We really need to appreciate this guy right here. There are very few mixing tutorials for drum and bass on TH-cam, and as a liquid drum and bass producer I can attest to the fact that many producers find mixing more challenging than actual music production. Big ups to everyone and keep producing-you'll get there!
This is the best video for mixing and mastering I've come across in many years of experience. I wish I had something like this a decade ago when I was just getting into producing dnb. Big up!
Oh wow I was literally searching for this kind of video all day. So glad you did this man. Love your content!! Have you ever considered making a full on dnb course?
Haha sick man. And you provided so much value, you can’t even imagine. It’s so nice to be learning from someone who is few steps ahead, not someone who is like thousands. Can’t wait for the vocal video! 😎
Wow! So many tips - I just started with Drum n Bass actually, after Hardstyle and hard dance as my main genres. I am not joking: this is so valuable!!! Can you pleaaaaase tell me, which presets did you use for the basses? They are sick af 🤩 And are they from your website? 🙃
Great video! Only other helpful thing for folks without many effects plugins or knowledge how to use them would be advise which stock plugins could be used to do a similar job but really helpful tips in here :) big ups
Super useful tips man! One thing I noticed with percussion, of course you can use panning, this will also give you a wider feel within your drums, something I didn’t see in the tutorial
Thanks for the in depth tutorial! I know you mentioned that you will probably do a complete video on sidechain but just a quick question: Is there a massive difference between doing sidechain with volume automations instead of routing it to a compressor and sidechaining the signal there? Thanks again! Subbed :)
I do use pan. Maybe not in this track as it is quite simple and there’s not too many elements going on. I use it a lot in my intros when I’ve got like 10 synths playing at the same time, all being panned in different directions to create a full sound
HEY BRO, Sick video i dont know if im being silly but at the start you say youre mixing the kick/snare at -6db, so howcome you drag the volume up to 1.5?
So the 1.5dB that you see if just how much I've gained the channel by, to see the voulme of the instrument, you need to look at the the current channel on the very left hand side (left of master channel)
@@InverseAudioUK I see mate thank you, was just confused as to get my kick and my snare down to -6db I have to decrease the channel volume instead of gain it like you have, I guess it just depends on the samples ?
@@nunu9849 it is routed, but with no volume. The fruity send is sending the volume. Which means I can mute the drum bus, and still hear the parallel compression by itself. Useful if I wanna hear my parallel compression solo’d
@@InverseAudioUK okay i get it now :) but after you know Its ok, you turn down the fruitysend volume of drums down? Or just reset it or it doesnt matter?
Talking about the level of the actual sound, which is displayed on the left hand side(the current channel). The gain of the mixer itself is just how much gain you’ve applied to it
bro i still dont understand mixing so is it just like adjusting the db of each invidual sample to a certain level so each element stands out and sounds better?
I tested decapitator (trial version) against softube saturation knob (free) on hats and snares today and, comparing with the basic settings on decapitator, the results were almost the same, as far as I could tell on my speakers anyway. I think saturation knob uses a tiny bit less cpu too. So I'm sticking with that for now. Decapitator has lots more flexibility though so if it goes on sale for $49 during black friday then I'm still going to buy it 😅
Subtitles are hilarious. You say "Three years down the line when you're trying to find that one mix you did..." and subtitles say "...when you're trying to find out what makes you dead". XD
Do I mix EQs and other effects on everything to make it sound like a song before I start this process? I can see you’ve bounced to stems so I figure there’s a part before all of this
No I didn’t eq before this, all the stems are 100% dry and unleveled. And like I said in the video, I always mix as I go but wanted to demonstrate how I would approach a mix like this
@@user-dm7fh4xo7u I’d say mix roughly when you make a song but once you’re at a point when you’re nearly done or finished then leave it for a day. Come back with a fresh ear and do a full mix. Hope that helps
I notice your session is currently about 600mb in the beginning of the video, when I export stems I was taught to export lossless wav and my session usually starts at about 5-6000mb, is this incorrect? Should I be using MP3 stems?
Nice sounding though, Pleasing to the ear! When most people process they smash the shit out of it. Yours is built up over a mix bit by bit, Than combined together.
As someone who first learned to mix music with recorded instruments, the idea that you can just set the kick, snare, sub etc to the same level consistently and be more or less set blew my mind when I first heard that kind of advice
Yeah if your hearing is affected then it might be a good idea. But I didn’t use this mix at all. Song was already out by the time I was recording this video and I just used the dry stems for it
You say "Sorry if this is all over the place, because I'm usually mixing when I'm producing"... Don't worry, an unfinished mix is supposed to sound all over the place, at least until you've got that first draft mix fully cooking. ;)
i have the problem that when i Export the track with sounds between -12 to -6 db that the Audio wave is way to small and its not loud enough :/ what can i do?🫶🏼 thx for the tutorials this TH-cam channel is insane❤

