very risky to go too fast for the sake of that. It depends on what you prioritize, if you're making the series for fun then yeah you can speed it up, maybe by combining scenes and removing fillers-but if you prioritize your message you really gotta take it slower.
This is all pretty dependent on factors i don't know, but do note series in gacha have a high 'discontinued' rate haha, so consider your goal with your series and just make sure you're having fun. The pacing is def important to do it right, like if it's an action or fantasy adventure faster pace is better or if it's casual romance or slice of life a smoother pace is better, but genre doesn't matter as much as concept when it comes to pacing so think about your concept's needs when pacing
Anyways hope this helps, if you have another question you can ask if you want, and good luck ^^ ✨
