This is the first video I'm watching of yours and honestly as a Dragon Ball and Sonic fan? It's really solid. It's doing a good job of highlighting the many similarities between the two, many of which I know and some I wouldn't, I ADORE that you addressed how pointing out similarities is not the same as saying two series ripped each other off (Side tangent here, people who write something off based on similarities or feel the need to take shots at another because they have those are incredibly sad individuals who I urge to grow beyond the high school clique phase they're clearly stuck in.). I think the only complaint I have is the editing. Not that it's bad, it's in fact incredibly proficient and certainly does stuff I could never do. I just think paired with the script and what's going on, it's a bit too chaotic and hard to follow. I genuinely have to pause a few times because my eyes are feeling strain. That being said, certainly am still gonna sub.
16:56 To bust out the Dragon Ball nerd in me. The coloring of the Super Saiyan eyes here is a result of the limited color pages. In Weekly Shonen Jump where Dragon Ball was initially published, some chapters would be given color, usually by way of the first couple pages being full color while the the rest were colored in this limited palette of red and black with maybe some exceptions for the sake of skin tone and small details like Goku's laces. The red eyes were the result of this. Now apparently Cooler's Revenge originally was considering having Goku with red eyes with the drawing you show being done primarily to demonstrate the hues and such to be used for the form did portray it with red eyes. That being said, the chapter cover for Chapter 323, "The Two Wishes" gave us a full color image of Super Saiyan showing it with the greenish blue eyes most know it for and that came around April 27, 1991. Though it's funny because it's reflective of how inconsistent Toriyama could be drawing his own characters since like a lot of manga creators, while he had general ideas for the coloring, it's not something he really considered since the manga's mostly black and white. For instance, King Kai was never colored consistently, we've seen Korin/Karin be colored blue and then there are mistakes that had to be corrected such as Android 18 being drawn with white hair many times by Toriyama and sometimes coloring just stuck because that's all the artist had to go off of such as Bulma's hair being blue in the very first chapter for the color pages which is what the anime went with but then when the hair color was made purple and carried over to Trunks, the anime just threw up its hands and made Trunks' hair purple.
Parallel comparisons are supposed to be *FUN* , not accusations of blatant rip-offs, all because one franchise is more popular than the other and hasn't made as many mistakes. Also, don't throw Bo-bobo under the bus, just because you don't appreciate its humor (assuming that's what that was). And technically speaking, those two shows were never next to each other during its original time slot. There were no reruns (apart from the first episode) either.
He was just joking about how funny it was that one moment you could be watching Dragon Ball and the next you could just see something ridiculous like what one would see in Bo-bobo. He still noted he liked it.
This video was fcking awesome, man. I got into Sonic from old flash games and Sonic generations. And I got into dragon ball from my uncle and old amv’s.

I'll say something to add on your Prefaces, not to hate on what you said but rather to agree with it and make things clear: Sonic has many *parallels* with Dragon Ball Sonic has a few *inspirations* from Dragon Ball (At least confirmed ones) Many of the things people say to be simillar in both series, like the Echidnas and Namekians, Knuckles and Piccolo, Sonic and Goku, etc. were never confirmed to be inspired, some were even denied to be the case, like Sonic being inspired by Goku as confirmed by Naoto Ohshima (and some might just be a common idea/concept used by many different media) it's still impossible to deny that those who aren't directly inspired still are surprisingly simillar, hence why so many people talk about it And obviously, there are direct inspirations from the Dragon Ball series in Sonic, Silver's writting inspired by Future Trunks, Shadow having Vegeta's name listed in one of his concept arts, Surge the Tenrec and Kitsunami the Fennec being said to be inspired by 17 and 18, obviously Super Sonic being inspired by the Super Saiyan, Sonic and Tails' relationship being inspired by Piccolo and Kid Gohan, Blue Sphere Special Stages being inspired by King Kai's Planet, etc. Of course, having inspirations doesn't mean they're copies, even with the non-intentional parallels and the intentional inspirations, Sonic still manages to do its own original twist to these concepts It's basically what you said, and I liked how you worded it (And quick here, Sonic's concept name was Mr. Hedgehog, Mr. Needlemouse is a mistranslation from Harinezumi (which means hedgehog) the word is formed by "Hari" (Needle) and "Nezumi" (mouse) since hedgehogs are basically a mouse with quills, so the word hedgehog in japanese is the fusion of both words, and the name Maurice, you should already know but it's Archie canon only, and the one in Prime, most people can't even confirm if that description is actually real, but if it was, it was soon removed anyway)
Yeah but Shadow as a character isn't inspired specifically by Vegeta. There's just an aspect of him that is, which I believe was supposed to be his scowl and body language. His personality couldn't be further from Vegeta. Infinite on the other hand...
