They believed he was the Savior of mankind who is God, which Isaiah 43:10-11 explains, I believe they knew who he was, but thought he would become their king instead of dying on the cross for our sins. I would argue that 1 John 4:1-6 says they would have been antichrists if they did not believe that God came in the flesh, they never refuted he was God anywhere that I am aware of. I don't think they understood how everything was going to happen because the plan of God that he would deliver us through his death on the cross was a mystery hidden in God or the principalities would not have had him crucified. Thomas had a problem with him being risen from the dead, not who he was.

Where in any Evangelistic encounter are His attributes/works He performed (DBR) the Necessary Object and Content whereby one is irreversibly born again ?
      Non existent in Scripture .
Only faith in Him for His doubtless Guarantee of irrevocable Everlasting Life alone is the Object and Content that forever regenerates .

@@soljos1190 Were believers eternally secure before he went on the cross?

The cross is the center of grace.
We absolutely must believe that Jesus died on the cross was buried and rose again for our sins.
Without Jesus being crucified on the cross there is no atonement for sins.
      Mark 16:6
Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.
      John 11:25
I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.”
      1 Corinthians 15:14
And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.
      1Thessalonians 5:10
He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.
      1 Corinthians 1:18-19
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19For it is written:
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,
And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”
Do you believe that Jesus is the Son of God died on the cross was buried and rose again for our sins?
      Acts 2:31-32.
      Acts1:1-8
Says this teaching is for all,you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth.
      Luke 24:44-47
He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”
Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, And REPENTANCE FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS will be preached in His name to ALL NATIONS Starting in Jerusalem.
      Jesus said:
      Matthew 16:18
And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. Jesus again reaffirms Peter to start the church in John 21:17
The third time he said to him,
Simon son of John, do you love me?
Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.”
      Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.
Acts 2 is the day of pentecost which is the start of the church.
This was the first time in church where some asked how to be saved.
37When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles,(Including John)“Brothers, what shall we do?
38Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off. (meaning gentiles) for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
40With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” 41Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were
added to their number that day.
      Peter again includes Gentiles.
      Acts 11:18
When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying,
So then, even to Gentiles, God has granted REPENTANCE THAT LEADS TO LIFE".

Did the criminal on the cross know that Christ was God in the flesh?

Intersting discussion. I actually dont understand why jesus has to be god for his sacrifice to cover our sins. Adam was not god, he was a man and sin came into the world through him. So if a perfect man can lose eternal life for all of mankind, why cant the sacrifice of a 2nd perfect man regain eternal life?

Are you or anybody else running to be the deity? Sorry, Jesus already won that title. If he’s not deity, we’re all going to hell just like we deserve. I believe he said ALL authority has been given to him, in Heaven and Earth. Sounds like deity to me.

Jesus said "all authority has been GIVEN to me." How can god be given something? To me it suggest he might not be god.

Whoever saw me, saw the Father as well. Why do you think Jesus said these words to his followers? He meant it! Why do you think He said that he was the one to be able to forgive sins. So many other other statements in the scripture tells us about the diety of Jesus what is essential to know for all who wants to be saved. Because God wanted us to know that He was the One who sacrificed Himself for us. If Jesus were only the son of God and not God himself than not God sacrificed Himself but He did!!!

When jesus said whoever saw me, saw the father as well, it's possible he wasn't literal. Jesus also called himself a door. Maybe jesus was saying he represented the father, the same way an ambassador represents their country in a foreign nation.

Salvation is about TRUSTING, not adhering to doctrines.

Rom 6:17, believing in Jesus is believing in doctrine- the gospel.

The “I am he” is in reference to the Christ, not Jehovah God.
For example, when you lift up the Son of Man (crucify him), you will know that I am he, the Christ. John 13:19
Technically you don’t have to believe Jesus is God to be saved because it’s already implicit in the fact that he rose again from the dead and died for sins, things only God can do, especially after he claimed to be God, he wouldn’t be raised up by God if he was a lying blasphemer.
Furthermore, the apostles in acts 2,10, and 13 say that God raised Jesus from the dead in their gospel presentations. They don’t mention explicitly that Jesus is God, it’s more so inbuilt into the gospel. Otherwise, the person would have to understand some kindof Trinitarian theology to be saved, which is complex, and drawing the line is quite arbitrary. How can God raise him if he’s God? How is the Father also Jesus in this sense?

Likely not, the disciples didn’t even recognize this fact in John 14
