My favorite boss, though not in this countdown, still has to be Baldur, the first fight. Before it was Hercules, because his boss fight felt like a messy boxing match, but there were two things missing that the Baldur fight made me realize. You have no emotional reason to get into the fight, and despite the fact that the combat was great, it lacked in "weight" for me. Baldur made me invested in the fight by physically assaulting Kratos unlike Hercules who was just taunting him and sent minions after him. Every blow you guys shared, changed the environment, something which didn't happen much in Hercules unless it was a scripted event, but even then it wasn't much. Here, every attack you guys do blows the snow off of the ground and wrecks the trees around you. I said the Hercules fight was a messy boxing match, yeah? The Baldur fight is a messy boxing match, where every punch is an Artillery Shell, and every "round" makes you feel adrenalized with the ever-increasing rage you feel for the puny god, fueling you to beat the ever living shit out of him, Seriously, I was so hyped that I told myself: "You know what? No axe this time, just fists, LET'S FIGHT LIKE MEN!"
Well thought out comment and I agree with a lot of what you have to say. It was very difficult for me to choose between the first and last fight with Baldur, but the story significance of the ending fight pushes it over the edge for me. The first fight is incredible though and it's one of the best early game boss fights in recent memory.
What I loved about that first fight was that it was sort of a middle finger by the devs. I mean, the game starts of somber, quiet, and slow and the first conversation between Atreus and Kratos in the boat is literally the developers telling you that this isn't the same GoW you grew up with. And then BAM, that incredible first fight shifts things into high gear and the player feels immense relief afterwards that yes, the game has changed, but its still very much GoW.

Appreciate the civil disagreement and I'm happy you enjoy the content. Thanks for the love, and I can totally understand why you love the Hades fight, it's excellent!
Sigrun and Baldur are my two favorite. Sigrun reminds me most of dark souls style bosses, she is very challenging but has tells for each move so once you learn them it becomes an endurance fight. Baldur on the other hand is more like the best God of War style boss ever. Not overly challenging but has some puzzle aspects, godly ramifications, and is remarkably cinematic. Both are awesome. On another note Euryale should've been on this list, and the colossus of Rhodes as well. I personally think Colossus is the best opener of the series as it has you fighting the colossus in stages while moving all over the city in between. It has an epic feel and properly introduces you to the new strength Kratos has found after becoming the god of war. Euryale is a perfect example of how to use the freezing mechanic in those games. Instead of overwhelming you like some gorgon fights do it's just the two of you and she has multiple moves that require different ways to avoid/block them. She can get up in your face and destroy you from afar.
You did great on the boss picks. I thought your commentary was great as well. I just wanted to say, you really had some great pointers. Some of the great bosses were snuffers but the Minotaur was by far the best one I take that you brought up. Kudos on all choices.

Thanks for the love. The transition criticism is one I've heard before and have tried to adjust to, but I'll see if I can't slow the pace in the transitions a bit more. Appreciate the honest feedback Charlie!
I’d give an honourable mention to the cronos fight in god of war 3, it was a scale that was pretty unprecedented in games and it used a creative way to bring down the Titan.
All I know is that after 20 minutes of combat, when I saw that circle appear above Zeus in GOW 3, I screamed in excitement. And with the Queen Valkyrie, after an hour of fighting and dying, when I saw R3 appear above her, I screamed even louder.
Yeah man, glad to see some love and appreciation for the Sisters of Fate, that was the first multi-boss experience in the series and man was it amazing, and the killing blow(s) had to be one of the best finishers in the series.
I watched all of your GoW ranking videos and I enjoyed them a lot. I even compiled a list of my own: 12) Sisters of Faith (GoW 2) 11) Zeus (GoW 2) 10) Ares (GoW 1) 9) Hercules (GoW 3) 8) Chronos (GoW 3) 7) Queen of the Valkyries (GoW) 6) Hades (GoW 3) 5) Magni & Modi (GoW) 4) Poseidon (GoW 3) 3) The Stranger (GoW) 2) Zeus (GoW 3) 1) Baldur & Freya (GoW) It's surprising that the latest GoW has a ridiculous amount of reskins and disappointing bosses, yet manages to have the best ones in the franchise. Atleast it broke so mamy records that the sequel will have a massive budget and therefore, they will have more money and time to invest in more bosses (the cinematic ones, not the RPG-esque arena fights).
as much as i think Baulder was much more cinematic and awe inspiring, in terms of hours of actual fun I got, Sigrun is easily my favorite boss in the series, the game taught you perfectly how to fight her and the entire boss fight is so incredibly varied and came down almost entirely to player execution after you received the knowledge...i wish more bossfights were like it, utalising almost every combat mechanic in the game to beat her.
