Perhaps the best Pete Gruber interview I’ve ever heard.

Very good interview. Mr Gruber seems like a really cool guy and someone I'd want supervising work or working on my car. He nailed why I got a Model Y after a 2015 Mustang and a 2009 Tiburon before that -- I was tired of having to yoga myself into and out of my car. I think a Model 3 might have been OK, but I was ready for something easier on the knees and back, etc. Plus, I really like being up higher off the ground on trips, especially in the rain.

He was the coolest. Might try to get down to his shop on my upcoming road trip.

It's pretty cool watching the development of your channel. You've gone from mapping out the construction of the Tesla factory in Texas to being an all-around EV guy. That's pretty cool.

I found it interesting the way he didn't join in to second you statements about EV fire rarity, instead discussing some of the safeguards Tesla had on its early HV batteries that other manufacturers failed to put onto their first efforts. I wonder if he has a different opinion about BEV fire risk and whether it may be informed by his work with the older technology. Or maybe I read the conversation wrongly... anyway. It was a good interview.

He has his own videos out on ev fire risks&teslas. The numbers don't lie, in 2023 total us ev fires 25.
Vs total ice&hybrid fires over 217,000. And so far pouch cells are over 90% of ALL ev fires.

@@4literv6 I have seen many lying numbers, though sometimes it's not the numbers lying, but the labels that were put on them. Regardless I have a feeling that these are among the truthful numbers. My wife's old Impala once caught fire (before we were married). It was due to an old crack in the fuel line that went to the carburetor -- a previous owner had souldered it and the souldered had melted while she was driving through a parking lot. A bystander put out the fire with an extinguisher and she had the line replaced and compensated the nice volunteer fireman with some cash to recharge his extinguisher. A few years later she brought the car into our marriage and we drove it for a few more years until we found a better home for it.
The moral of the story is that I believe ICE cars catch on fire more often than EVs, and it makes sense due the use of inflammable fluid and the presence of great heat and even sparks.
Of course the other side of the lesson is that if you are prepared, there is a chance you can control a gasoline fire and not lose the car.
Nothing like an anecdote to muddy the water! :)
