Thank you for still releasing a video for us this week even after losing Lucky, Eric. I don't know about others but the teardowns are a highlight of my week.
Sorry to hear about Lucky Eric. I know your pain. We lost our Buddy 2 years ago. He was with us for 10 years. He was a rescue we nursed back to heath and gave us so much joy. Prayers for you and your family. You did not have to do a teardown considering your loss, but you did. Respect from this 67 yr old dog lover. Life goes on.🙏🙏
We appreciate your efforts Eric! You spoil us with videos even when going through hard times. Wish you the best and take some time for yourself :) we will all wait patiently each week!
I enjoyed this one too as a fellow Nissan tragic. They made some truly unique and amazing cars all the way from the Datsun days up till the late 90's. For me, the R32 GTR is the most iconic jdm car ever made, and the GU Patrol was the pinnacle of 4x4 platforms. Sadly they lost their way in the early 2000's.
Had 2 510s in my teens. (68’ 4 door and 71’ 2 door. Loved the 1.6l engines. But my favorite engine later in life was the Honda H22. Much more power and loved to rev.
@Angl0sax0nknight hard to beat Honda when it comes to normally aspirated performance engines. But I was very much taken in by the turbo jdm stuff. Growing up for me was all about SR20's, RB's, JZ's and 13B's. And unfortunately RB26's were a pipe dream then as they were almost as stupidly expensive as they are now.
Everything that follows is 100% true!! My e250 work van started revealing some pretty major problems. I was tracking down each thing 1 by 1 with help from my main mechanic and after every fix, a new problem was revealed. To the point I was pretty much done throwing money into it. My neighbor, 5 houses down, who I had never met before this fateful day. Was taking his daughter to school. Somehow he passed out, I live right at the turn of the road. So if one decides to not turn and go straight they would run right into my driveway! I have a split level house where the driveway drops down a bit, but the yard is technically “raised” above the driveway the further down to the garage you go. Anyway, truck was back in to the garage. My wife’s broken down UnDriveable car was next to it. While he was only going 15-20mph, that raised yard meant he went in over the truck bumpers right into the engine. Which In turn pushed the truck into the other car which smashed into the concrete wall on the other side of my drive. Both cars were a total loss and I got around $15k for the 2 of them and bought a new truck!! I never get that “lucky”. But I had 2 worthless cars buy me a decent new work van for free. Was.. not.. upset about it.
1. Condolences on your fur baby. A tough project, like this one, can help get your mind off it for awhile. 2. Hooray for vice grips - a rare cameo on this channel. 3. After the first piece of lumber went splintering, you should've seriously used the Safety Tote or some safety glasses. Scott, at Kentucky Ballistics, can vouch for safety glasses. His (shooting) glasses were effective when his 50 blew up (though that wasn't the primary problem at the time). Thank you for the video.
Honestly was worth the extra wait for this engine teardown. Sorry to hear about you guys losing Lucky. I have a 1998 Nissan Frontier with this engine in it and lets just say that truck should never see the road again. Rust everywhere and thats besides the hole in the side of the block and the missing 3rd, 4th and reverse gears. Been waiting to see this engine on the channel and finally the wait is over!
Thank you for putting this video out Eric, especially under the circumstances. Losing a pet is never easy, my thoughts are with your family - please take care of yourself and make sure you take some time out if you need it.
a month ago when I blew mine up the first thing I did was search ur channel if you did one and you hadn’t, this week as I go to take it apart this pops up, thank you for all your videos 🙏🏻
So sorry to hear about your dog, they become such a huge part of our lives don't they 😢. Top marks for your perseverance on taking the bottom end apart lol, that took real effort!
I love watching your videos on Sunday nights man. It’s definitely something I look forward to, and it makes tomorrow being Monday a little less dreadful. I’m sorry about your dog.
I have an old guy tip on using the wiggly in tight places: slide a short section of heater hose on the wiggly. It lets you get into places where you can't reach to get the socket on the nut. Also works for yard long extensions for flange nuts on exhaust manifolds. Us old guys are lazy.
