Double steam power on the Rovos Rail

Steam traction made a return to Gauteng's railways when Rovos Rail ran a special test train from Capital Park to Pyramid South and back on the 20th of September 2022 in preparation for the great train race which would take place in Heidelberg,Gauteng on the 25th of September 2022.
Leading the train was two of Rovos's steam locomotives,a 6th class named Tiffany and a class 19D named Shaun. One of Rovos's diesel locomotives a G26C was coupled to the rear of the train which would assist the train back to Capital Park.

Nice to see Rovos with thier own Diesel engines. Ideally one should have as little as possible to do with Transnet

I agree Transnet has being giving Rovos greater freedom when it comes to using their own locomotives which is great for Rovos. Puts them more in control of their own operations

Why are the overhead gantry structures still kept, it so unsightly

Eventually, the cables will be replaced. As of March 2024, they've replaced most of it around this area
