The fact that everyone in the background is wearing green while Elphaba and Glinda are sporting black and pink. People can probably tell they’re tourists from a mile away.
I absolutely NEED like a 4-hour long making-of documentary of this movie when it comes out to Blu-Ray because lord knows they HAVE the footage. This press tour alone has been a treasure trove.
I saw the movie on 11/8 and it is breathtaking. Disney, beware: this movie is a shot across your bow. Universal has figured out how to make a great musical. It *must* be larger than life to be real and believable. These are *real* sets with *real* people singing LIVE on camera with no autotune, and wire work for the flying stunts. Even the Wizard's terrifying mechanical face was a giant machine built from scratch. There is a smattering of digital background mattes, which studios have been doing for a long time. And the singing ... my god. All I can say is: you are not prepared for how damn good this movie is. You might want to bring tissues.
I agree to this I just saw it yesterday for an IU early screening. I’m under embargo so I can’t really review it yet. But the practicality is what makes this movie so special. It’s old Hollywood (talented singers/actors, practicality, breezy tone) mixing with new Hollywood (expansion on the story, cgi) it’s a marvel that took me back to the first opening day of the musical. Even if I wasn’t there and was just a kid lol
I really hope it reviews well and can reach across the aisle to non musical fans. Great reviews would go a long way to getting newbies into this movie (I have no doubt fans of the musical will be well satisfied)
@@stevenwatson2871I'm not one to watch or be a fan of musicals often but because it's something famous and also because I'm a fan of Ariana Grande and I know Cynthia I had to take a look at it and honestly I feel like from then on a taste came to me that blooms within me which I didn't know I had, because I had never been interested before I had no way of knowing and now I know that I like musicals I wouldn't say a fan but I do. My emotion is even greater to see my favorite singer acting in a work like this alongside Cynthia and other actors I also know. My expectations for this film are high and I'm not scared I see how successful it is I don't even consider myself a big fan of this musical but I feel like I'm going to be moved by it even more so after taking a better look at the story and in the message of this musical apart from the songs that I like most like "Popular" "Defying Gravity" "The Wizard and I" and "For Good"
And just like the 1939 movie, they also included a long shot of Ozians at the hair salon, and a silly musical interlude proclaiming how great it is to be in Oz and to have a wizard!
OH NOOOOO!!! i cannot be in the theaters guys! that 15 second clip of them singing already made me cryyyyyyyy. wtf?! i need to do either super early screening or last full show. i cant have y'all see me crying
Jon Chu we see all the work you and the cast and crew have put into this and we are so grateful for you all! 5 more days until we watch the movie for the first of many times. Can't wait!
1:05 One Short Day snippet for those interested ;) I’m so excited, this is one of my favorite songs from the soundtrack and they’re gonna double it’s length in the movie :D
Regardless of how this movie performs, at least we can say they put their all into this project, and truly care about this amazing musical!! I’m so excited!! And I’m already dreading having the wait for part 2 🥹🥰💖💚
Here to be the race the first person to mention that at 1:10, Bill Brohn, the original orchestrator of Wicked, included a call back to the Wizard of Oz film. When they sing ‘so I’ll be back…’ the upper woodwinds are doing a sort of twirly repeated figure that is the same as the Poppies melody ‘You’re out of the woods’ etc. subtle but hey-all roads lead to the Emerald city, baby! 🥰🌟
Can anyone who has seen the movie comment on how One Short Day has been expanded without giving away any spoilers? I'm thinking the Wizomania section might be the reason, but I'm curious to find out how a three-minute song in the musical became a six-minute song in the movie 😅👀
The fact that everyone in the background is wearing green while Elphaba and Glinda are sporting black and pink. People can probably tell they’re tourists from a mile away.
That’s sort of what they did on Broadway. All of the emerald city ensemble is where if green while Elphaba and Glinda were Black and Yellow.
It’s the same in the west end basically too
Kind of the point
well yes its the emerald city!!
They didn't even TRY to assimilate into the culture!!!! #tourists
The fact that most of the set is real is absolutely amazing
YES! And the extras too! Broadway casts are usually so small, but this is actually looking like a WHOLE city
him walking around literally made my jaw drop .. not only is it real but it's HUGEE 😍
Big green flag

It’s kind of sad that we live in a time where real sets & practical effects are considered revolutionary, but i want to visit this Emerald City!
they are such theater kids having the time of their lives and I'm so here for it
FACTS.
That little hype-up dance they did was SO theatre kid
I wish those Emerald City postcards were available as actual merch!
We need more Em City merch. Maybe for Part 2? Hopefully 🤞
I was thinking the same thing!

