When you said the harpoon point might hit you knuckles i thought that was ridiculous and wouldnt even matter but since flipping you are very correct. That sucker is more pointy than it looks and when you ricochet it off the fingers you notice.
I was wondering if I was alone, but I guess not. I was looking for a video showing if anyone ground it down, because I am at that point that I need to do that.
Hands down the best knife I’ve purchased thus far. I’m new to knife collecting and I wanted a Balisong I could EDC and this looked like it fit the Bill. Boy it sure has! Came screamingly sharp and has held its edge for a MUCH longer time than all my previous 440-A and 440-C knives. Easy to maintain so long as I keep running it across my fine-grit stone and then stropping it after. Sharpest knife I think I’ve had so far. I’m sure an M390 steel blade is even better but I’m more than happy with this for the time being. I’m hoping it holds up well over time. Thank you for making this video, it was a great help in making my decision to buy this knife!
Dang I didn’t realize Boker finally released their live blades to the US market. Just ordered this bali but the European version last night in 440c without a pocket clip. Dohh! Thanks for the video review!
Update: it did come w a pocket clip but the blade steel is no longer 440c and is now 9cr13... dealer listing was inaccurate but did provide a partial credit for the blunder. Recommend buying the US version in D2 steel unless looking specifically for stainless steel. I could have returned it but with the discount it still a good bali for the price point and ended up costing me about $70 shipped so not bad and makes a good edc. Latch works well and bearing pivots are nice and smooth with minimal handle play after tuning the pivots.
@@macddesignreview-make-and-4207 do you have video of opening this knife etc just thinking how the f i get scales off. i havent buy it yet but thinking on it
After watching this video and a couple others, I decided to buy it. It came today and I had it a whopping three hours before it went to hell. It will not lock closed at all now, and I noticed the handles are very loose up towards the base of the blade. Has anyone had this issue yet? And would there be a way to fix it?
Not had any issues with mine. You will more than likely have to remove the g10 handle scales to get to the pivot and latch hardware. Hopefully they have just come lose and you can retighten them and maybe put little blue locktite on the threads.
Woke up this morning and took it apart, the issue was in fact the pivot. After tightening them both up it now works fine. I'm just afraid that with little play it will continue to loosen. If so I'll try a little loctite. Thank you so much for your advice. :)
Mine is doing the exact same thing which is why I looked up videos about this knife. Hope I can get this fixed. The handles are loose but I’m more worried about it not locking.
Its well made out of box, no handle play, smooth. Add a little oil to the pivots and its comfortable to flip. It is on the shorter side compared to a full size balisong like the lucha. The handles are not very textured besides the xx's on the the g10 which is helpful for rollovers. This knife is probably better as edc thats flippable if you looking for that.
@@Rack47 I have been watching vids with people that have better knowledge on the subject and you shouldn't use oil at all. This knife runs on bearings and doesnt require oil. If you use oil on bearings then it can trap dust and junk in the bearings and youll have to clean them sooner. Again not from my own experience because i dont have enough yet. Just from a common sense perspective it makes sense though. (The oil i used on it was the stuff that came from bladhq in their bundle pack because i couldnt find my benchmade blue lube). I found out about not using lube on bearing after i oiled up all my new knives. To be fair though it felt like that boker needed something out of the box. It has a weird feeling when flipping like kind of slow and a little spongy feeling? Not exactly free flowing with those handles thats why i even added the oil.
D2 isnt really a "premium" steel. Its a great bang for the buck steel, but doesnt have the edge retention or toughness of more premium options like m390
Yeah any knife that comes out of the box that can't shave paper goes right back in the box. I have both versions of the lucha and I wouldn't trade either of them for any other balisong including a benchmade
Sorry, but I have used and practiced w/ Balisongs for years and this is a beautiful knife but after just a couple of days of manipulating it it wouldn't stay closed and the scales loosened up and it go sloppy. My Benchmade is still tight after years of use. Don't get me wrong, I own several Bokers and I love them and I was initially impressed by this knife but I should be able to manipulate/open/close it without it going gunny-bag in a couple of days. Maybe they need to publish directions for maintenance? I am going to modify it with larger hinge screws and reduce the spring rate of the latch and increase/grind the indentation for the latch area so it will once again lock closed. I am very disappointed in this knife. Flipped it for a couple of days and it shit-the-bed on me. It didn't hold up as long as a cheap Chinese import.
Sorry you had that experience min has been just fine. Although there new one called the Papillon I've had that issue and its super frustrating especially for $100 knife.
@@macddesignreview-make-and-4207 Well, it appears the blade “hinge screws had loosened up. My son removed the scales and tightened the screws with Loctite Blue and it appears to have fixed it for now. Keep in mind I had just received it a few days ago and only flipped it a couple dozen times before it loosened up. Wouldn’t stay latched wither as when it was loose there was a about a 3/32nd gap between the latch and the handle. Tightening the hinge screws fixed that as well. I’ll keep you posted.
I’d say get the real thing, if it’s available to you. Clones can be hit an miss on quality, and that’s aside from them basically stealing intellectual property from the original designer. Thanks for your question and watching the video. Hope this helps with your decision.
@@macddesignreview-make-and-4207 yeah l know what you mean but I don’t wanna spend like 200€ on a knife yet I’m just getting into this balisong flipping stuff I’ll try getting the one on the video it looks nice
You can access the pivots by removing the scales. Unfortunately removing the scales causes you to have to fully disassemble the knife and is difficult to tune and test swing without parts falling off. Its doable as I've done it buts it's a pain. Make sure you loctite it and that is exactly how you want.
Actually this version isn they arnt able to import balisongs/ butterfly knives into the USA do to restriction so, the have to make them here for the USA market . The version of this that is sold in Europe is not USA made, and I believe is made from 440 stainless rather than D2.

Very cool, glad you like it.
I just purchased an all-black steel version with red screws from my knife buddy and I love it!
Better than the Benchmade 51 in price. I actually love this as just an edc.
I think it makes a great edc also.
as a flipper, should i buy it or save for a kershaw lucha?

Its wild how many people don't know what blue loctite is for. The bokers definitely need it and its not a big deal.
Good review brotha, i went ahead and ordered myself one
Thanks,
great video man hows the blade been holding up these past 3 years ?
It's still good. In all fairness though I havnt used it on the regular those 3 years. Thanks for watching.
Can you adjust the pivot screws (if there is even any screws)?
The pivots and zen pins are hidden behind the handle scales i havnt had them off yet to check.
