How to install effects into Final Cut Pro X (Titles, generators & transitions)

In this video im sharing how to install effects into final cut pro X, These could be effects you have created yourself or effects you have purchased from asset websites such as Envato, Video Hive, Motion VFX etc.
Adding effects in FCPX can be a bit weird as Apple dont make it super easy but Ive found 3 ways to install effects into FCPX that work for me.
I hope you find this useful and it gets you using your new effects in Final Cut nice and quickly

Do any of these methods work on the Trial version?
what if i dont wanna paste them? all my effects are on my external hard drive and that folder in on the HD on the computer. My effects are way bigger than my main drive. And the new folders i copy are all localized but NOT showing up :(
Ok, here is what I found:
Title - file_name.moti.
Generator-file_name.motn.
Transition-File_Name.motr.
Effects-file_name.moef.
The file Extention is different. That makes life EZ fined which file belongs to where.

Thanks man! Doing the deep diving into the app bundle is the only thing that worked for me. Word to the wise: If you don't have Motion installed, FCP is not going to know to look in the /Movies/Motion Templates folder.

Was able to install Transitions and Generators with ease, however none of the effects I installed are showing up in the Effect Listing. What am I doing wrong?
Check the effects are in there own folder within the effects folder, this has helped me sometimes 👍

very helpful video .. thanks fr the info. I hv a question 🙋♂️, fr template packs, etc we hv in envato, where its written supported software FCPX,Apple Motion. .. in those cases r they saying that u meed apple motion to use the packs ?
Okay, so brand new Mac user here 😭 and new to Final Cut Pro as well. I still haven’t gotten the hang of installing the effects. I tried to do the first option because I do have Motion. But I’m not sure how to use it. Did I miss something in the video? I’m not sure if I’m supposed to drag the file into it or something. I’m sorry if this seems like a slow question but I’m literally new to editing, and all of this, so it’s a little overwhelming lol. Hopefully my question made sense. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hi, yeah you can either drag your effects folder or files into the designated folder or copy and paste them in, either way should work. Hope that helps and good luck with your nee Mac 👍🙏😎

Hey Will, thanks for the video but while following you step by step I notice I don't have the User Folder in finder - even though I have "motion". What must i do since I don't see the User Folder to get into movies folder?
Hi, thanks for watching! You have a couple of options, you can click on macHD in finder sidebar and that should then show you the user folder (in my case it’s called Will) or you can go into finder preferences (top left near Apple logo) and customise finder sidebar so it includes user folder for future. I found to get the folder to show if you put it in the Movies folder structure that all sub-folders 'Titles' 'Adjustment' 'Adjustment Layer' need to be marked as .localized

I have a question when we try to instal and Add effects, Titles and more. It does not work or add Into my final cut pro.
Literally we have done everything from uninstalling , restarting and making sure folders are .localized and More.. when i try to add any of your downloads such as effects, Titles or any other Free templates. It does not work. Can anyone in this community please help.
I figured it out. All I had to do was literally open up the motion app and then open final cut pro. Thank Will

I'm not convinced I downloaded/installed all the effects that come with Final Cut Pro. I feel like I am missing transitions. how do I know if I have all the effects that come with Final Cut and install what might be missing? thank you
In the top menu bar, click “Final Cut Pro” the “download additional content” this will download everything on offer. However, to my knowledge this only includes pro video formats and sound effects, I believe everything else is included in the initial download but it’s worth a try. If you still think something is missing try deleting the whole app and reinstalling from the App Store. Hope that helps 👍🙏😎

this was very well done & helpful however I have the four editors bundle, did everything exactly how its presented and still none of the transitions are showing up in Final Cut. made sure the the folder was .localized restarted final cut and still the new transitions don't pop up in the transitions section

So I imported some titles from Envato into my Motion Titles but they don't appear in FCP titles Any idea what I did wrong?
Hi Vivian, did you get this sorted? In my experience if they are in the right location then a restart of FCPX is needed, otherwise double check the location again to ensure it is correct. Many thanks 👍😎🙏

One question I still have about faking of the "Motion Templates" folder 0n 08:44. I have per default a "Motion Template" folder. And this folder also contains folders "Compositions, Effects, Generators, Titles, Transition". They all already have the extension ".localized". As I tried to add ".localized" to the "Motion Templates" folder, I got the message, that I already have such a folder.
As you see in my case faking of the folder in not possible.
Can I use default folder "Motion Templates" without buying "Motion" software ?

I've recently installed Motion and am pretty confused. In my Movies folder, all the Motion Templates folders are empty. I don't see where to find the Apple Motion templates to place in those folders. Should they be there automatically?
What I was hoping to do with Motion is modify clips in an existing FCPX project.
So I have an existing Final Cut project and want to enhance (scale, movement, color saturation, etc) using key frames on a clip in that project.
I don't see how to apply those effects to the clip using Motion while in Final Cut. Do I have to export the clip to Motion somehow?
If so, it seems I won't be able see how the clip works in the Final Cut project as I go. I'm sure I'm missing something very basic. I'm on OS 12.6, Final Cut 10.6.4, Motion 5.6.2 Thanks in advance!

@@WillChidlow yeah I'm new to all this. Got my 1st MacBook Pro. I got an iPad about a year ago but besides that I haven't had any Apple products since my Apple 2e I had in elementary school. Dating myself but anyway.
I've been trying to figure out best practices with file and data management so I don't have a mess later on that I have to try to clean up and rearrange. Alias have worked perfectly so far with all my footage on an external drive. So I don't have to load that 300 + gigs of footage on my 1 TB internal drive and then have to reclaim that space later. I'm hoping I can do the same with my 3rd party plugins and video assets.
Since I'm so new chances of me doing it wrong are high. That's why asked someone with more experience. I'm thinking it should work if don't correctly. It's just adding more steps to an already tricky process.
Anyway I'd much rather have a growing library of FX and assets (for obvious reasons) on an external drive. Alias files seem like a perfect solution for that... If it works. Lol.

the effects should tell you what sort of effect they are so you can just place them in the most logical folder, titles in the titles folder, transitions in the transitions folder etc. hope that helps

hi, great video! I'm having problems upgrading my FCPX to the latest version as it doesn't seem to work with my latest version of FxFactory plugins, the "Titles" folder would go missing. Hence I'm stuck at 10.4.8 coz it's the only version that works with FxFactory. Any ideas?
That’s really unfortunate, that if FX factory aren’t actively updating their plugins then it might be time look for alternative providers that keep their assets up to date. I’ve had a few plugins like this in the past and I’ve ended up ditching them and dealing with the side effect that certain historic projects will be broken and need major work if I ever need to work on them in future. Fortunately for me I don’t often need to go back to historic work. Sorry I can’t offer a magic wand solution for you here 😬 thanks for watching and good luck! 👍🙏😎
One other thought, when you say the titles go missing, have you tried reading them using the methods in this video? It might just be that the effects are being overwritten during the update and need reading to show again?

Hey, this is so helpful and very clear compared to other videos Ive watched, so when you buy a title package or effects whats the easiest way to add them to motion templates in finder ?

I’ve never actually tried but you could attempt it by putting the assets on a drive and then creating alias files and putting them in the motion templates folder. It might work 🤔🤔