@@somehelluvafanboy8357 It's not. Basically a series description popped up including a small bit joking that his middle name is actually Maurice as a nod to the Archie comics. But no one's been able to truly confirm if that description was real and even so it's not that on Netflix so no, Sonic's real name is not Maurice nor is it his middle name.
@@KKHell I can kinda see Bass. But I doubt that. I think his personality is just based on his storyline, as it's also drastically changed throughout his installments. (Please don't say whatever joke you just thought in your head. LOL) Regardless, I don't think he's particularly BASED on any one thing.
Final comment but to answer the question. I'm certain I got into Sonic first and that was through Sonic Heroes. I was a PS2 kid and while I was aware of Sonic because I'd seen the blue dude every so often through ads, I wasn't a fan yet. But there was something about the Heroes ads that made me specifically want to play the game and so the game wound up being picked up at one point during a trip out. I was hooked from that point onward. Didn't matter I was playing what is considered the worst version of that game, I had never experienced high speed action like that before from a video game and my little brain was rocked. Later I'd try keeping up with Sonic X, would play the older Genesis games through Mega Collection Plus and I'd keep up with later releases like Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic '06 which I initially liked at the time and... god I remember getting hyped for Sonic Unleashed. Dragon Ball is interesting to talk about because my first exposure to it was through GT. I happened to catch one day a random episode of GT from the Super 17 Saga and watched as a tiny monkey boy fought a big buff guy who had no eyebrows. That tiny monkey boy went blonde and later grew into a big deep voiced monkey man and overall I had NO idea what the hell I was watching but it intrigued me. However, I didn't really get into watching the series because I didn't have exactly the interest to really go for it. Then one night on Toonami, very late, they began airing the Ultimate Uncut editions of Dragon Ball Z, starting with the Saiyan Saga and it was then I was hooked. I tried my damnedest to stay up every Saturday night to watch Dragon Ball Z and I did a decent job keeping up with it even if I watched stuff out of order thanks to On Demand... and was baffled by the voice cast not realizing that the Ultimate Uncut dub redubbed a lot of stuff while On Demand had the original broadcast dub. Otherwise, I was able to keep up with the series but not without spoiling myself on a lot of things. Aside from the fact I only watched the anime up through the first couple fights of the Cell Game, I had experienced many sagas through the games. I saw Freeza's final form and the androids first in Budokai 2 because when my love grew, I was starting to be given games from the series when they came out. I experienced Cell via Sagas and basically the rest of the show and GT through BT2 and because this was during when I started to browse the internet, I went online and looked up stuff about the series, spotting all the crazy AF stuff, Broly who I remembered seeing in a video for the fighting game engine MUGEN and AMVs before seeing the movie, experiencing through MUGEN Dragon Ball characters that gave me my first exposure to the Japanese and Spanish voices which because I was a dumb American kid I rejected because they didn't sound like what I knew. First Sonic game was Sonic 1 on the Sega Genesis, though my introduction to the blue blur was one of the two Dic cartoons, I can't remember if was SatAM or AoStH that I saw first. As for Dragonball I first was introduced to it via a friend during the Cell Saga on Toonami. I mostly agree with what is said here and the editing was really good. Though Shadow = Vegeta only seems to work on the basest of surface levels and falls apart when looking deeper unlike Sonic and Goku. I also personally never saw Gamma as the robot but the Flicky inside of it, due to it's memories being the thing that sets Gamma on it's quest and to befriend Amy, the mission being to free it's siblings not kill them, the Flicky reappearing in the final story and oddly enough Prime. (though Prime is as bad as Forces when it comes to continuity and characterization) That being said I do agree with the 16 comparison. The ages thing just confuses me? With Multiverse Classic theory spawned from Forces being thoroughly debunked by Tailstube, offical interviews and the Generations remake that would mean Classic is indeed Sonic's younger self. So there is no way for Modern to be younger then his Classic self. Looking at the ages Sonic is always 15 BUT in the transition to the Modern Era in Adventure most of the characters not named Sonic were aged up by 4 years suggesting a 4 year time gap between the eras. If we take that into account that would make Classic's real age to be 11, Sonic from Adventure to Colors 15 and then finally 16 onward from Generations.
