I think it would be really good to see an analysis of a current draft based on these points. I see myself more often then not either forcing a colour combination or being unable to decide which colour to go for at all and ending up with not enough playables.
These are definitely lessons you can use in future drafts! They are certainly built into my play style and approach to the game, so even when I don’t say them explicitly they are on my mind (for example, I take multicolored cards with my first pick very infrequently). I’m glad you liked the video!
I really enjoy your analysis of the pieces the experts write. I myself are now finally in Mythic rank, but I keep stumbling upon the same problem. I now often know how to wait what colours are open and I end up in open combinations, However, even though I end up wtith tons of playables and even good cards, the games themselves often end in 1-3 or 2-3. It has most of the time to do with mana. Not colour fixing but, being flooded or not. for example, there's a 2 drop in my hand thats lets me rummage and I have 3 lands total. Odds are that if I choose to rummage a land I won't take one on my next draw step and thus am screwed, however, if I choose not to rummage, I will draw my fourth land which will often en up in me getting flooded. Do you have any advice except for.. put some Scry in, play 17 lands etc to how I can make my deck more reliable? The curve is still a mistary to me.
I’m glad you’ve been enjoying my article analysis videos! The first thing that comes to mind is that it seems unlikely your mana is worse than others, so maybe it is a confirmation bias where you are focusing more on the games where the mana doesn’t come together. With that out of the way, I would generally say that in some situations it is possible to build decks that are happy to have an extra land, but have plenty of ways to spend their mana or plenty of card filtering to discard extra lands for value. I actually have a whole video about building a better mana base where I go over some tips called something like, “MTG Draft Tips for Less Mana Screw,” or something along those lines that you may find helpful. I also think I have an entire video about Lands in Limited that could help as well.
It takes practice. If there are good players who you are friends with at your FNM, I often find showing folks like that your deck and having them offer suggestions is helpful.
@@NicolaiBolas thank you for the reply! Trying my best. I think the pod I was with was the worst combination of tryhard and toxic, because I did ask two people for some pointers and they were very against that. The one who didn't refuse pretty much just told me "yeah there's not much you can do here" and handed me my deck back 😂
