As a Rwandan I would say the same thing. Most of us Africans grow up playing football and don’t really care about basketball until you go to high school. But all I can say is that Jordan is bigger than the NBA itself. We all knew him just like Jackson, Bob Marley, Mandela, MLK, Obama.. they changed the fate of how the world looks at black people. I’m 46 years old,Gen X, and I have been lucky enough to see MJ,Kobe and LeBron play live. I’m from Phoenix and I was at the two home games we had against the Bulls in 1993 when they beat us,The Suns,in the 1993 NBA finals. It was amazing to see MJ do what he did. The Suns had a great team also. Barkley,KJ(Kevin Johnson,Dan Marjerle,Tom Chambers,Cedric Ceballos. We got to the finals for a reason but it just wasn’t enough to beat the Bulls. I moved to Los Angeles in 1997 and my good friend had season tickets to the Lakers and I went to the 2000 finals and got to see Kobe play and it was Frobee at the time. I also got to see James play a few times live but there was nothing like watching MJ play. When Allen Iverson talked about when he first seen MJ come out on the court his rookie year AI said that he seen an aura around Mike. Seeing Mike in person was like seeing some sort of God or something. It didn’t seem real. To me MJ will always be the greatest player of all time. MJ did so much for the sport of basketball. Yes basketball was popular but nothing like what it became worldwide because of Mike. Everyone wanted to “Be like Mike”. I think that Pippen, who was my second favorite player growing up,was wrong with going after Mike like that. We all know that MJ was the star of the Bulls franchise and Scottie was his wingman. That 72-10 Bulls team with Rodman was the best team to ever play the game of basketball in my opinion.

Help me out… I saw an MJ dunk over a Suns Barkley that was wicked, but never have found a replay. MJ was up top on the left, drove in the lane, Barkley was on the right block, went to the front of the rim to try and defend, both met chest-to-chest in mid-air… Jordan reached over Barkley and jammed it as he went through Barkley and knocked him on his back under the basket.
Jordan hung on the rim with Barkley on his back looking up as Jordan looked down…
Jordan dropped, split his legs so not to land on Barkley, switched his foot position over a decked Barkley and ran up the court.
Barkley picked himself up off the court and jogged down on offense shaking his head…
Do you remember what game that was?
That might the best power dunk I’ve ever seen. Jordan mashed Barkley like a rag doll, and Barkley was a tank!
He went right through and over him… not around him.

I was really only a bulls fan. I loved watching MJ play live. All the championships was something special because you know MJ would deliver. And when Rodman was on team you was double excited pushing him screaming at tv “yea baby get that rebound!” lol. And playing against Shaq being excited when he got 5 fouls cause he had to sit out playing against Bulls. Man what a time. After Jordan retired first time, game wasn’t the same to me. No. At the time Jordan was playing, he was 3x better than any other player in the history of the game. Pippen was his wingman. He was an all-star for sure. But take any all-star and replace him with Pippen and Jordan still wins 6 titles. Jordan wasn’t an all-star. He was 3x better than anyone else in the league. When Jordan retired for good, Pippen took the leader role. The Bulls were still good, but “ouch” Pippen could not fill Jordan’s shoes leading a team. Not even close.

Regarding the contract/money Pippen is said to be bitter about. For context, Michael Jordan earned 96M in salaries playing for the Bulls. 63M OF HIS SALARY CAME FROM HIS LAST TWO SEASONS, before that Jordan was paid, on average, of around 3M per season since his rookie year till 1996.
A LOT of his contemporaries with contracts signed before NBA blew up were in the same situation so it's not only him whofelt they "didn't get paid" enough, he just got the worst end of it because he signed the longest contract.

Michael Jordan was a “brand” but also a huge athletic star not just in the US but around the world when I was growing up in the late 80s and 90s.
The US Olympics Dream Team were like the Gods of Basketball.
Scottie Pippen’s jealousy and bitterness is kind of understandable but I think over time you should get over this and think about the things you did gain and rekindle the good side and positives of your past relationship with Michael Jordan rather than trying to disown it and try to create another narrative because you have some negativity in you about Jordan.

Here's what I think about the Pippen and Jordan feud.
I think back when he was drafted Pippen was molded into a player whose ceiling was never going to exceed the likes of Jordan, usually a player like Pippen was coached to eventually be the predecessor, but no one was ever going to take over unless Jordan retired or left. He was molded to be the Bulls second best player, a defensive stopper that in order for Jordan to win games, Pippen had to guard multiple players, and massage the other team mates to ignore the bullying from Jordan. Pippen did all the dirty work so Jordan could take all the credit. Case in point...Pippen would guard the other teams highest scoring player, Jordan got all those All Defensive Teams guarding the other teams PG. I'm not saying Jordan wasn't an elite defender, it's that Pippen knew what Jordan meant for the league and how important it was for Jordan to play 82 games, and could see that if he played his role they'd be champions. Jordan would guard Hersey Hawkins/Mo Cheeks, Mugsy Bogues, Spud Webb, Craig Ehlo, Doc Rivers, none of these guys were scorers. Pippen would take Glenn Rice, Jon Starks, Ron Harper, Dominque Wilkins, Larry Bird, and Charles Barkley.
I think after the Last Dance, the dude threw up his hands and was like "Bro, I basically made it possible for you to look as good as you did AND win championships, win MVP's and you gonna do me like that"??...I believe during the late 80's it was wildly known Jordan couldn't win championships while winning scoring titles. Pippen was never created to take over after Jordan left, I think he found this to be a great betrayal by all 3, Jackson, Jordan and Krause.
Jordan refused to score less i believe, it's the same thing that happened between Phil and Kobe, Odom. But Kobe actually agreed to pass the ball. I think his team mates feel they had to sacrifice shots, play defense, to win and Jordan get his points.

@@patinho5589 Yeah, I just think he had expectations that he wasn't gonna get, Phil Jackson was never doing to let him take the final shots, and his assignments were always the other teams greatest player for the most part. It was by design to keep Jordan fresh, to sell tickets, to play 82 games. When Pippen was out in the Last Dance I think Jordan wanted to "rub it in" when he talked about his sacrifice to the team when he had to play point guard for those games Pippen was out. I think Pippen was thinking "Look pal, I've been making sacrifices for years for you, and you're gonna put that I'm selfish, and I'm not even good enough for the final shot of games?"
I'm not siding for Pippen, I just think there's both sides to the story. He could have butted heads with Jordan and took 15-20 shots a game and forced the Bulls to trade him. But he didn't and I think he feels owed for that.