Hades was always my favorite. Such an amazing theme for the boss and the ending. You fucking ripped his soul out with his own weapon. Also honest question. Am I the only one who found sigrun easy? I mean I’m talking not give me god of war difficulty, but even hard I found it easy. I mean it helped I’m very good with remembering attacks, but I mean it took me four tries.
Did you played it on Give me a Challenge or Give me God of War. A bigger health bar and harder attacks make it so any mistake you make may cost you a try. It took me a couple of hours on Give me a Challenge. It is definitely hard, but it is also one of the fairest bosses I have ever fought.
My favorite bosses in almost every god of war game: God of war (the first one): pandoras guardian God of war 2: Zeus God of war 3: Hades God of war 4: Baldur That's all I have played I already am playing god of war ascension still close to passing it.
Cronos may not offer much in terms of a proper boss fight. But the atmosphere set by him was incredible. One of my favourite, but also most painful parts in the series.
Dude, I completely agree. The Baldur fight was the best in the whole fucking series. The music, Freya desperately trying to save her son, Atreus summoning Jörmungander, and the cooperation between father and son, it all adds up to an amazing ass boss fight.
Everything about Balder was perfect, his character design, his powers, his backstory, and his dialogue. Every fight you had with him felt like a fight with an actual God rather than someone you were told was God. And hearing him crazily rant during his fights was great and fun.
I mean gameplay wise, sure the last fight is a huge spectacle, it looks amazing... But it was the same as the first one except it was 10 times easier because by that time you have been playing the game for hours and you are definitely gonna be better at parrying, blocking, or dodging every single one of his attacks. It was a fucking reskin
Please Stand By It was NOT a reskin. Baldur had a bunch of different attacks, like shooting fireballs, exploding into a different Elemental form, causing ice spikes to burst out towards you, and Freya's interventions that continued to change really made it feel like a different experience.
I wish i could give it to someone else, but the final fight with Baldur is more than a boss fight like you said; its a true testament to the bonding kratos and atreus have done over the course of god of war 4. And when Baldur punched atreus, as a parent, i felt personally attacked. Both my wife and i went "HOW DARE HE!?" There was no better satisfaction than pummeling his face for hurting my boi.
My favourite boss fight has to be the colossus of Rhodes because it's just phenomenal mate...I fell in love with it the first time I played GoW 2 and I beat the game 5 times
Probably Sigrun, if only for the fact that one battle might favor chance and you only get largely easily countered attacks (like the Ice Storm) instead of the rather precise AOE after she takes to the air or the repeated Valhalla stomps. Orphan doesn’t tends to mix things up, and also has much less life, so it’s not as much as an endurance battle as Sigrun is on GMGOW.
On the whole, I think Souls bosses tend to have more depth to them. But I think the worst of Souls is a lot worse than God of Wars weak bosses and the best of both are on the same playing field.
@@tylerolish9301 have you tried Ludwig and orphan of Kos on Ng+ your opinion will probably change Edit: the thing with sigrun is that she has a very specific rythm to her she has all attacks off all 8 valks but once you get on how to deal with each attack the fight isn't that hard it's just that you can't mess up and you do have 1 ressurect stone
Random Name yeah I understand ng+ changes the playing field but god of war didn’t have a ng+ option (at the time I posted that comment) so I was comparing a standard play-through of each game Edit: now that GoW has a ng+ option I’d still give the edge to Sigrun only reason behind that is, I can’t even make to her. Yes the resurrection stone is a huge benefit. You can’t freely heal in GoW and a few of her power moves will finish you even with 300+ defense.
Baldurs intro was pretty baddas at his first fight when he was called a stranger, but his last fight was pretty cool 2 :). Anyway great job on the video u got my subscribe
The first fight with Baldur was the best. Not only was it the first real boss fight of a great game, it had weight. The punch that sent Kratos flying made Baldur’s strength known. Its also the only fight in the game that made the power of the two gods known. They were breaking through trees during their fight, and destroying the land during cut scenes. It was an excellent first introduction to kratos’ potential.
Perhaps in the future. I had planned to rank the God of War games and give brief love/hate reviews of each, but unfortunately I've run of time within my current plans for the channel (to which I'll have a video tomorrow detailing these plans). I can say at the very least that the new God of War is one of the best games I've played in years and there are very few flaws I can point to. Even those are easy to overlook because the overall quality of the combat, narrative, character development, bosses, world design, graphics, sound design, etc. is up there with some of the best.
theDeModcracy It's so cool that you noticed I was a repeat commenter. I love your content from the scripts you write to the humor and the quality games you play. I commented on a lot of your souls series boss videos but was lost in the thousands of comments. I'm glad I've gotten this chance to become more active in the community.
