I live in India so getting access to a good portafilter was difficult but I got one from Amazon imported from China. My issue is that I can barely get more than 10 grams of coffee in it. I grind it at 3.5 grind size. Further, if I add more, the machine hangs, and all lights flash. 2. Either I have to remove the portafilter, throw away the coffee, and fill it with less and press the 2-cup button again. Sometimes, it works and the coffee is extracted. 3. When I steam the milk, I saw that the single and double cup buttons light up. I saw that here too. Is that a sign that it's overheated? When I try to extract another cup, I switch the machine off and on again. Should I just press the one or two cup button? I'm scared to do something that will damage the machine. 4. Hi Samir! I don't know which basket you are using, but most double baskets hold 14-16 grams. You will need your own capable grinder, or you won't be able to dial in. Hi Tom! Can you explain how to deliver 9 bars on the Dedica? It is just to not tamp too hard? Also, the claimed 12 bars its measured with the artificial pressure from the pressurized filter?
Hey Guilherme! The maximum this machine can deliver, measured at the Porta filter is 11 bar. However, that is only if using a blind disk. I also installed an in-line manometer, and found the extraction to be between eight and nine bar with an espresso puck. Just check out my video on how to install a Manometer. 👍🏻
I'm wondering to buy Eureka Mignon Specialita grinder for my Delonghi Dedica and wondering if a standard Dedica portafilter fits into Mignon Specialita's portafilter holder. I see an adjustment screw, but will the portafilter fit in there, Tom? I use the standard Dedica portafilter with a plastic insert taken out with a non-pressurized basket.
Hi Trady, no it does not fit - it's too tall. The bottomless ones don't fit well either, since they have no spouts to hold them in place. Therefore, I use either a dosing cup, or just hold the bottomless PF in place during the grind.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner thank you for the answer. Does it mean I can hold the standard PF in place during while grinding or it doesn't fit there at all? If the latter, it seems I will buy a bottomless PF or a dosing cup. Is there a dosing cup you recommend for Dedica PF? Good quality and not so expensive. Cheers, Bart.
@@tradycyjnegoleniezbartgee Hey Bart, you can just use any little cup you have in your household, you don't need to buy one. As long as you have a dosing funnel, anyways.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner I see there's an option to remove the PF holder (aka fork as they call it) completely without even a screwdriver. So when I remove it I can use any portafilter. I'm used to holding PF myself. I did it while grinding on Graef CM702, which sadly got broken. After 4 years of intensive usage one of supporting legs in a hopper cracked and a piece of a plastic fell into the burrs. Then it caused the upper burr plastic holder crack. I could order the upper burr with the holder, but probably the best would be to replace both burrs. It's not viable because the upper and the lower burrs would cost almost the same as a new CM702. So I made a decision to go a step further and save some money to buy Eureka Mignon Specialita. Will get all money for that purpose in July/August. For the moment I use 1Zpresso Q2. It's capable of espresso grinding, but it take 1 minute and 20-30 secs every morning 😁, so usually it wakes me up before I drink the espresso 🤣. I could buy Graef CM902 now, but decided to save money to buy Mignon Specialita. I suppose burrs mounting is the same as in CM702, so there are plastic mounts too.

