- When I found this knife it seemed huge. I imagined how the Old Scary Butcher chopped his victims (pigs and cows) with it into juicy and tasty steaks. LOL
Of course in this video I will restore the former power of the Butcher's Knife.

Nice job, the weld on the cutting edge won't hold a sharp edge for very long though as its mild steel. Tip on tins of varnish/paint is to securely close the lid when you're done with them then store them upside down. You'll never have to break through to the good stuff again.

In Russia, such knives are called "women's knife". In the 19-20 century, they were made from the most junk iron. We usually sell these finds for scrap.

All that work in making those little wedges, only to mess up the assembly. You clamped it in only one direction when it needed to be clamped both ways.

The remaining hole is very regular shape. Most likely it is not easy. Perhaps it served to set the correct sharpening angle. I've seen this on old axes.
Most likely when new there was a weight that was fitted in that hole

I'd have altered the big hole into a bottle opener, so the knife was able to do more than just cut food!

Cool... why didn't you patch up the small hole?
The hole is very regular shaped, probably used to maintain the correct sharpening angle. I have seen similar ones on antique axes. I have not come across knives of this size, so there is a possibility that the hole serves this purpose. Perhaps it was used for convenient storage by hanging the knife on a nail.😀

Your not supposed to quench a blade in water. The steam will cause the blade to fracture and have weak spots. Your only supposed to use oil. Nonetheless I still enjoyed the video. If thay wasn't water then I apologize.