Both Baldur fights were great but the first one, considering you had no idea who he was, was just way more thrilling. That was one of the best ways to introduce a character
Best & Hardest Battles of the Series (I’ve only played gow 3 & 4) according to me: 10. Hell Cerberus (GoW 3 before Zeus) 9. Cronos (GoW 3) 8. Baldur (GoW 4 first fight) 7. Poseidon (GoW 3) 6. Magni & Modi (GoW 4) 5. Hercules (GoW 3) 4. Baldur (GoW 4 last fight) 3. Hades (GoW 3) 2. Sigrun (GoW 4) 1. Zeus (GoW 3) Actually I love all of these amazing fights and it was hard to rank them. They’re all no. 1 IMO.
hraezlyr actually got like tiny introduction where kratos and atreus climbing some rocks and find a rune that needs to be read by atreus. and the rune was hraezlyr (sorry for bad english)
Good video, personally I put the sisters number 1. Balder is solid but all 3 phases are almost the same beat him down, them beat him down switching weapons, them just adding dodge the plants for the last. If also would've put queen near bottom if all on my personal list she seems unfair. The way you could be stuck in an attack and hitting her. but unless you hit her dead on with a rune attack she can go right through and attack you which you will lose a good peice of your health. Last side note I didn't really feel like a god (even though he should still be only a demi god after losing the godly powers he gained) the stranger fight and dragon are the only times I actually felt powerful. For me at least
When the first god of war came out I was still young so when I fought the mother hydra is scared the crap out of me and taking her down was tough, she got my vote to b on the list.
Im just gonna say it. God of war 4 is the best game of all time. Everything about it, the visuals, combat, rpg elements, the story, the relationship and development of Kratos and Atreus, the boss fights (although few unique) were stunning and challenging. It was the second game I ever platinumed and even though it took over 80 hours it never felt grindy and it was just so much fun. It made me cry when I finished it and the secret ending makes me so excited for the next game which is pretty much inevitable at this point. Even the fact that the entire game is continuous and there are no fade aways is brilliant. It is a masterpiece
Demod! you have my everlasting respect as you're the guy who made me try Bloodborne, which eventually became one of the best games I've ever played. however... under any circumstances new God of War bosses can't compare to those from "3". I say 3 because it was a true dream team of bosses but I rather mean whole saga. great mechanics, great music (which last game completely lacks) and actual reason to beat the living shit out of them gives me chills everytime I go back to old games. it's the only reason I still keep my PS3 around. one I had most fun with in 2018 GoW was dragon, other than that half of all bosses were troll reskins, three Baldur encounters were pretty much all the same, valkyries didn't feel much different except maybe three of them. Magni and Modi fight was fine but I didn't have impression I'm battling two guys cause one of them preffered to abuse BOY rather than focus on me. all in all I feel a little bit disappointed by the game as whole. I knew it's gonna be different and I pretty much got what I expected. however what I really wished for was new-old God of War, like another GoW 3, but one I haven't played yet. GoW was the first and last king of 3rd person hack&slash and it died too soon. now every game must be open world...
The music from God of War 4 made the Bosses sooooo much more memorable
The music when baldur dies made me a little bit sad for baldur. The music in this game made it so much more emotional

I even compiled a list of my own:
12) Sisters of Faith (GoW 2)
11) Zeus (GoW 2)
10) Ares (GoW 1)
9) Hercules (GoW 3)
8) Chronos (GoW 3)
7) Queen of the Valkyries (GoW)
6) Hades (GoW 3)
5) Magni & Modi (GoW)
4) Poseidon (GoW 3)
3) The Stranger (GoW)
2) Zeus (GoW 3)
1) Baldur & Freya (GoW)
It's surprising that the latest GoW has a ridiculous amount of reskins and disappointing bosses, yet manages to have the best ones in the franchise. Atleast it broke so mamy records that the sequel will have a massive budget and therefore, they will have more money and time to invest in more bosses (the cinematic ones, not the RPG-esque arena fights).
"a fight where you are most likely to turn into stone out of boredom"... God I died 😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂
Thor's sons were my favorite boss fight
bigern76 they were my fav in the new gow too
Magni and Modi
@Kier Dumayas i dont think it was boring at all. the trolls on the other hand....