Great vids. Please help me dicide between a rancilio silvia pro x and a ascaso duo steel pid. I am just put off about heating time on silvia, can't wait 30 min in the morning. On the other side not sure about ascaso reliability, didn't heat much about that company. Thanks a lot
Hi there! Thanks for the question. To be honest, I have not had a Silvia Pro X yet, but I have had the Ascaso Steel Duo Pro, and I used to own a Rancilio Silvia. These are two different machines. The Ascaso has 2 thermoblocks, while the Rancilio has two boilers. The Ascaso is a newer company, while Rancilio has been established longer. Aesthetically, I prefer the Ascaso, but that is subjective. Longevity wise, I am guessing the Rancilio will be better. Both machines benefit from at least 15 minute start up time, to get the brew head and portafilter warmed up. But you can likely put both on a wifi timer. Which do you like, looks wise? Which market are you in? Do you prefer thermoblocks over boilers? They are both expensive, so I would suggest you watch a bunch of YT videos from different creators on both machines. Curious, which one you choose! Tom
Hi tom, greetings from Indonesia ! First of all i'd like to thank you for making so many informative videos, especially in regards of ec685. And i ended up bought one last week, did all your tips (the simple ones), and i love this machine hehehe. However, i have a question about the milk steam. The steam always comes out late. Hello, Maybe you can help me out I'm using the Dedica with a 1z expresso hand grinder set too 14.5 along with 1 week old beans and can get extraction 14g in 28 out in 23sec but it seems to always be on the sour side any thoughts crema Is good shot looks beautiful but is sour ?
Hi Antonio, it sure seems like you’re doing things right. Are these light roasted beans? Have you tried the temp hack? Some beans, I’ve found, are just simply acidic no matter what. But I’m guessing they are a light or medium roast. Have you tried another bean?
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Hey Tom! Thanks for your reply. Yes they are Medium Roast described as balance between chocolate and Carmel with bright fruit Finnish. I'm very new to exsperesso and thus just tried the freshest beans I could get maybe that's my problem and I need a darker roast. Would a higher temp cut back on acidity? I try to prepare from 7grams of coffee single espresso but The extraction takes only 15s. I make that in double basket. Do I need single basket for single espresso?
I have problem with proportions. I don’t understand that very well. When I am making espresso with 14g of coffee, there should be 28-30s time of extraction and that is equal to 28g of espressoo? What about milk? How to calculate that? In some portafilters you can make 18g of coffee and in another only 7g. How to calculate how much milk do I need to for example cappuccino? Sorry for so many questions, but i didn’t find any video which explain that really well 😅 Another suggestion from me is that you can make a video on interpreting coffee bean descriptions such as 7 intensity or 5 strength :)
Hey there! It is pretty simple, actually. If you have 14 grams in, then aim for twice that, or 28grams out. You can aim for 20-25 seconds. It kind of depends on the flow rate of the machine, without load, which is kind of high for the Dedica, and Gaggia, too. Each basket will have its own weight, but they are generally 7-8 grams for a single, or 14-16 grams for a double. Just fill up the milk to the bottom of the spout, and start spinning. Add a little air first, then incorporate. 👍
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Okay, then when I have 7-8 grams in basket, then I aim for 14-16 seconds and I get 14g of coffee? Is that right? And second question, I think the last ;D, when I have a basket which holds for example 20grams of coffee, then can I make therein 7-8 grams of coffee? I am asking because in one forum I read that the pressure will be worse and I should use smaller basket for smaller amount of coffee.
@@seba300PL Not quite… You are looking to get a one to two or a one to three ratio. So so if you put 20 g in, you should get 40 to 60 g of liquid out. The timing just tells you if you need to grind finer or not.
Hi Tom, I would like to ask you a question that I have been searching for an answer to and I think you will be able to help me with it. I have a delonghi dedica and while making espresso the water keeps leaking out of the steaming wand. Which causes loss of power and pressure during brewing. I have tried descaling it a few times but it hasn't helped. Do you happen to know what can be done about it?
Hey Gabriel, I am guessing this valve needs replacing: www.juraprofi.de/DeLonghi-Ersatzteile/Ventile-und-Schalter/Dampf-Heisswasserventil-fuer-DeLonghi-EC::16324.html

Hi Tom! Thank you for your channel! I'm a newbie in espresso brewing and watched your videos carefully. I just bought a dedica and was wondering if I'm doing something wrong. The espresso is great but my puck is wet all the time. Slight water is left on the puck. I'm using bottomless filter. Am I doing anything wrong?
Hey Ashelee! It depends on various things like grind setting, puck density, the kind of beans, and so on. Mine are quite dry, but I let them sit for 1-2 minutes afterwards. There is still pressure on the group head since there is no 3 way valve. So, don't remove the portafilter too early. Cheers!

@@gaborsimko3870 Hi Gabor, I guess that I am "lucky" to have three different machines to use and can heartily recommend that you spend the extra cash to buy the Bambino Plus. It is a much better machine than either the Dedica or the the Bambino. I have all three set up with bottomless portafilters which is a 'must' in my opinion. The Bambino Plus ( and the Bambino) has a bigger basket than the Dedica 55mm as opposed to 51mm and the steam wand is the best of the three of them by far. Fresh alpine milk. Wow that must be good. Or is it just a brand name for regular cheap milk?
Haha, yes it is from farmers near the alps region.
@@tradycyjnegoleniezbartgee The original PF will not fit at all on the Mignon.
Hallo Tom, welchen Mahlgrad verwendest dubei der Eureka?
Servus!
Gruss!

Tom
Just bought this machine, but mine cannot pump 14grams of coffee grinds ? Maximum I tried is 11grams. Any inputs?
I would try a non pressurized basket...it has more volume. Cheers!

Sweet! Thanks for watching

I mean when i turn the steam knob, it takes around 2 seconds for the steam to gradually come out. Is it normal?
Yes, it takes time for the steam to build up and exit. You should purge the condensation water first anyway. Cheers!
@@TomsCoffeeCorner I dont know why i cant post a comment with a link :( If you may please check shorts i made in my channel tom. So maybe you can see what my concern is about :)
After you have made your coffee heated the milk the lights start flashing. If i want to make another cup of coffee, i can't use it. I need to push the power button, turn on again to make another cup. Must be a simpler way.