Eric, you are a true legend, this has to be the funniest teardown yet, your videos give so much entertainment, but please take the time to be with your family and give them the support that you all need at this time. If 'we' have to wait a bit for the next teardown, then that's just fine. Very best wishes from Cornwall, South West England.
I remember that Ford 351 teardown... you cracked a joke about it being on the Titanic, if I recall correctly. And if you had decided to skip the weekly upload to take time to deal with the loss of your dog instead of putting it off a couple days, I think a lot of us would have understood.
Sorry to hear about your dog! My sister has the ka24 in her Altima. 240k+ of the hardest life a car can have. Finally ran it hot enough times that it let coolant into the combustion chamber. She drove it several more times after that happened and finally I told her to park it.
I think the car was still running and driving, by someone without a budget. Fill the water everyday to get them where ever, then they had the crash. It got towed and parked in a shed somewhere maybe, and left for years. As you say time is not a friend of a neglected car. I really felt for your engine stand while you were making kindling wood. As always thanks for the entertainment, you are a legend!
I have had the to take many old engines apart. It is never easy. I like your persistence. Sorry about the hound dog tho. Never an easy thing losing one. Have lost 6 over the years. Is fun watching you. Thank you!
We had to say goodbye to our Miss Sadie four months ago, and even she would have thought that…… …… ….the slo-mo launching of that last piston would have been the perfect place for the Chariots of Fire music.
I bet you don't have a gym membership...beating these locked up engines apart is your weekly workout Eric🙂 I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your dog...family...even furry ones..are priceless in the joy they bring us. Thanks for the great teardown/workout video as always Eric🙂 It sure put up one helluva fight!!
Man, that was fun! I have a total sense of success even though I did absolutely nothing! My arms are even fatigued! I can only imagine how you must feel. Thanks Eric. You managed a tough disassembly with very little damage and no injuries to us or yourself! Way to go! And hopefully you were able to get a bit of frustration relief after a rough week. Thanks for a really fun and funny video! You made my weekend improve considerably! You also invented a new way to split wood! 😂
Penetrater!!!X2 To finish the tear down!!! Great video! I am so sorry for your loss. It is truly heartbreaking! I’ve been there. Thank you for sharing your story, and continue to do the video. Hard times makes great men. You Eric , are exactly that. Think about the great times, he gave you guys. And that he is at peace now.
Sorry about the pup. Btw, Evaporust won’t do much if contaminated with certain substances, such as the slime you left in the middle cylinders. If you wiped everything out, you would have had great results from all bores. Otherwise, keep up the great work and videos. I’ve seen most and look forward to more. I especially liked the Chrysler 3.6L overhaul for a family in need. Proves where your heart is! And a little collab with the rainman was cool. More, more!
One of my best friends has a 240SX that is still KA24DE, but it is decently built and turbo'd. It did a hair over 400hp at the wheels. It is very... not slow. My condolences for the loss of your goodest pup.
Dude...this is one of the few YT channels where being a huge waste of time is one of the most endearing qualities, along with being highly entertaining in spite of that. May I add that you are a true Artiste with a vise-grips! Also, what weight of engine sledge hammer would be appropriate for my home shop?
I started with an 6 Lb hammer with a 20 inch handle and a cheap 16 Oz. ball peen hammer, they served me well for decades. I got a 2 1/2 or 3 Lb hammer a few years ago that has been helpful. I do have some bigger hammers but the handles are too long for shop use.
My whole little families condolences go to y’all and your loss of a best friend, someone no matter the topic, right or wrong, was happy to listen, always happy to see you no matter how bad the day, with a familiar happy dance. And tail wag to help you with all your problems
Eric bud before I go any further, sorry to hear about your loss during the week and the loss of your dog. If it passed away having had lots of love and happiness from you and your family there's no more you have done. But despite the loss you still have ability to make us all laugh. Thanks Eric 🙏😁
Not gonna lie about this one, I'm very disappointed you didn't fully disassemble the short block (that's what I tuned in for). At 47:37 you knock out the last Piston, and then you immediately cut away to the inspection table to piece together what happened, yet, the dip-stick tube was still installed on the block! Oh well, maybe next time. 😆 😉 Prayers going out to You and the family for your loss, K9s are a very big part of my family, our condolences. Never mind about the dip-stick, I'm over it.