Yeah that fight was great. Sadly most other bosses in god of war4 aren’t that great (like the trolls)
Demod content is best content! Have been enjoying your streams and videos for a long time, keep them up!
A fight with Aphrodite in gow3 thats my number 1, so intense , to complicated..
Gian ML you couldn’t handle her easily
He did not even put Thanatos on the list. GOD OF DEATH
Great list, but no Cronos?
it ain’t that intense but it is good
as much as i think Baulder was much more cinematic and awe inspiring, in terms of hours of actual fun I got, Sigrun is easily my favorite boss in the series, the game taught you perfectly how to fight her and the entire boss fight is so incredibly varied and came down almost entirely to player execution after you received the knowledge...i wish more bossfights were like it, utalising almost every combat mechanic in the game to beat her.
I am so glad you made this, THANKS DEMOD
My favorite bosses in almost every god of war game:
God of war (the first one): pandoras guardian
God of war 2: Zeus
God of war 3: Hades
God of war 4: Baldur
That's all I have played I already am playing god of war ascension still close to passing it.
Cronos may not offer much in terms of a proper boss fight. But the atmosphere set by him was incredible. One of my favourite, but also most painful parts in the series.
>no Colossus
Rip best boss :(
Dude, I completely agree. The Baldur fight was the best in the whole fucking series. The music, Freya desperately trying to save her son, Atreus summoning Jörmungander, and the cooperation between father and son, it all adds up to an amazing ass boss fight.
When atreus and Kratos have that double team qte... Shit is unreal.
Everything about Balder was perfect, his character design, his powers, his backstory, and his dialogue. Every fight you had with him felt like a fight with an actual God rather than someone you were told was God. And hearing him crazily rant during his fights was great and fun.
“Boulder” 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
nolanc94 oops my bad
The first Baldur fight is ten times better than the last one
Please Stand By i Think the last Baldur fight is better but i live first fight too
I mean gameplay wise, sure the last fight is a huge spectacle, it looks amazing... But it was the same as the first one except it was 10 times easier because by that time you have been playing the game for hours and you are definitely gonna be better at parrying, blocking, or dodging every single one of his attacks.
It was a fucking reskin
Definitely. The first fight was so fucking epic that it left every other fights in GOW 4 kinda disappointing other than the dragon and Valkyries.
dude atreus fought like a martial artist in the last fight
#TeamClotho. Who’s with me?
I am new to the channel but I am very happy that you made this list thank you
i prefer the first encounter with baldur
My favourite boss fight has to be the colossus of Rhodes because it's just phenomenal mate...I fell in love with it the first time I played GoW 2 and I beat the game 5 times
Which is harder: Sigrun or Orphan of Kos?
Good question. Maybe after enough time I'll do a ranking across series we've covered.
Sigrun on give me god of war is 5 times harder.
Sabotower Gaming Orphan Phase 1 < Sigrun < Orphan Phase 2
Sigrun on give me God of War difficulty
Probably Sigrun, if only for the fact that one battle might favor chance and you only get largely easily countered attacks (like the Ice Storm) instead of the rather precise AOE after she takes to the air or the repeated Valhalla stomps.
Orphan doesn’t tends to mix things up, and also has much less life, so it’s not as much as an endurance battle as Sigrun is on GMGOW.
Also props to your gow4 stream, I loved it.
Lahksis & Atropos top 2? That's good 🙄
Great video! I couldn’t agree more with this list!!
If you don't mind my asking, how do the bosses in god of war measure up against the bosses in dark souls?
On the whole, I think Souls bosses tend to have more depth to them. But I think the worst of Souls is a lot worse than God of Wars weak bosses and the best of both are on the same playing field.
I’d say souls has a more difficult average boss than god of wars but I don’t think anything is as difficult as Sigrun on the hardest mode.
@@tylerolish9301 have you tried Ludwig and orphan of Kos on Ng+ your opinion will probably change
Edit: the thing with sigrun is that she has a very specific rythm to her she has all attacks off all 8 valks but once you get on how to deal with each attack the fight isn't that hard it's just that you can't mess up and you do have 1 ressurect stone
Random Name yeah I understand ng+ changes the playing field but god of war didn’t have a ng+ option (at the time I posted that comment) so I was comparing a standard play-through of each game
Edit: now that GoW has a ng+ option I’d still give the edge to Sigrun only reason behind that is, I can’t even make to her. Yes the resurrection stone is a huge benefit. You can’t freely heal in GoW and a few of her power moves will finish you even with 300+ defense.
