Highly unlikely as California the State that LA is in prohibit the ownership of 50 cal rifle unless you owned it before 2005, but now it's not possible to posse one in California also I don't think you can buy the Barraett 50 cal outside of the US other then Canada in fact I don't think theirs any export of 50 cal sniper rifle as the manufacturer don't want a power gun like that fall into the wrong hands, plus you can't really get your hands on 50 BMG when your a terrorist and they aren't that easy to salvage.

Both helmets are merely for ricochet bullets, or grazing bullets flying by. They need some better advisers on set. They should also get some better vfx, sound, armorers. The tactics are basic at best. They have them peeking cover on the left while still shouldering the rifle on the right. The VFX looks like it was done by new vfx student as their first assignment. The gunshots sound like it was downloaded from some free website in order to avoid doing any real work themselves. For the amount of money that CBS has given them you would think that they could get some blank firing guns (for some scenes), real combat choreographers, decent VFX teams, and record their own sounds for the guns so they sound at least a bit more believable. If they did that it could be the best cop show out there.

SWAT units can be issued .50 BMG's, but I doubt they're used very often. In this case shown, crippling a car's engine block is a legitimate use for a .50 caliber rifle. I suspect it's used for not much more than that because a .50 BMG can over penetrate a lot of different materials especially in an urban environment and you don't want to risk collateral damage.
The ones with the Bearcat (Armored vehicle) in this clip where fake SWAT the one's in the 3 cars were real SWAT (Well as real as this show makes them, so not very). The Bearcat was stolen from the real SWAT earlier
I understand this is fiction and all that stuff, but given the fact that I basically grew up in the emergency response environment, there are so many aspects of the show that just drive me nuts. For one there aren’t enough actual SWAT personnel on this operation. They should have come from both ends of the alleyway or whatever. Also 99% of police forces even the Los Angeles PD don’t use high-end muscle cars has unmarked cruisers. However, the main issue that I have in my personal opinion is the egregious set up for the weapons. Obviously, they have to do this for the show. After all Hollywood blanks create a much larger muzzle flash than real world ammunition. This is why, in movies with machine guns and stuff you will usually see a muscle flash that extends out like a foot in front of the weapon when it is fired when in reality, you wouldn’t see anything like that. For me, the main issue here is the amount of smoke that you see coming from the gun barrels. They almost look as if they’re firing, old-school black powder in place of modern cordite. And on a random sidenote, I find it very funny that Hondo is giving the usual commands, despite the fact that they’re already getting shot at.
Remember children: when fleeing police in a heavily armored vehicle with a terrorist during a firefight, always buckle your seat belt. Safety first!

These arent just standard police officers, they're SWAT and LAPD SWAT do have Barrett M82s as part of their armory.