I bought a 90 240sx about 20 years ago, I had read everywhere what a dog the KA24E was, underpowered, I found it pretty decent for such a light car. Reminded me of my old Mk2 Supras, good midrange. I know insurance premiums etc at the time and why Nissan did this, but I think Nissan still made a decent choice with that motor as an alternative to the Japanese motors that they couldn't put in for so many reasons. I think the DE made pretty decent power with a few bolt ons, but it was SR swap mania at the time.
Man, that was some commitment to get this one apart. Condolences. You’re my parts connection, and I’m your dog connection. I foster and am happy to help if and when you would like another fur buddy.
Thanks for my Sunday night entertainment Eric. I think you got your workout in this week. Need to keep the stand from rolling when your whacking the pistons with a hammer and 2x4...half the energy is being lost because the stand is rolling on you. Sorry about the dog Eric. Enjoyed the video. Keep the great content coming!
If you wrap some black electrical tape around those swivel socket joint thingies they'll still work pretty much the same way but it makes em so much easier to get the socket on the bolt or nut and doesn't weeble wobble around as much. Once you go black, you'll never go back lol.
Eric, my condolences on your loss! We tend to take for granted our pets will be with us forever. I lost a boxer pup at 10 months old, my second boxer lived until he was 14 and had a massive brain haemorage, and to top that my 53 y/o wife passed unexpectedly with no apparent cause of death, and then finally someone smashed into my truck at high speed and destroyed the bed and bent the frame enough to write it off
My first car, at age 16 & 8 days, was an 89 240sx from my dad's mechanic... It had been rear-ended and he rebuilt it by using the whole drive train from an 86 300zx(NA 3.0L) and it's suspension and 4-wheel disc brakes...!!! That little thing was a true rice rocket...!!! And would lock up all four in a heartbeat...!!! It was actually kinda dangerous with those brakes on it...! It was fun, but it got flooded by a hurricane on Siesta Key back around 97 or 98... Thanks for sharing... Keep up your awesomeness...!!!
I had a rusty 89 240sx back in 02. Fun car, it's crazy that they turned into such desirable vehicles. It lost 3rd gear synchro and I sold it for like $500 or less.
Theraputic video I'll bet, Eric. Perhaps a short video of houndog memories to remember all of those joyous moments? I know, the comments, just don't allow comments.😉 I've lost several dogs over the years and understand that blasted ache. You and your family hang in there.🤙
I've had 2 of these engines and they both blew head casket at 150k. The second one I owned from new and babied it and changed coolant every 3 years and it had a external head leak at 150k. I put K-Seal for 3 days, then flushed it out and refilled with Subaru coolant conditioner and antifreeze and it has held for over a year now.
Yeah that evapor Rush is awesome I use it in my Cherokees coolant system and it's never gone back to being muddy coolant again it got rid of all the rust inside the cooling system
That's probably, essentially, what those cooling system cleaner products have in them. While I could see this doing a good number (as will CLR) on the rust and crap, still gotta wonder what it does to gaskets and seals. I guess if you're in that far, you're already going to change all the hoses, the water pump, and the radiator anyway.
I just bought a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited, and have watched nearly all of your tear down videos, but noticed you have not torn down a 5.2/5.9 magnum yet. I would love to see either of those soon.
Take all the time you need to heal over the loss of your wonderful pet. Sorry about that. I grew up with a dog. Had him for 13 years....my condolences.
I remember back in 03 - i literally couldn't give my KA away after swapping in my redtop SR (S13). It's crazy to see how things have shifted and how CRAZY expensive SR's have become (as well as KA's - we considered them throw aways for the most part and lazy truck engines).
Truly , have 20 ka24de engines and trans stockpiled got em for free swapping the engine for them or a few bucks. Run a boosted ka in my weekend drifter making about 350hp .
