Black smoke was going all over the front of their house and the smell was awful. What about that elderly couples rights ?. They shouldn't have to put up with that at all and are probably to scared to say anything. There was about 6 men around the BBQ. I was born down the road in Sefton General mid 1950 ‘s . That area has been teeming with rats, mice & cockroaches since before I was even born . The rats were massive as big as cats ,I was renovating an old bombed house not far away near tunnel road a couple of decades back , & huge rat came out the elecky cupboard in the front lounge & nicked my ham sarnie & had the brass neck to sit up in front of me holding it with its paws & munching it down it’s neck . There were slums in the past ofc. But from what I've read, people still took pride in their homes, making them as clean and orderly as possible, and presumably their streets too. The opposite is true today of our slum-dwellers. What changed? I think the people who live in these dirty, litter-strewn areas today have much more disposable income, never get held accountable for their laziness and refusal to work, and there are no longer real communities due to a more mobile workforce and mass immigration.
You're right, a lot of homes like these aren't really homes, they're short term private spaces to rent on the hop, so the people living in them take no pride in the place, they'll see these places as just another none essential stepping stone...

We should be ploughing our tax money into our own streets. Put our people into 4 star hotels whilst they bulldoze, rebuild, refurbish, or whatever it takes. It's crazy the rapid rate of decay we are seeing. I grew up with exactly what you commented and I'm thankful for being born in that era. Unfortunately we are now in a society where that generation is now elderly and they aren't fit for purpose in British politics. I was born in Liverpool in 1962 but my father took me out of there to Australia when i was 2 so unfortunately barely know of my relatives there as they all stayed and my father was to only one to leave. Some visited back the the late 60s but that was about it. Looking at Liverpool and England as a whole I'm glad my old man brought me out here to South Australia, I think I've probably had it better here than back there. My mother wanted to go back after we'd been here for a few years and I remember my dad saying to her he can't stop her going back, but there's no way he's going back and he said that the lad stays with him because there's nothing back there for me or him. This is one of Liverpools most run down areas tho, not all of Liverpool looks like this the city has alot to offer trust me great night life, shopping, restaurants, architecture, an amazing waterfront and the city always has something going on events, festivals. Most terraced houses have a back yard albeit small, typically housing built for the railways or dock workers I would guess in Liverpool. My friend lives off smithdown rd in talton rd. around the area is mostly student let’s and new imigrants occupiers, they all just put crap outside and I’ve had to get council on many occasions to remove, freezers, mattresses,seating week after week because the occupiers don’t care.its turning into a 3rd world area.

@Mick-1415 I noticed a group of romainians cooking with a BBQ at 9.30am in sunlight street. Their neighbour is an elderly couple who have lived their for years. Black smoke was going all over the front of their house and the smell was awful.
What about that elderly couples rights ?. They shouldn't have to put up with that at all and are probably to scared to say anything. There was about 6 men around the BBQ. No considerations for the impact that may be having on anyone else in that street. Nor the rats that will attract.

My Grandmother always wanted a (council) house in Salford. She eventually did a swap and got a house off liverpool street in Seedley, it was a S-it tip and took a lot of work from my Grandad to put right. When I saw it in the 70's-80's it was spotless. So much pride in what little they had. So proud of her and how she set the standard which I have!
What was that documentary about the Roma gypsy from Romania, moved to the UK with half his family, claimed £10000 in benefits, every penny sent back home to add a bathroom,amongst other things, to his own built shack back in Romania. There were slums in the past ofc. But from what I've read, people still took pride in their homes, making them as clean and orderly as possible, and presumably their streets too. The opposite is true today of our slum-dwellers. What changed? I think the people who live in these dirty, litter-strewn areas today have much more disposable income, never get held accountable for their laziness and refusal to work, and there are no longer real communities due to a more mobile workforce and mass immigration.
I think you need to see footage of 70s slums and think again, to say nothing of what they would have been like 100 years ago.

I was born in Liverpool in 1962 but my father took me out of there to Australia when i was 2 so unfortunately barely know of my relatives there as they all stayed and my father was to only one to leave. Some visited back the the late 60s but that was about it. Looking at Liverpool and England as a whole I'm glad my old man brought me out here to South Australia, I think I've probably had it better here than back there. My mother wanted to go back after we'd been here for a few years and I remember my dad saying to her he can't stop her going back, but there's no way he's going back and he said that the lad stays with him because there's nothing back there for me or him. I'm an O'Neill if anyone reads this and might be a relative
This is one of Liverpools most run down areas tho, not all of Liverpool looks like this the city has alot to offer trust me great night life, shopping, restaurants, architecture, an amazing waterfront and the city always has something going on events, festivals. I hate the 21st century wish i was born in a time when everyone took pride and joy in their homes, neighbourhoods etc nothing to look forward too anymore.
Most terraced houses have a back yard albeit small, typically housing built for the railways or dock workers I would guess in Liverpool. So have a barbecue in the back yard, NOT on the public pavement. A real cry for help from the Romanian guy, Billy. Good to see Alex and Amie no longer homeless, even in that damp fleapit. Great video
My friend lives off smithdown rd in talton rd. around the area is mostly student let’s and new imigrants occupiers, they all just put crap outside and I’ve had to get council on many occasions to remove, freezers, mattresses,seating week after week because the occupiers don’t care.its turning into a 3rd world area.