@@tylerolish9301 Sigrun killed me more than ludwig,And I was on easy.Maybe im just trash
Great video as always
My favourite boss is Callisto.
I really liked the Cronos fight, the finish was brutal - and it was a great showdown with a titan.
yeah, the fight with Cronos was awesome
Baldurs intro was pretty baddas at his first fight when he was called a stranger, but his last fight was pretty cool 2 :). Anyway great job on the video u got my subscribe
The first fight with Baldur was the best.
Not only was it the first real boss fight of a great game, it had weight.
The punch that sent Kratos flying made Baldur’s strength known. Its also the only fight in the game that made the power of the two gods known. They were breaking through trees during their fight, and destroying the land during cut scenes.
It was an excellent first introduction to kratos’ potential.
Bone me like you did that dragon Daddy.
Dillan Smith bro??
Colossus of Rhodes was a personal favorite for me. Practically a whole level as a boss fight.
Bro your list is to wrong
1. Zeus in GOW3
2. Baldur
3. Hades
@0:43 - That's some funny shit right there. I couldn't stop laughing the first time I heard that.
Will we be getting a 10 Things you love or hate video for God of War?
Perhaps in the future. I had planned to rank the God of War games and give brief love/hate reviews of each, but unfortunately I've run of time within my current plans for the channel (to which I'll have a video tomorrow detailing these plans).
I can say at the very least that the new God of War is one of the best games I've played in years and there are very few flaws I can point to. Even those are easy to overlook because the overall quality of the combat, narrative, character development, bosses, world design, graphics, sound design, etc. is up there with some of the best.
I should also thank you for your support Jon. I've noticed you commenting throughout the entire series and your dedication is very much appreciated!
theDeModcracy It's so cool that you noticed I was a repeat commenter. I love your content from the scripts you write to the humor and the quality games you play. I commented on a lot of your souls series boss videos but was lost in the thousands of comments. I'm glad I've gotten this chance to become more active in the community.
The first fight against baldur is the most beautiful fight in gaming history as far as I'm concerned and it's number 1 for me with ease
YYYYEEEEEEEEEEE BBBBBBBBOOOOOOOIIIIIII
Both Baldur fights were great but the first one, considering you had no idea who he was, was just way more thrilling. That was one of the best ways to introduce a character
I'm saddened by Baldur and freya taking number 1
This list sucks.
diggydugg any list with any of the new GoW “bosses” is collusion :(
You sound like a child, i dont agree with the list entirely but i dont just say this list sucks, try to respect his view on the bosses.
lo mejor de todo es que no se hablar muy bien el ingles y aun asi me entendiste. LMAO
L e n n i N how do I not speak English very well nino jajajaja
The Baldur and Freya boss fight is awesome though. Not the best, but still great.
Best & Hardest Battles of the Series (I’ve only played gow 3 & 4) according to me:
10. Hell Cerberus (GoW 3 before Zeus)
9. Cronos (GoW 3)
8. Baldur (GoW 4 first fight)
7. Poseidon (GoW 3)
6. Magni & Modi (GoW 4)
5. Hercules (GoW 3)
4. Baldur (GoW 4 last fight)
3. Hades (GoW 3)
2. Sigrun (GoW 4)
1. Zeus (GoW 3)
Actually I love all of these amazing fights and it was hard to rank them. They’re all no. 1 IMO.
Honestly Hraezryl's introduction alone is enough to land him here. He just comes out of no where and bam you're fighting a dragon.
hraezlyr actually got like tiny introduction where kratos and atreus climbing some rocks and find a rune that needs to be read by atreus. and the rune was hraezlyr (sorry for bad english)
SIGRUN : Laughs in Valhalla
Yes, epic fights with Baldur and the Dragon is the true GOW experience
Your new microphone is so much better than the one in this video.
G Man212 I have no idea what you're talking about with the Sigrun fight, she felt very fair and never got you locked in repeated attacks.
The first encounter with Baldur/Stranger is imo the best boss in the series. My jaw was on the floor the whole fight.
Hades coming out of the floor outta nowhere nearly gave me s stroke
The two Baldur fights are awesome.
When the first god of war came out I was still young so when I fought the mother hydra is scared the crap out of me and taking her down was tough, she got my vote to b on the list.
Great job man.Perhaps you could rank also ranj kratos equipment throughout the games. You know the weapons, magic and items.
GoW was the first and last king of 3rd person hack&slash and it died too soon. now every game must be open world...
msniek nankoski maniek I respect your opinion, but it's wrong. The 3 Baldur fights were objectively completely different.