I can tell the valve cover has been off before. There is an upper timing chain guide that Nissan installed from the factory. The chain will rub against the upper guide and cause noise after the chain has worn or when the tensioner is not applying enough pressure. Nissan learned this, and they say not to use that upper guide, and so many people take them out. I had a Nissan ultima for a while and it had original valve cover gasket and chains were very noisy.
yup, i saw that too. I had one of these cars years ago and had replaced the upper timing chain. I left the top guide off as instructed by the service bulletin. 250,000mi and still running strong when i sold it about 20 years ago.
I can't help but laugh at the fact that I got two Nissan commercials during the video, the second one being immediately after Eric got the last piston out LMAO
A good friend of mine did, in fact, own a completely stock 240SX with its stock, still running KA24 single jingle. It was a clapped out car, but the engine ran great! Yeah, it does not make a lot of power, but these engines were insanely tough and reliable, unlike most of the garbage Nissan makes now. And my friend's S13 he had for a bit would drift just fine with its under powered 2.4 liter. That all said, the car's new owner did yank the 2.4 and swapped in a 6 liter truck engine, 6 speed manual along with some suspension mods as well. So while yes, these engines were "under powered" in the 240SX, they did their job reliably and could take a decent amount of abuse in the process. Nissan in this era didn't always have the most powerful N/A engines, but they were good engines.
I'm going to come out as the contrarian on your teardown; I would bet there's more than a few people out there that would not consider that motor a total loss. For lack of access to better parts (100kms one way), cheapness, or laziness I'm sure I would have overlooked some of the deficiencies and honed, filed and buffed some of those parts back into reasonable shape to make a runner. Ya, it needed a head gasket, wire-wheeling the valve train, some rings and a bit more than a dingleberry hone but it's a well engineered design - it would go another 25k for a minimal input! Not bustin' your chops Eric, I wish I had your inventory! Getting parts is such a drag.
So sorry, Eric. But thanx for a fun video. The hammer/2x4 got you there, but after a minute or two I would have broken out the impact hammer to drive the pistons out.
I’m sorry about your dog. We love your videos, but family is always more important. May God bless you and your family Eric.
Maybe is a stupid question, but I didn't see anything about Eric's dog... where do you read something about...?
Please, tell me about, Thanks.
@@TheMissing62 he put up a post on the community board for his channel.
@@91CavGT5 OK thanks 💔
I’m so sorry to hear about your dog Eric. Family first! Always!!
Amen
Thank you for still releasing a video for us this week even after losing Lucky, Eric. I don't know about others but the teardowns are a highlight of my week.
I just bought an EV last year and watching all the things I no longer have to worry about is fun
I think this video set a record for the number of different hammers used in a single teardown…
Worth the wait!
Condolences on the loss of your furball. It's never easy ... :-(
True. After a lifetime of furry companions, it never gets easier when they pass.

So sorry for your loss. It's never easy.
Thank you for the laughs… still recovering from hurricane Milton. Really needed this.
We appreciate your efforts Eric! You spoil us with videos even when going through hard times. Wish you the best and take some time for yourself :) we will all wait patiently each week!
Eric finding out just how good evaporated is great.
Condolences on the loss of your pup.
I’m very sorry for your loss. I am truly appreciative of you doing a Nissan engine. I’m a big Nissan fan all the way back to the Datsun 510 from 68-73
I enjoyed this one too as a fellow Nissan tragic.

This is probably one of my favs.... Your determination and humor made this so fun
Thank you for releasing a new video. You guys are in my prayers. It’s never easy to let them cross the rainbow.
This one with the unorthodox disassembly practices had me rolling. Good stuff as always.

Not many 240 SX is left. They all got drifted to death.
Can occasionally see a unicorn being driven by an old guy
I still have mine. and ill be damned if i sell it to some hooligan to drift it into a wall
I saw a few at a Drifting event a few years ago. Every 240 there was hacked up and butchered beyond belief.
