Filp flops will ruin those children's feet! That is what I remember hearing when we got our first flip flops in late '50s early '60s (yes, I'm vintage). But mom & dad let us wear them. Really good campfire blocks. Visit was very interesting today. See you tomorrow.

Salvages made into blocks of fabric & used in things such as tote bags, baskets, pouches of all shapes, pillows etc. would be lots of fun. Great if you want to play but don’t have enough salvages for a quilt.

I'm no where near ready for a Red Zinger sew along, but I think it would be fun to watch from the sidelines, so when I have enough selvages I'll be ready to make it. I grew up in Honolulu back in the 50's/60's so I lived in flip flops, or what we referred to as slippers. Love your quilt design!

We called them flip flops, and thongs, and zories. My family and friends tease me about wearing mine well into November. I always say that I wear them until it snows. I sometimes claim that it is because of the time I lived in Hawaii. Flip flops all the time there. That's my story.....

I think you just distilled your “brand” for me. You are a major motivator! You are all about sharing process and motivation with your followers. That is greatly enhanced by you daily videos and of course your quilt alongs. But I’m not doing your quilt alongs and I still come to watch you every day. Because you keep me thinking about quilting and help me identify and organize my own process, and remind me that the path isn’t always smooth. Now to figure out how to “sell” your brand to more people. Because I really want to see you hit 100,000 subscribers.

My precision skills with quilting have greatly improved since doing some of Pat's projects, watching her videos, and using her excellent books. Now, I need to learn how to layer and quilt by tops. The collection over the upstairs railing is increasing monthly. Quilting is my therapy! Hope you join in soon!

Even to my granddaughter’s wedding last August I wore a pair of jeweled fancy “thong’s “. It was almost 90 degrees and everyone was trying to be as cool as possible. Gotta love them😎

Thongs! Yes, we called them thongs growing up. My flip-flop story is about my daughter, now an adult. She was 2 or 3 years old and we were at the family beach house in Southern Maryland, getting ready to go out to dinner. With 3 children, we didn't go out to dinner often. Well, Kristen's flip-flop caught on a groove on the sidewalk and she went down on her face. On the way down, she bit her tongue and when I picked her up, blood was everywhere. We rushed to the local hospital's emergency room. I was not happy to be going to a country hospital, but it turned out the ER was run by a big hospital from Washington, D.C. Some big-city doctors like to live in peaceful Southern Maryland! Well, the ER was not peaceful with our daughter! They wrapped her in a papoose carrier while they stitched her up. They suggested I stand outside the room as she would be mad that I was not "saving" her from these strange people. The screaming was even louder than when she fell! After her tongue was stitched up by a plastic surgeon from the big city hospital, we headed back to the cottage. With the tongue surgery, she was not able to suck her thumb and clung to me for days. By the time her tongue healed, she had forgotten about her thumb and gave it up. Her older brothers did not give up their thumbs for several more years! We are headed to the family house on Sunday for a week with our children and grandchildren. We hope that there are no flip-flop accidents during our week at the beach! Our grandchildren are the 6th generation to enjoy this beautiful spot on the Patuxent River in Southern Maryland!

I wear my flip flops a lot. I used to wear thongs, so I can imagine the lady's grands when she told them she decorated her thongs. While I don't have any decorated for me I did make a pair for my granddaughter using strips of fabric cut with pinking shears then tied as many as possible around the straps. It made kind of a shaggy look. I thought they were cute and often thought I would make me a pair, but alas I have never made them. Maybe one day I will make some for me. Meanwhile I will just keep watching your videos and absord all the great inspiration. Thank you for being you and sharing your thoughts and projects with us.

I'm not into flip flops personally but I have a friend who is and who asked me to make a memory quilt for her. Part of my design plans for it is to include a "flip flops" block next to the vacation pictures that she wanted included on the quilt. Loved Cindy's "wood and flames" campfire block --- I'm big on literal interpretations of a theme! Have really enjoyed all the variations you've done with the 2-1/2" squares scrap quilts. Would you consider adding a separate page to your quilt gallery with just those? Although you've made so many, that might be a lot of work to set up! The FOMO part of me would love a formal Zinger SAL. Maybe do it as a monthly one rather than weekly? This way those that don't have accumulated selvedges can collect them from the projects they work on each month and those of us who already have too much on their plates (guilty!) will have more time to try to get each block done.

Thongs! When I was growing up, we called them flip flops, but my grandmother called them thong sandals. I have been teaching 25 years and my first year teaching at one of our meetings going over dress code, and the principal said we were not allowed to wear thongs. I’m sitting there thinking, how are they going to know what kind of underwear we have on… then hours later it dawned on me that he must’ve meant thong sandals… flip flops!

That storey about thongs was funny! I've always called those shoes flip flops. But thinking back as a kid, we never knew such a thing as thong underwear, so we probably used both terms and knew what we were talking about. But now that we're older, it can go either way!! So funny! Thanks for sharing that one.

About feet attire… When I was a child, they were called Thongs… A tad older, they were called Flip-flops… In my 30s, my former husband called them Slaps (because of the sound they made when walking, and that made sense to me)… in my 40s, we lived in Hawaii where they are called slippers (or slippars as it would be pronounced in pidgin). Of these options, I like Slaps the best because it is the most descriptive term. Fun topic!

Spit recs ruler is a must for perfect split recs which in some patterns need perfect execution. There are other ways to make them but none quicker and more effective than this. If you have lots of units consider cutting multiple pieces using a base rectangle. Calculate the rectangle size that two units make. Cut rectangles for the strip height and width. Then line up the ruler on left side of rectangle and cut once. No flipping and realigning. I cut through 4 layers. For prints RST or WST for mirrored units. I had to make many of these for a quilt pattern and adopted this method. So much quicker to cut this way. You are going to love Deb’s ruler. Split rects are as n underutilized block

I'm voicing my worries to you as a friend. If you do the red zinger as a sew along, will that mean the Susan Ache scrappy project from Sweater Weather will get postponed again? I bought the book when the calendar first listed it as a future project in early 2022, then it got bumped to Fall. I've been anxiously waiting. I love all the patterns in that book and can't wait to sew a scrappy version along with you. Please let's bump it up if you have time for more sew alongs, and schedule the new ones after it
