  • Who would you think of as the first published female writer? The answer is Christine de Pizan, a French woman who lived in the medieval period, and stood up for women by arguing against misogyny. In this documentary I cover her life, her writing, and why it was so important.

Read some of her work in my upper level French classes in university. Glad to see more content acknowledging this revolutionary woman.

It's so surprising how little she is known about. Hopefully that will change over time!

She's my idea of a feminist.

She's a really underrated woman in history! That's fantastic your child is learning about her in school, though, I hope the video was useful. ☺

She was the first copywriter. Writing profoundly about the influences of women and the affects of war on all people.

She certainly provided a deeply intelligent debate from the side of women that wasn't being told at the time, not bad for someone who started out writing love poetry!

I've heard of women writers as far back as in the roman empire.

There certainly were, but sadly they usually didn't make a living from it, or were officially published in their own right.

Gertrude Stein. Or the Bronte sisters.

Oh, good choices! I'd definitely love to spend a week shadowing Charlotte Bronte.