All been violated, or as I like to say..molested
I have an old guy tip on using the wiggly in tight places: slide a short section of heater hose on the wiggly. It lets you get into places where you can't reach to get the socket on the nut. Also works for yard long extensions for flange nuts on exhaust manifolds. Us old guys are lazy.

Thanks for a really fun and funny video! You made my weekend improve considerably! You also invented a new way to split wood! 😂
I laughed at way too many points in this video. Thanks for the fun Eric! I’m also very sorry to hear about your pooch.
These are probably your best videos. The ones where you have to fight or invent new ways to get an engine apart.
Good teardown, thanks for sharing the video with us.
Again, I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your loyal, loving puppy. May he rest in peace. 👍
Very impressed by the amount of wood debris you added to the engine. Nothing will defeat Eric!
Thank you. This has been one of the more entertaining dissembles that I have seen.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I LOVED seeing the pistons shooting out of the bores. Can't explain why, just had a wide grin that happened.
As a S13 owner, the sr20 video is what got me into your channel, now you did a ka24,that means.
Now you have to get a ca18 to complete the trifecta
That’ll be tough to find, I bet I wrangle an rb before that happens.
Completely hilarious!!!! Thanks for sticking to it!!!!
Penetrater!!!X2
To finish the tear down!!!
That is a rare gem. A 240SX with the KA still in it. I figured they were all the ones still around were SR swapped.
A master class in the effective use of BFHs.
I used to work with a Magistrate Hammers. Yes, it was Hammer time when you were in his court.

Thank you for going the distance on this one.
Eric's dragon breath comes through again. I wish I had that superpower.
Condolences to you and your family. Take whatever time you all need to recover.
I totally understand your loss of your pup. I know our two are like family to us
Great tear down! Love the effort!!😂
Theraputic video I'll bet, Eric.
Perhaps a short video of houndog memories to remember all of those joyous moments?
I know, the comments, just don't allow comments.😉
I've lost several dogs over the years and understand that blasted ache.
You and your family hang in there.🤙
That 240 is totally rebuildable with a tube rear and widebody overs!!!! Perfect drift car.
This is a great idea. How did I not consider this?
That's probably, essentially, what those cooling system cleaner products have in them.
While I could see this doing a good number (as will CLR) on the rust and crap, still gotta wonder what it does to gaskets and seals. I guess if you're in that far, you're already going to change all the hoses, the water pump, and the radiator anyway.
Thank you for an excellent vid after your loss.
I just bought a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited, and have watched nearly all of your tear down videos, but noticed you have not torn down a 5.2/5.9 magnum yet. I would love to see either of those soon.
Magnum brothers!
3.9 would be nice also same as the 5.2 but 2 less cylinders
Have not seen breathing heat in a while. Amazing trick.
Take all the time you need to heal over the loss of your wonderful pet. Sorry about that. I grew up with a dog. Had him for 13 years....my condolences.
Vice Grips for the WIN!
Eric, you crack me up. Enjoyed your comments. Have a great day.
Sorry for your loss brother keep your head up I know sucks
Evapo rust is very good for many jobs, however I have great succes with auto trans fluid the most detergent type. I realy enjoy your work.
Wow what a video thank for sharing...sorry to here about your dog. Bless you and your family.
KA24DE ... now that's a name I've not heard in a long time. Long time. Feeling nostalgic for my long-departed S13 right about now 😭
Favourite episode so far, liked the hammer action
Eric its so nice to see you tear down that engine
Can you find a skyactive X Mazda engine to tear down
Best regards from Morten in Denmark
That engine stand must be made by Timex. 😂😂
So sorry for you and your family. 🐕 are just part of us. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I can't help but laugh at the fact that I got two Nissan commercials during the video, the second one being immediately after Eric got the last piston out LMAO
Condolences, Eric.😢
Sorry too here about your dog sir. Thank you for the video, it was fun to watch.
Very sorry to hear about your doggy....
My deepest condolences to your entire family....
Im so sorry about your loss! I had to put mine go sleep a month ago :( Awesome video however!