The best decision Disney made for live action musicals…was leaving the broadway live version of Hamilton.

the riffs and runs... I'M DYING TO HEAR ALL OF THIS
ME TOO
The fact that they really built all of the set, and not using so much blue/green screen is amazing! That makes the movie more real!
This Emerald City takes 1939’s Emerald City to a whole another level!
And just like the 1939 movie, they also included a long shot of Ozians at the hair salon, and a silly musical interlude proclaiming how great it is to be in Oz and to have a wizard!
@ I always loved the Merry Old Land Of Oz scene!
Personally I’d prefer he Emerald City from1939.
@@theirongiant2182awesome
It's all grand and it's all green! 💚💚💚
I think I found the place where we belong
I wanna be in this hoi polloi
@ So I’ll be back for good someday
To make my life and make my way
@ But for today we’ll wander and enjoy
Jon pretending that the stolen post cards were noticeable just to gaslight an embarrassed confession out of them was GOLD
That's not what "gaslighting" means. He was ribbing them with good-natured teasing. See also: needling, joshing, taunting. And yes, that was funny!
@@theirongiant2182 Yes! Ribbing is exactly the term! He was teasing in a way that was funny but also instructional :)
I like that Ariana didn’t rat out Cynthia only herself, then Cynthia confessed also 😂
One Short Day is one of the underrated song's from the show. Can't wait to see this next Saturday 💚💗
chills, every single video, every single interview, every single MENTION of wicked i get chills
Notice the Balloons. They're fleshing out the Wizard worshipping so beautifully!
0:32 I swear…. John chu will be a meme for this 🤣🤣🤣

the ICONIC emerald city finally brought to life, im so excited
It brings tears to my eyes seeing how much care and loved was poured into this movie.
Can’t WAIT to be transported to Oz through this scene & movie! 🥰🌈💚
Great Director 💚💗
I've already saw the movie, its the best.
It better be with the two part split. I’m worried about the runtime mostly. But I haven’t seen a movie musical top tier since The Greatest Showman
@ this is only the first part and it’s 2hrs 40 minutes but I promise it happens so fast than it sounds
@@joymakeup Good because I rarely ever go to the bathroom while a movie is in progress. I want to be sure I stay put until the end credits roll.
'We Stole" 🤣
She's a team player, getting them both into trouble AND sharing the blame! 🤣
@@theirongiant2182 🎶”But then I guess we know there’s blame to share”🎶 💚😁🩷
The first little snippet of One Short Day is really exiting
I love how they're all having a great time making this movie!
0:47 idk know why but Elphaba throwing it back is just too funny to me😂😂😂😂😂😂
I like how it actually feels like a city in this movie like in other Oz project it’s always felt like more of a castle than a city 😂
I know what you mean from the 1939 version and the 2013 version
OH NOOOOO!!! i cannot be in the theaters guys! that 15 second clip of them singing already made me cryyyyyyyy. wtf?! i need to do either super early screening or last full show. i cant have y'all see me crying

The best movie in america
I got the wicked slippers last night!
we're going to get the whole movie before it even releases
lol and I’m here for all of it
Noo jajaja, this movie is 2 and 40 minutes long, and the trailers have only shown till now just 10 minutes of the whole movie.
Ariana's riff at the end @1:16 ... I was not ready.
Whoo hoo!!
rare footage of elphaba twerking
Did anyone take any postcards. If I was on set I would be taking things too.
Same
ari and cynthia did, they admitted to it XD

they probably pause between verses for dialogue, that can definitely stretch the song out!
Was that Elphaba twerking 😂
That wasn't Cynthia but a female ensemble cast member.
Yay
7 dayssss
Two takes? Did he say two takes? What?!!!!!
💖💖
I actually can't wait this movie will literally break box office records