top dnb channel right now
This is the best video for mixing and mastering I've come across in many years of experience. I wish I had something like this a decade ago when I was just getting into producing dnb. Big up!
i was thinking the same thing
Oh wow I was literally searching for this kind of video all day. So glad you did this man. Love your content!! Have you ever considered making a full on dnb course?
Yes I have. Think this is something we're going to do in the summer, currently trying to juggle this and finishing a degree.
Ah I see man. Good luck with the degree. I imagine that must be a hard work, and I can’t even imagine how many hours you put into each video.
@@kerimallami This video took about 20 hours😂, but usually take around 8-12 hours
Haha sick man. And you provided so much value, you can’t even imagine. It’s so nice to be learning from someone who is few steps ahead, not someone who is like thousands. Can’t wait for the vocal video! 😎
Very cool video! Thank you for your efforts.
When will there be a detailed video on setting up and automating side chane???
cant wait to watch all of this
A lot of video to watch haha
I always come back to this video when i take a break just to refresh my brain and start making music again 🎉

probably the best mixing and mastering video ive come across
Wow, thanks!
Yeah its surprising how hard it is to find concise, complete mix downs honestly
Super useful tips man! One thing I noticed with percussion, of course you can use panning, this will also give you a wider feel within your drums, something I didn’t see in the tutorial
cool content again, cheers. I've noticed the same with the Splice vocals. Looking forward to seeing your vocal video at some point
Banging just what I needed brother, video on sidechaining would be handy 👌
Great video, should do how to Belgium jump up and include diffrent bass patterns
Great video brother really smashing it for the dnb community with these videos, prodiving value for the whole scene big ups
Thank you
Thank you for this!
When you are mentioning the level settings, are you talking RMS levels, not peak, right?
Thanks in advance!
Good job, keep up the good work! Always learning in your videos!
Fever is insane my dude, found it 5 months ago and i love it!
Thanks! Glad that you like it
my guy
Really top stuff mate 👌 More of this in the future please
Was waiting for this video to drop! Thank you!
Love your content man! Keep up the same energy 🙏
So dope! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks!

I know you mentioned that you will probably do a complete video on sidechain but just a quick question: Is there a massive difference between doing sidechain with volume automations instead of routing it to a compressor and sidechaining the signal there? You get more control by doing the automation manually I feel
Thanks a lot friend, the price of this video is high and certainly a lot of producers and especially I thank you for such great material for free!
Our pleasure!
Your videos are great man. I love them. 🔥🔥✌️
Sick vid with loads of gems! Defo need an in depth vocal processing vid too!
Thanks bro🙏 yeah vocal video will come
Just a quick one, did you eq everything before exporting the session or do you generally not eq drums etc?
Wow love this 🔥🔥🔥
Could you please share the flp of your template? Or make a video explaining how it's setup? Thank you
It's on our website
Awesome. Thanks!
Thanks!
Ahhh this guy ♥️
really nice work, top stuff.
wished u wud be on ableton 😢
what pair of headphones youre using?
Legend🤝
So perfect 👍
You sir are a legend 🫶🏼
So, do you keep your tracks in the center, no panning? (apart from the wider stereo expansion)
I do use pan. Maybe not in this track as it is quite simple and there’s not too many elements going on. I use it a lot in my intros when I’ve got like 10 synths playing at the same time, all being panned in different directions to create a full sound

21:24 why did you use FruitySend instead of just routing drumbuss to parallel and blending it's volume ?

quick question, mixing the volumes with the fader is that after you've gain staged? Thanks
when your adjusting the levels at the start for each layer, how come when you say -6db or -9db that the track on the mixer is saying 1.5
Basically. You just want everything to be balanced, audible and cohesive
is there a cheaper of free alternative to decapitator?
I tested decapitator (trial version) against softube saturation knob (free) on hats and snares today and, comparing with the basic settings on decapitator, the results were almost the same, as far as I could tell on my speakers anyway.
