Lol you can use a spring from a pen but I bought a bunch of springs and am having fun looking for a 5 x 5 spring to cut in half.

How do you keep the graphite from rubbing off and showing the base color?

I don't know what you mean... 😅 All the parts are just printed in different colors, they're not painted.

@Jaatinen3D oh no, I mean when I put graphite on the white base coat some will rub off showing white. Does clear coating the graphite stop that?