I could try the temp float hack u mentioned cycle steam for three blips and then brew. Again thanks for your vids and support!
@@fasterdanu1 Yes, try the temp steam hack. But just know that some beans will have acidity no matter what. I have some nice medium roasted beans, that are quite acidic, regardless of the machine I use. Where are you located? Maybe I could suggest some beans.
Hi Tom, are you using Eureka grinder ?
Yes sir, it’s this one: geni.us/EurekaSpecialita
I try to prepare from 7grams of coffee single espresso but The extraction takes only 15s. I make that in double basket. Do I need single basket for single espresso?
Yes you do. There’s too much head space otherwise.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner I noticed that a lot of people say they do a single espresso but they give 14grams of coffee. Does it dependens of ratio?
I have problem with proportions. I don’t understand that very well.
When I am making espresso with 14g of coffee, there should be 28-30s time of extraction and that is equal to 28g of espressoo?
What about milk? How to calculate that? In some portafilters you can make 18g of coffee and in another only 7g. How to calculate how much milk do I need to for example cappuccino? Sorry for so many questions, but i didn’t find any video which explain that really well 😅
Another suggestion from me is that you can make a video on interpreting coffee bean descriptions such as 7 intensity or 5 strength :)
@@seba300PL Not quite…
You are looking to get a one to two or a one to three ratio. So so if you put 20 g in, you should get 40 to 60 g of liquid out. The timing just tells you if you need to grind finer or not.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Now i get. Thank you :)
Have you got a link to the cappuccino pot? Or how ml?

I've already ordered it.
I hope it will work.
Thank you for your help.
Hi Tom, so the valve has been delivered to me, I have replaced it and everything is working as it should.
So thank you very much for your help.
@@NeFeNeR Awesome! Happy to hear it!
If I may ask again, when I cleaned the delonghi, I disassembled it and now I'm not sure which side the spring in the head is supposed to be.
This is an illustration picture with the spring: cdn.hackaday.io/images/4414911545930736838.jpg
Was that spring supposed to be ball up or ball down?
Cheers!
@@TomsCoffeeCorner thanks for replying! I’ll take in your advice and experiment a bit to see a difference.
Thanks Tom, this was quite informative. I am about to order a Dedica ,I have a Bambino Plus elsewhere so I wil be interested in comparing the two of them. I am looking forward to some great morning cappucinos but not as well crafted as yours!
@@chryseass.5143 Hello. What was your experience with using both the bambino plus and the dedica? I’m having the dedica but thinking to swap to bambino plus. Which one did you stick with at the end? Which one did you prefer to use the most?
Thank you!
If you can get it on sale that would be even better. I hope that helps you to decide! Btw, I pair the Bambino Plus with the Breville Smart Grinder Pro.
For some reason, I'm having a hard time to get the milk to swirl with the stock wand. I end up with unmixed air that only sits on top.
Takes practice, keep watching, and trying. You need the right angle and tip depth.
14 grams total is that 2 shots or 1 shot? Thanks
That’s a double. 👍🏻
@@TomsCoffeeCorner i followed your advice for doubles i used the factory spoon 2 scoops tampered its good crema came out but when i tasted it it taste bitter i know i did something you think
I used gevalia espresso roast ??
Can we make 2 espresso shots at one go ?
I always do a double - 15 grams.
lol, I think the DR CONGO is for Democratic Republic of the Congo not doctor, great video btw
As for single shot and double shot can you give numbers again? Ratio seconds and grams please. I assume you did double shot cappuccino for your wife right?
I thought Cappuccino has the least milk, wouldn't this be a Latte?
👍❤️yo yo brother nice
Dedica is cheap machine thats true but it deppend on who use them. Like today i bought double espresso from famous coffee shop just to test how its taste again mine with they coffee machine with was daamn expensive and at end my coffee tasted way better even though i use Lavazzaa gusto pierro , on my dedica with they bad plastic portafilter with i ordered bottomless but still not arrived :( .but with case of i grinded it not that good but still i am little proud again what they gave me 😂.
Will try test pre grinded coffee from lavazza if its better than my bad grinding 😂
But still i am so terrible with making milk and cant get it right . I tryed get out that tube from it but then that robber fall off so i put it back but yeah usually i just drink espresso with small teaspoon of honey and sometimes with little cold milk just little
Grinding your own will always be better than buying pre-ground. But, glad to hear that you are getting good results!
Maybe just watch the milk spinning part a couple of times, and practice yourself. You basically just need the right angle.
А весы зачем? Как подставка? Я😂
Everything is ok, the coffee looks good, the taste is probably good...but what is the point of spending 14 grams of coffee for one coffee? I worked for many years as a waiter and made coffees, the weight of one coffee is 7 to 8 grams...it is the same on the original handle of the machine in question (dedica) and the coffee is not bad..Too much of everything extra to make one coffee (other handle, second filter, coffee syringe around...) sometimes it just needs to be quick and easy...;)
